Music Monday: Happy Birthday To The Mouse

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday! Today, in 1981, Xerox gave the world a big bulky perephrial that changed everything we knew about computers. Today's the birthday of the Computer Mouse! In it's honor, Scott's selected some songs that that mouse might have heard on the radio on it's very first day.

Loverboy - Turn Me Loose

"Turn me loose on the world!" the first mouse might have said, knowing what was coming deep in its mousy soul. And it's true! Without the mouse, we might never have made it all the way to tablets. What use is G-U-I without the M-O-U-S-E?

More mouse malarkey coming after the jump.

Champaign - How 'Bout Us

What good is a mouse without a hand? A computer can take over the world without you, but a mouse? A mouse is like a loyal puppy. Helpless without its master. What's safer than an untouched mouse?

James Taylor & J.D. Southern - Her Town Too

I'm sure this song was on the radio at least once the day the mouse was announced. This smooth rock filled the void of the early 1980s. If MP3s existed, you can BET the first mouse would have clicked on THIS song!

Phil Collins - I Missed Again

We take mousing for granted today, but it was hard back when it started! How many people missed what they were clicking on? The answer: a ton.

Sheena Easton - Morning Train (Nine To Five)

Of course the mouse was priced so only the nine to five businesses could afford them... AT FIRST. But today, mice are cheap, and possibly even on their way out! How will we live in a world without mice? Let's just hope we never have to find out.

Happy Birthday, Computer Mouse! And let us just remind you: some images come from the corresponding Wikipedia page and are here under fair use. See you next week.
