...Extra Useful Link... which is also known as Wireless Networking products for under $40... via shopzilla... but the woot is solid too... the comparison shopping sites give it a run for its money... but woot still wins... as usual.

I do a daily woot blog where I talk about the woot, link to CSEs, find reviews, etc. A few people have told me it's useful. Google "useful linkage" and there it is.

What revision is this one? There are 3 versions of it... The newer 2 are more compatible with routers OTHER than only Linksys ones. If it's the original release, good luck getting it to connect for a firmware upgrade for compatability! The newer models have a ethernet connector in the front for those "easy" upgrades.

Lacking WPA makes this a pretty hard sell.

I've seen these for sale at my job for about 69.99. I have no idea how well they work, and I'd have to imagine it'd make port routing a biatch if you plan to use say, bittorrent over on the computer behind this thing. Then again, I know about as much as a potato does in terms of networking.

It does indeed have WPA. There are two settings for security for this thing. WEP, and WPA (Pre-Shared Key)

    It's 802.11b/g. It works with any 802.11b/g.

The drawback is that it is only WEP enabled and not WPA enabled.

Great price but I already have one. Linksys made two different version of this. Revision A is harder to configure then the Revision B setup. Revision B or it might be C has an ethernet plug to help you connect to your PC to configure.

I unfortunately had a Revision A and I had to call Linksys to help configure the Expander.

Anyone know how well these work? I usually have to balance my laptop half off the desk in my room to get any internet in my room, would love to make it accessible all around house, sounds like a great woot!

Excellent deal, bought one from compusa for 79 on sale, works with any wireless, I use d-link

Please listen to me. I am an IT professional and have been setting up wireless networks for businesses for the last 3 years. This thing, without a doubt, is the WORST range expander ever. Extremely difficult to setup, rarely works, and is impossible to add onto a network that is already existing. do yourself a favor and buy BUFFALO brand wireless products. They are x812839 easier to setup and are much more reliable. I have personally setup this linksys range expander 3 times, and each time I spent 4-8 hours working with it, and I only got it to work sucessfully one of the three times. I returned the other two and go buffalo instead. these things are absolutely the WORST wireless product ever made.

What, no WPA/WPA2?! Why do so many 802.11g-compatible devices seem to neglect anything approaching real security? WEP's been horribly broken since well-before 'g' came out, and I thought that at least WPA support was required for anything to claim 'g' compliance.

Can anyone who has one of these verify whether the specs just neglect to mention it, if there's a firmware update to enable it, or if folks are just SOL? I seem to get mixed info when I search, though if Geeks.com is to be believed, this could be the v1 of the range extender that, in typical Linksys fashion, has the same model number as the current version that DOES appear to have some WPA support...

Works excellent I bought one for the same reason, easy to set up too

Sweet! I'm in! Now I can get to the basement!

Is there anyway to get woot to ship something to you faster? I want to get this for my mom for her birthday (she's been wanting one), BUT it's in 8 days, and the only other thing I ordered from woot took FOREVER to get here.

I don't know what version this is (Linksys' site has v1-v3), but under v3, which I checked, the data sheet shows it supports WEP or WPA Personal, so maybe the one Woot ships out has an old firmware, but it can be upgraded to support WPA via a newer firmware.

    Two Questions:
Does it work with any computer AND
Say i have a laptop and i dont pay for internet. But if i step outside the door of my house i get a beautiful signal from the neighbor a couple houses away.... would this...if i really did steal internet... help me get signal inside my house? basically, can i use this on with my laptop to get a signal in more places?

Own one of these exact items. It doesn't work. Well I should say it works when it is on and running. I had to constantly reboot the thing. Horrible. Plus, couldn't tell if it actually worked unless you pinged the ip.

As far as setup, EASY. Just plug it in. Naturally, you must make sure you have it set to the right IP, but linksys has done a good job of making sure it isn't a common IP like 192.168.1.1 or 1.50 or 1.100, etc. I forget the IP, I think it is .142. Anyway, I do NOT recommend this thing.

Oh yeah, if you call Linksys for help, you will be lucky if you get a tech that knows how this thing works. One technician asked me if it was plugged into the router? WRONG. NEXT.

User guide, datasheet, firmware and install guide is here

    Good luck.

You werent around for the HP cameras yesterday?! They posted as new but they were refurb (rox0rz!). There were no issues with returning money though, so thats good at least!

Doesn't play nice with DD-WRT firmware'd routers, no matter how well you configure them. Probably won't work with an OpenWRT router either.

I freely admit that I may be wrong. I posted based on what the woot description said.

Once you can get it configured, it works great. I spent 2 days getting mine set-up (and it took about 2 hours with Linksys on the phone). I did have a Revision A which is the worst to configure. The later revisions are a heck of a lot better.

read the article however they are incorrect, I have this exact model, use wep encryption, have no wireless security problems. Took five minutes or less to set up as long as you hardwire it in too set it up before going wireless

A friend of mine has this, and I must say, I cannot tell if it actually does its job. Get a better antenna if you really need it.
