from Wikipedia:

In a change reflective of the nationwide presence of the ECHL, the East Coast Hockey League changed its name to simply ECHL on May 19, 2003.

And then there is the "Where's Waldo" jerseys of the Montreal Canadiens this past weekend.

What's worse is that Las Vegas isn't the most western team of the ECHL. I'm sure the Anchorage, AK, team takes that honor.

And just changing your name to the acronym doesn't change the fact that acronym still stands for East Coast unless you change the name backing the acronym up. Extreme Cup Hockey League would have worked well in that case and possibly brought in the loser sk8ter types. Just because Yum Brands changed it to be officially just KFC doesn't change the fact KFC stands for Kentucky Fried Chicken.

I love the ECHL. Sub-minor league hockey rocks. The further away you get from the big leagues, the players realize they suck and just spend more time fighting instead.

sure it does. ECHL and KFC aren't acronyms any more, they're new names unto themselves. they don't stand for anything else.

That's just ludicrous! If I say "I am no longer a person; I am now a carrot", it doesn't change the reality that I am a person.

Besides, if you try to say KFC as a word, your head might explode...

Wasn't there a movie like that, but with cars? I think it was called death race or something.

Worst movie ever. Maybe the real life hockey version would be better.
