Ive got this unit (vupoint) 12/08.. paid 80 bucks at b b beyond w 20% discount...
scan (picture of a picture) quality is average or just above average.
It says on the box that i got 32bit vista and xp..not sure if they have updated since 12/08 for 64bit vista or win 7. I bought it for my vista 64bit but hooked it up to my xp pro machine and was going to return it bc it wasnt 64bit compat (didnt attempt to hook it up even) but a friends mom offered to buy it for what I paid, after I scanned the stuff i wanted to with XP ;), so I sold it to her. The software is basic but does allow for you to change some quality settings.
3 average picture size slides to place your pictures in and press the button and scan them. I found these pretty easy to use and vs a flatbed scanner this is way quicker. prob do twice as many in the same time. I also took smaller pictures and "cornered" them in the bigger slides and scanned and cropped it with my own software, but be careful as someone mentioned your pictures can fall inside the unit if they are smaller than the inside of the slide...so just pay attention with your smaller pics and it will be ok.
Build quality is just below average and would easily break if dropped etc.. so make sure to keep the box and stuff for storing it between scanning. This thing has no weight to it.
If you really want great quality and dont care about scanning them slower with a flatbed then thats the way to go (dont forget you can also send them off to be scanned for a price but they can get lost in the mail or whatever). If you or your parents (decent gift idea bc its so easy) want a quick easy way to do it this is ok at this price. It wasnt really worth the 80 bucks i paid and I would not have kept it for that price. But for half that, it might be a great gift idea for a parent who isnt as scanner and computer stuff savvy who has time to just scan a million pics at average quality with the touch of a button.
hope this helps someone
