I have purchased one to use in my office to pick up stations without having to buy another big antenna for that part of my condo but I will not know how many channels I will pick up. So I am paying for this device to experiment because no one can tell you for sure.

Depending on your area, you may not get clear QAM signals anyway. In the Seattle area, Comcast is dumping analogs between 30-70 and replacing with digital. They're in the clear for now, but as expected they got their waiver to start encrypting, so it won't be long.

Their basic tier channels (2-29) are still analog, so this would still work in those cases (locals and a few cable channels like Discovery).

For $20, it seems like a good deal. If you're rooting around for something to replace a cable box, odds are you'll need something with a cable-card slot anyway (or go Tivo, and never look back).

Forgive me if this has been asked. Can this be used to record from a 8mm analog video recorder that supports composite video out?

A watch battery. Probably a lithium CR2025 or CR2032. I guess that because those are the types I've seen in various small electronics. The same type the remote door locker for a car takes. Replacements can be purchased at any CVS or Radioshack.

Right but I didn't want to be condescending to the inquirer. This is why I opted to simply answer the question and say, "it does need the black coaxial cable attached".

Third. This can be used on the Xbox 360!!!, but indirectly. To do this you must have a computer with media center. After you plug it in to your PC, follow the directions on your Xbox screen by clicking on Media Center Extender. As soon as setup is done, you now have HDTV on the 360.

...beg to differ. If you look at the picture (click on the picture on the main page) you'll see the tuner disconnected from the coax cable. You have options - this will take a signal from coax (antenna, cable, VCR, etc.) OR you can use the RCA inputs - red/white for audio and either the yellow for composite video or the black, S-video inputs.

If you have Vista/Win7 Home Premium, or higher you should be able to use Windows Media Center. You can use an MCE IR Receiver with a number of programmable universal remotes (not sure about what's included though). There are extensions to add Boxee/Hulu Desktop to the MCE menus. I've had the best luck with Logitech remotes.
