So, if it releases the Chlorine from the salt, where does the Sodium go?

Sellout has a $200 pool cleaner... Sure, these would be in time for Memorial Day, but seriously, woot, what gives?!

Ehh... here's the manufacturer's website. It's $899 directly from them. Doesn't say if it comes with pepper, just salt.

apparently the woot delays are being caused by the page writers extreme long-windedness and sesquipedalian verbiage combined with run-on sentences and lack of full comprehension of the inimitable greatness that was Star Trek® ;-)

So, this thing requires a pool?

This is actually a pretty cool deal! They have one (maybe similar) on their site for $899 (not including S&H). http://www.circupool.com/order.php

If an 18'x40' pool that is 8' deep can use this, so can your pool...maybe.

But realistically speaking...come on woot, who needs?

So this thing. . . it converts your regular pool water into salt water? Can someone explain to me why you would want to do that?

Okay, no use to me because I don't have a pool, but have you ever swam in a saltwater pool? Nice!

This salt system actually works pretty good. I used to swim in the old style chlorine stench pools regularly until recently the pool I use switched over to this system. No more chlorine smell and much easier on eyes, hair, skin, and even clothes.

ok... so there's...343,423,668,428,484,681,262 gallons of water in the ocean..... divide that by 45,000 .... how many of these do we need to buy to unsalt the oceans?

Maybe not the worst Woot ever, but possibly the most annoying, given the delay. No offense to Circupool...

So the whole purpose of this is you swim in salt and chlorine made from your salt instead of just chlorine you dumped in on your own...

I don't really get it. Anyone have one of these, are they nice? Do you notice a difference in your pool or how easy it is to maintain?

Ah, you're at least a page behind on that one.

Friend of mine has a backyard pool with salt water. My four-year-old kid won't even get in a regular old chlorine pool now because he says that they're disgusting. Salt's definitely the way to go. If, of course, you happen to have a pool in your backyard.

According to the answer at WikiAnswers, it will pay for itself after a bit more than 4 pool seasons.

You don't find it leaves your skin dry? I always feel grosser and need more lotion after swimming in the ocean than I do after swimming in a pool - for some reason I envision this like swimming in the ocean although I'm sure you don't put quite that much salt in.

It says it uses Chlorine gas: Isn't that stuff pretty dangerous? I thought you could die if you breathed it- does it dissipate through the water and never reach the surface or something?

This would be nice- to not have to worry about chlorination levels: I have a hot tub, and if you're lazy like me, it's a pain in the butt to keep adding chlorine. But there's the problem; it's a hot tub, not a pool, so this is useless for me

Well if anyone actually buys one of these, here is some info on setting up and maintaining.

One of the first "big-ticket" items I've considered on Woot (if I didn't already have one of these). it's a shame everyone's knocking this, looks like a great price on a product that could be VERY good (assuming the brand is okay; I've seen these types of systems in action, they're great).

And Shannon Toohey: No, The water always ends up feeling like just like "hard" tapwater; it's actually more moistening than anything. Remember, it's MUCH less salt in the water than the ocean, and most of the salt stays in the converter anyway.

The big draw of one of these is:
1) Cheaper; salt costs less than chlorine. We go to Costco and buy a big bag, and that lasts a good long while.
2) Less abrasive on eyes/skin/etc
3) No more stupid cakes or burning jugs of chlorine

Control is configured for 220 volt operation matching 95% of residential pools, but can be converted to 110 volt by a qualified individual

I don't know many pool motors that run on 220v.

By then you realize what a pain in the ass the pool is and have taken it down or filled it in with a tennis court.

Certainly Unique.

I would say this item is very "woot." There's a very peculiar kind of person who waits until 12am every day to find out what gets put on this website next! I happen to one of those people and sometimes I find something I want and need! Other times I do not. But every time, it's something rather unique and most of the time its a deal.

Now I have no idea whether this time the item is a deal or not, and neither do I have any need for this device. But I DO have to say I'm yet again struck by the strange charm and funky apeal of the WOOT website and culture... a culture I am proud to be a part of!

Now having said that... I DO think Woot would do well to consider their target audience. I mean, really... how many sleep-deprived college students have an in-ground pool in their backyards? How many have a back-yard??? And how many folks who are so concerned with getting deals (as we lovers of the woot-off tend to be) are really going to have personal pools!?!? Probably not many.

As for me, I am content to have fulfilled my role as a loving Wooter and seen the great Woot Drought of cinco de mayo through. I along with I imagine the great majority of you will diligently wait with white fingers until the next Woot item, the next Woot off and the next Ridiculous Batch of Cookies!

So if this is the RJ45* model, doesn't that kinda make you wonder if there's a wifi one available?

You are now free to groan around the cabin.

*(You know, the connector type used by 10baseT and the related family of ethernet.)

And to think...someone spent a lot of time writing their catchy blurb about this wonderful product. LOL.

But kudos to sellout.woot.com for atleast putting a pool item that could or would be used by the masses (well the masses that have a pool)

If I put some Bacon in the Saltinator, would i soon be able to produce my own Bacon Salt?
