Chinese New Year starts this Thursday. This year we welcome the year of the rat! A lucky year. A lucky year number. A lucky element. Everything about this year is lucky in Chinese culture. In order to catch that luck, you must clean out the bad luck, and you must be finished before New Years begins.
Oh my what the heck is that? When did you get that and why did you keep it so long?
Out with the bad luck and a clean house to catch the good. That is what the Chinese believe. Americans call it spring cleaning (although I would hardly call it spring right now). Whatever you call it, it's that time of year where you move the furniture, chase the dust bunnies from their hiding places, throw out those could be million dollar collectibles, and generally make room for more stuff in the house. What we want to know is What did you find while cleaning out that long forgotten space in your house? Are you hiding a dirty secret? What about your neighbor? Has someone provided a spawning place for a new exotic species? Are their great secrets that are embarrassing lurking in the trash. As the child of a Mom who cleaned by relocating everything to the trash, feel free to dumpster dive, show us your own hidden horrors, or divulge those of your neighbors, could be neighbors, minor (or major celebrities), dead people, whatever!
Lets clean out the bad luck so we have lots of room for the good. Remember, don't sweep out the good luck!
Now for the blah blah blah. . . . Contest runs from now through Thursday. It ends at midnight woot standard time. Voting will then commence and run all day Friday. Then when the baby (and my lovely wife) permit it I will tally the votes, slap together the famous traveling dodgeball trophy and pass off these duties to the next lucky winner. Please keep your entries PG13, no wider than 500 pixels or so, and if you feel like it, post your sources so we can all learn from your mad skilz.
