Back in the day, you used to impress the girl or boy of your desire by gathering just the right set of songs, painstakingly fast-forwarding to the exact spot, and dubbing them all onto a blank tape. You'd think of a clever name, even pick out a perfect photo for a "cover," and present your hard work as casually as you could, hoping to get that glimmer of appreciation mixed with attraction.
These days, you'd just get laughed at. Potential mates have much higher expectations, and if you're going to impress them, you'll need to do what the kids call a mash-up. Of course, if you're really looking to impress, you know it's not enough to expertly blend two otherwise incompatible songs into a beautiful, unexpectedly coherent medley; you'll also need to create an album cover blending the two album covers. And that's where we come in:
Create a new album cover combining aspects of two or more otherwise widely different album covers.
No need to actually make the musical mashup, though I suppose if you're really bored and talented, you can. We'll solely be judging the quality and cleverness of the album cover blend.
Because we're a bit late in getting this up, you get another day to do your best. Post your entry here by by 11:59 PM CDT on Monday, August 28, 2006. Prizes are $20/$50/$100 for 3rd/2nd/1st. The rules and criteria for winning: our panel of geniuses can and will make stuff up as it goes along. Use Photoshop, pen and ink, collage, MSPaint, Spirograph, iron-on transfers, whatever, but it’ll only be judged if it’s visible in our forums as a jpg, gif, or png. Try to keep your maximum width to 450px. If you need a place to host your pictures, try www.imageshack.ws or www.photobucket.com. We have no connection to either, but they seem free and easy to use. And if you want us to be sure your entry was indeed your work, post links to your source images. The more sure we are that you did your own work, the more likely we are to consider it for a prize.
Past money winners: If you'd like to nominate any entries from this week's contest, email your selections (with links to the individual post) to Jason at email@example.com by noon CDT on Tuesday.
