angry. Altec Lansing delivers a solid-sounding, convenient way to
amplify the contents of your iPod, and to charge it up during downtime.
Bass and treble alike sound full and rich, thanks to a Class D
amplifier, four full-range microdrivers, and something Altec unwisely
calls "revolutionary MaxxBass technology." It totes easily about town,
running for up to 24 hours on four AA batteries (not included). And it
will also work with other sound sources, like your laptop or your
off-brand MP3 player.
So why does it send us into fits of sputtering, veiny rage? Check the
product name, if your heart can stand it: the inMotion iMplus. It's so
cute we could pUke! Look, we understand everybody wants to be like the
cool kids. But this foolish business of adding lowercase letters to the
bEginning of evEry wOrd mUst sTop!
This irritating orthographical tic is to 2006 what the "xx" ending was
to 1986 (see above), or the "e" prefix was to 1996. Hey Altec, this
lowercase pimping doesn't make you look cool or hip or whatever; it
makes you look pathetically square for draping an otherwise fine
product in the syllabic equivalent of a Members Only jacket.
Now, instead of enjoying the crisp, full sound and portable convenience
of the inMotion iMplus system, we're piqued, chagrined, infuriated,
vexed. Please, people: buy these damn things and get them out of our
sight before we go iNto cOnniptions.
