Music Monday: Cheery Christmas

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday! There's a lot of absolutely terrible Christmas music, isn't there? Today Scott's goal is to give you a respectable Christmas mix made of very good Christmas songs. Such as this one:

Duke Pearson - Sleigh Ride

This album on Blue Note is basically the greatest Christmas album ever. It's so good! If you like this, you'll like everything on it. Play it over and over. Santa will thank you for it.

It won't get better, but it'll be pretty good. More Christmas to come after the jump.

Bonnie Guitar - Christmas Time Is Here

Crisp vocals, a wobbly guitar, a background choir, and it's all in a key that David Lynch would adore. Put this on and watch all your guests say "Is this a new album? and "Who is this?" and "Is that REALLY her last name?"

Johnny & June Cash - I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day

Look, if you thought you were gonna get through this without seeing Johnny Cash you just don't know Music Monday as well as you thought. He's done a couple Christmas albums, so rest assured I will still have plenty to draw from in the years to come.

The Hollyridge Strings - I'll Be Home For Christmas

It's not truly Christmas until you're washed in the irony of classy orchestral LPs. Pass this one to the Daft Punk loving college kid in your life and watch them laugh their butts off. Or possibly they'll just swear at you. Who can tell? Either way, it's cool.

The Whispers - This Christmas

If you can't find something to love in this song, you don't deserve Christmas. GET OUT. TAKE YOUR STOCKING WITH YOU. No, no, sorry, I didn't mean that. Let's not fight at Christmas. C'mere. We'll hug it out just like Baby Jesus would want.
