Price is almost half what I've seen it elsewhere, but I've heard a lot of people say the sound quality isn't very good (arm/needle?).

AWESOME.

I've wanted a USB Turntable for a while.

Portable makes it easy for my dorm. Which is particularly good, because there's a really good record store down the street.

$50 is a nice price too.

By the way, when did Paypal become a payment option????? Great for wootoofing, I should think..

I wonder how good the sound would be in the conversion? I mean CDs are so far superior to vinyl that I have to wonder how, well, old school, it would sound.

Does anyone know?

The Amazon reviews are pretty good, 4 stars. Also $100 over there too. I may get this for my father for his birthday, he has a bunch of vinyls.

Or people who want an easy way to backup/convert/distribute the music on their records.

I am in the market for a new portable turntable... have a semi-non working Audio Technica Mister Disc AT-770 and have seen these other portable ones, along with a similar Numark and Sony model.

These are nice for going to flea markets and checking out the vinyls before purchasing...

soliver wrote:I wonder what kind of stylus this thing has and how hard it would be to update/replace...

The Stylus is an ONKYO 25L-744R. They retail for about $89 just for the stylus. That makes this deal worth at least $129 more than the list Woot! is giving. Why would you even consider upgrading? The stylus alone is worth almost 3 times the selling price. Buy it for the stylus just to put on another table...

That said, no one will read past this:

It's a Ronco $1.18 stylus that will pick up dust and accentuate it like a mo'fo.

It literally makes this unit sound like a symphony of chalkboard scratchers...watch it sell....no one read this far.

Sales of vinyl are increasing, even in this economy, even as CD sales plunge to the cold hard cracked sidewalk pavement. Many of the Newbury Comics stores in the Northeast put their vinyl sections nearest the door because it's what most of their customers are headed toward anyway.

It's either this or it's not this. You can't own something "like these" and make a valid comment. I own a Thorens, and it's something "like these" in that it's a turntable, but it's made by a completely different company.

Details please! What model did you own? Why didn't you like it?

The quality is what I'm curious about. I've got a few old recordings I wouldn't mind converting to mp3, but, I don't want a half'ed job with it. I'll sleep on it.

Some recordings just sound better on a record. It adds authenticity...

I was thinking of getting it for my dad but that whole computer thing will immediately frighten him. So I'll pass on this one.
