This would actually be interesting to me, but for one flaw: what do the straps look like? Is it the over the shoulder kind, like backbacks, or around the waist like a fannypack, or over the chest like a messenger bag?

Not a fanny pack. Its clearly labeled a Lumbar Pack. There is a difference apparently in spelling, and apparently in size.
