The way I see it, if you don’t take care of your thumper, that squishy little piece of throb-meat only has so many lub-dubs in it before it seizes up to beat no more. So I’m strapping in to my new Pro-Form Precision Trainer, and I’m not unstrapping until I’ve got some data on this here ticker of mine.
Now, a lot of people use a heart rate monitor like this one when they exercise. It’s got a Speed and Distance function for like if you want to go walking or running or something. And it works with all manner of Polar-compatible exercise equipment. (I’m told that lots of your treadmills and stationary bikes and the like can give you heart rate information. They do that by picking up the signals from a chest strap like this one, so you could get your readout on the bike instead of the watch.) Also, there’s a “Target Calorie” function for people who are into the whole calorie-burning scene.
But to that whole set of propositions I say: WHOA, HOLD ON, LET’S NOT GET CARRIED AWAY. I’m just in phase one, the information-gathering phase of Operation Cardiophilia. Exercise is way, way, waaaaaayy down the line. Like maybe phase eleven. I’m not about to go trotting around town in Spandex before I know what condition my condition is in, see? I could overtax this li’l ticker of mine! I could blow something out!
No, for the time being I’m just wearing my Pro-Form monitor around, trying to get an idea of what elevates my heart rate on a daily basis. So far I’ve learned that I should probably stop watching NCIS (too stressful, apparently), and that I might have a crush on the girl who works the drive-through window at Arby’s.
