Music Monday: Music Madness Drama Recap

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday! For those who don't know, each year we do a special March Bracket Event on our site. This year Scott's been forced honored with the keys to the event. We call it... MUSIC MADNESS!!

The rules are simple. We've created four brackets ('70s, '80s, '90s and '00s) and picked sixteen one-hit wonders for each one. Each Wednesday and Friday in March, you'll be able to vote via our Facebook page to help determine the winners! Additionally, you might want to check out the master list so or maybe take a look at other people's brackets. One of them might just win a trophy!

Today, though, Scott's gonna devote Music Monday to four upcoming battles that are connected to some in-house drama. That's right. We're gonna take you behind the scenes.

90s Bracket: Deep Blue Something - Breakfast At Tiffany's vs Chumbawumba - Tubthumping

This battle has a serious side: Scott didn't originally want Chumbawumba in this bracket. Scott's boss forced h im to include it. You don't want Scott's boss to win this one, do you? Remember: a vote for Deep Blue Something is a vote for freedom and justice.

It's not a Madness without some drama! Four more serious battles previewed after the jump.

00s Bracket: Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag vs Fountains Of Wayne - Stacy's Mom

There was an in-house debate if "Stacy's Mom" should be on this list. Some said it was an anthem of the 00s! Some said it just wasn't important enough. What do you, the voter, say? Will Team Pro-Stacy be vindicated, or torn down? You'll answer the question later this week!

00s Bracket: Daniel Powter - Bad Day vs Hoobastank - The Reason

Tragically there was an error in the brackets. These two single-hit titans were both listed as number 7 and also as number 10, depending on where you looked. But only one can move on! To the victor goes the highest number! IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS!

90s Bracket: k.d. lang - Constant Craving vs Duncan Sheik - Barely Breathing

These two songs share a similar title structure. These two artists have a had a long career (and are well known) without ever scoring another "hit." These two artists have different opinions on capitalization. Who will advance? Our office is divided! YOU MUST BE THE JUDGE.

NOT IN COMPETITION: Norman Greenbaum - Spirit In The Sky vs Doctor & The Medics - Spirit In The Sky

This last battle today is a Music Monday exclusive, just to keep everybody in practice. Pick your favorite Spirit In The Sky! Then head back to our blog on Wednesday and Friday to help finish off Round One with the '90s and '00s! NEXT WEEK: ROUND TWO BEGINS.

Let us just remind you: some images come from the corresponding Wikipedia page and are here under fair use. See you next week.
