So we were sitting here trying to come up with some way to blame the delay in announcing the results on the early onset of Daylight Savings Time when we realized, hey, we could just as easily go ahead and announce the results. So here are our choices for the best entries in our challenge to Create a mascot for a Woot sports team:

First prize - $100
shan24 - The Woot-Off Phanatic

Hit me with your quantity-remaining stick!

Second prize - $50
KMA2 - Thumb Down

Weird how this arena appears to be lit from below, but we like it anyway.

Third prize - $20
BionicBeefpile - First Sucker

So this is what he looks like...

Honorable Mention

plinth - Bandalero Carrots
It took 30 years, but the Frito Bandito finally found a new job.

intaglio - Doomed to Flailure
This is one blow-up doll we can show in polite company.

z144man - Mr. Carrot & Mrs. Broccoli
We hope Mr. Broccoli doesn't look at these forums.

gwp - Uh, I Don't Know, Let's Call Him "Giant Ken Jennings Head Man"
As if you could actually make a cat run in a straight line, or do anything else you wanted it to.

Champions' Championship Champion
tgentry - Mascot of the Rad Dunk

We weren't that thrilled that this one was based on a winning entry from our last "mascot" contest, but our past winners had no such qualms.

Sometimes, even when we feel like somebody is making a naked grab for the Monkey Prize, their work is so overwhelmingly awful, so laughably misguided, so redolent of Monkey musk that we simply must "honor" it. So congratulations, froznwrage - your mysteriously-titled "Walrus the Manatee" did the job you hired him to do:

That's the game, people. If you created a money-winning entry, please email your Paypal info to jtoon@woot.com. Monkey Prize winner, send your mailing address to the same. Honorable Mentioneers may use coupon code HONMEN-FS for free shipping on a future order. Until next time, remember: somewhere inside that oversized fuzzy mascot costume, there's a real human being with hopes and desires and emotions. So be careful if they want to hug your kids.

Congrats Shan, KMA and Beef! Well done.

Much honor also to Plinth (so much for your escaping notice...), Intaglio and z144man.

Now that tgentry has Bryce'd the sushi guy, can a full-length feature aninmation be far behind?

Wrage ... naked monkey grabbing?? For shame!

Woohoo! Another free shipping! (Thanks Jason)

Good luck next week!

I'd rather it never showed up again. I know everyone thinks its funny, but to me it screams racism. Pointing out that its racist doesn't stop its being racist.
...and I realize not one of you guys was thinking racist thoughts when you made the image, or remade it. Stereotypes, like this one, sneak up on you. As many images as I've posted, heh, I probably have promoted some stereotype or another more than once. I wish I hadn't. I wish you guys hadn't posted this one.

I can't see the results. I can only assume from the comments that I took a shot from Toon...

With all the variations on Batman peeing, Brave Woman, Rocket Cleats, etc. etc. I didn't think anyone would care. Since there are so many mascots in sports that people take offense to, and it can be such a hot topic issue, KMA2's sushi guy was the perfect Woot related 'thing' to use to cover that. And frankly if someone has qualms about the stereotypical nature of the character, they should have mentioned it during the Mascot of the Red Death contest. Seems back then most everyone loved it:

velly funny contest.

It's not very co0l that when KMA2 won for that character you went so far as to play along with the stereotype, but when I post something on it, it screams racism. Thanks a bunch.

Glad you mentioned this, Joe. I feel guilty that I missed the implication of that image, I am usually more aware of things.

I'm sorry about that. I shouldn't have done it then. I'm quite conflicted about this, frankly. You are one of the choppers I aspire to be as good as, and highly respect, and I nearly didn't post that comment because it was your image. I read somewhere that we need to confront racism wherever we see it, especially when it makes us uncomfortable. I'm grateful that you posted that comment- it shows that even when we believe we are not racist, stereotypes like this one lurk inside us all. Maybe I should have sent you a PM about it- but then the whole thing stays hidden, where it shouldn't. So, I'm sorry, and uncomfortable about it, and I hoppe we are each a little more thoughtful about how this stuff sneaks up on us.

Is the fish racist against Japanese or Chinese?
Sushi would be Japanese, but the fish looks more Chinese to me.
I also don't see how a sushi fish is racist.
Not trying to start trouble, but I really don't understand what is going on.*
In any case It was good looking and well rendered.

*I know that will be a big surprise

I was glad to see a few non-rebranded mascots win this week, I enjoyed the hand drawn ones.

It's sad to see stereotypes promoted in any form. I shook my head the first time I saw that entry and it won, it's even sadder the second time. Racism is wrong even if it wrapped in a rendered bow.

If someone took offense, I apologize. It was my intent to parody stereotyped mascots, but clearly I failed at getting that across. I'm not going to comment on this further. I should have followed my original impulse and ripped off Ernie Erythrocyte instead.

There is a distinct different between stereotypes and racism. Stereotypes are not inherently bad, where as racism is. Stereotypes are just caricatures of a group, distorted to emphasize a detail. They don't necessarily concern race either. They exist for every single group you can imagine because it is a tool used to group items so that we can recall them more easily. To say that each race doesn't look different or act differently from one another is silly, of course they do. It's a result of their geographic location and culture. It's when an individual says one group is better than another that stereotypes becomes a problem. The stereotypes then become a dangerous tool for propaganda and hate.

Pretending stereotypes aren't funny isn't the way to eradicate racism. Instead, laugh at our differences and still accept that each one of us is both a human and an equal.

A refreshingly mature apology. I am sure there was no harm intended by TG, and I for one feel this comment proves it. It is clear that we all agree to keep this forum free from any possible offensive material in the future. I agree that this forum is no place for stereotypes, however there is no need to beat this into the ground, I believe we have all learned our lesson. The mods may want to note as well, that this type of material should probably not be winning awards in the future, regardless of intent or talent.

BTW: z144man, is that Bob Saget in your sig? lol

He appropriated it from somewhere else and made it his own. So did KMA2, or did you think he hand crafted all of those parts? And I'm sure Intaglio stitched up that crazy waving guy. And gwp probably hand crafted that ken jennings head. Shan did enough to the original to make it unique. I just want to say WTG on having to create an alias to post that.

I better call it a day for woot. It's not good for my health. Speaking of which, be sure to go over to the dodgeball forum and get an entry in!

I grew my carrot and Braille on Cookiesli then modeled costumes after them. then photographed them in a basketball stadium I built. but it looked too good and wasn't fair to the other choppers, so I photoshoped it to to look really fake.

I cloned Jason, then genetically modified him into chibi form. After that I put him in a hyperbolic time chamber so he would grow up in time for the contest. However, after all of this work I realized that chibi Jason was so cute there was no way anyone could throw darts at him and chucked him into the furnace.

Oh you all are making me laugh. When I saw that post above I thought "uh-oh here we go" but thanks for the responses. I have this favorite site I like to use for source images and when I saw this theme I immediately thought about going there for inspiration. I have used the same site for sources but since I haven't been a money winner since about 40 or 50 contests ago I can't say it's helped much until now.
