Post O' Data: What We See When We See BoCs

by Primo Joe

Do you like data? Do you like crap? If so, you're gonna LOVE this post.

Now that the dust has settled, we're collecting all the information regarding our crap metrics (perhaps the most fun data point to bring up in a meeting with the boss). and we thought you all might be interested in seeing what we see. For example, here's the view from our Vestibule of Patience, a.k.a. the waiting room that keeps our servers from being demolished by the onslaught of BoC hungry traffic:

You don't have to be a professional analyst to tell where the big Crap sales happened, do you? And that's not all the data we've got!

We had about a thousand people rushing for each website-based Bag Of Crap. We also had 4000-5000 people trying for each App-based BoC. Shows you how the world's changing, huh? Phones are the new laptop.

Additionally, we had slightly over 3,000 first-time BoC winners (congrats to you all) who might enjoy visiting this thread where you can discuss the joy with other crapcipiants. And here's some data that makes me happy: 70 people who created their account in 2004 finally got their first Bag of Crap! It's like Rocky! They all waited so long for their shot and they were ready when it came! We also had about 160 brand new Wooters scoring crap as well. Not bad for their rookie year. And then there was this little baby:

That screenshot from Ball: A WootStudios Original Event was shared by user d3ic3. We didn't expect this URL to get a lot of attention, but Wooters will be Wooters, and the first sale from that URL happened just a half hour after the video went live! That's barely time to watch the actual video! We sold a grand total of 4 BoCs on that one, and we shut it down at 6PM, so there were some active in secret for most of the day. Keep that in mind for next time. You never know where we might hide some bonus Crap. And this includes product images...

On the non-crap front, we welcomed back several thousand old friends, welcomed several hundred new app users, and enjoyed watching people poke around all the pages on our WootPrimo parody site. Who woulda thought we'd sell out of those goofy UnDash buttons before the end of the day? Certainly not us. Now we wish we'd made more.

Finally, since you might care, here's the overall crap breakdown for the day in a nice little list.

  • Hidden Video Link - 4 Bags
  • Facebook Links- 275 Bags
  • Twitter Liinks - 500 Bags
  • Woot Mobile App - 921 Bags
  • I Want One App Game - 1100 Bags
  • Hard-To-Read Photo Gallery Links - 1264 Bags
  • Woot-Off - 2936 Bags

Thanks to you, dear readers, who made PrimoDay a creative success. If you didn't get one of the 7,000 Bags of Crap, stick around. Your chance may be coming soon. And who knows? Maybe next year we can annoy our big brother again!
