Yes....that post really bummed me AFTER I had made my purchase. So glad it was inaccurate. :-)

mine arrived on Friday Dec 16th. I unboxed it and turned it on. There was enough charge to connect to my wifi, which it found with no problem, i only needed to enter my password. I tested Netflix, Hulu+, the browser etc. The charge got very low so I plugged it in. It has charged without a problem. My primary uses will be light browsing, email, Netflix, Hulu, Facebook etc. oh and of course Angry Birds for my young one. All is working better than I anticipated, best deal ever. Love this tablet. Love the price!

Heads up... over the weekend, I noticed the new Adobe apps were available on the market. The Proto app is one of the Main reasons I purchased a Tablet, and it will not work with the Vizio tablet for a few reasons. The screen resolution is too small and it needs to have Android 3.1. I may be inclined to sell mine for anyone that missed out. Or would swap it for cash for an Asus Transformer.

Got mine last night, unboxed it, plugged it in and it has a "stuck pixel". Ill be contacting tomorrow Vizio to see if I can get the issue resolved.

Opened it up plugged it in and it worked great. Seem pretty solid. However the battery ran completely dead while it was plugged in. Appears that the micro-usb port is detached from the motherboard. I managed to get it to charge by applying pressure to the bottom of the plug. I called Vizio and they are going to cross ship a new tablet. Great Customer service Vizio!

It takes two, maybe three minutes to download the update, showing the status the whole time. Why not turn off your router during that time (to abort the download), or maybe get on your bike and ride out of range of your network?

I was able to skip the update maybe ten times before finally deciding to go for it. Just sayin'.

Got mine on Saturday, seems to be working pretty well so far. I have tried both the stock Vizio launcher and GO Launcher. Anyone else having some lag issues? Seems to be using almost all the RAM, always less than 40 MB available. Is this normal?

I fully admit I should have done that -- but it didn't occur to me that they would break the tablet with a required update.

You have to root your device (the link to XDA forums is here ). Then you have to install Titanium Backup Pro, and then you can feeze the Vizio update service.

Very worth while in my opinion.

I love this device mostly because it's just my phone on a bigger screen, and I already loved my phone!

I may start tinkering a bit and try to install some other ROMs, but I'm very satisfied at the moment.

purchased a tablet package from them (Vizio 8") which is my son's main Christmas gift... it arrived without the charger or USB cable... I wrote to them asking them to make it right. They said, sorry, we don't have any spare pieces, you can mail it back... NO other option... well, I WANT the thing, but I would like it to have come with the parts it was advertised with... I emailed them and asked if they would offer a partial discount so I can go buy the parts that were missing.. this is what they said:

"While I apologize, unfortunately we are not able to do so because the item was already offered at a deeply discounted price.
Riley"

Well, it's hardly a freaking good deal if I have to buy some of the parts it was supposed to come with.

I'm pretty disgusted and infuriated with Woot and of course... no phone number. Nice.

Mine came looking brand new. (I suspect it is.) The only sign of refurb being a sticker placed over the warranty area of the manual.
This thing works great. Found wifi right away, updated to 1.5 (vizio's upgrade seemed to take awhile to download).
So far the wife loves it, it was her Christmas present and she couldn't be happier.
I have a samsung 7" tablet and I'm somewhat jealous.

Woots so far
  • 3 B*O*C's
  • 2 Leak Frogs
  • 3 Screaming monkeys v2 (green)
  • bunch of other stuff that I just bought while waiting for these listed items

Sorry to hear of your trouble but service@woot.com is the best line of fixing issues such as these - phone service isn't one of those things we offer, however.

To answer your question, yes it has GPS when not on WiFi, though I haven't used it yet. If your phone allows WiFi tethering than there should not be a problem, although if it's a bluetooth only tether, I am unsure.

do i need to install antivirus or malware software?

I would say this is only necessary if you plan on downloading and installing all sorts of apps from all sorts of locations (other than the Android market). Although it probably couldn't do any harm having it installed anyways. I would not recommend having it running all the time since this machine doesn't have a lot of memory anyways, and any additional processes may put a strain on performance.

Got the tablet, it was in a sealed white Visio box. Unfortunately that's about the only "new" thing about it.

Significant scratches on the back and the case was coming apart near the bottom left speaker - had to force it to snap back into place. I haven't removed the protective film as its a gift for my wife. Here's hoping she doesn't uncover a major scratch when pulling that off. *sigh*

Is this expected for a woot refurb? (this is my first refurb!)

Otherwise...

Good news - performance isn't as bad as I expected before running the update

Bad news - Skype video is a disaster before the update. I have to hold the tablet upside-down for the other user to see my upright, and my video feed on the Visio is all screwed up (4 different faces, all of them green, very odd)

Here's hoping that the update fixes Skype, otherwise I'll be VERY disappointed!

You guys would NEVER have time to do anything if you offered phone support. Seriuosly, all it would do is ring with angry people, who will still be angry f they dont get to call, and will stillbe angry if they DO get to call and don't hear what they want to hear. And some of them will STILL be angry even when they hear what they want to hear becuase they had to waste their time on hold on the phone lines that YOU provide for them, just so they could be rude to someone who will only be doing what they would have been able to do via email in five minutes themselves ANYWAY.

Phone support is a losing proposition for any major entity. Its expected, but its EXPENSIVE and a giant PITA.

Mine arrived looking brand new and ran awesome all weekend. This morning when I was ignoring it to do a little work, it went to sleep. Apparently forever. Is there a reset button or something?

Such a shame, this thing is exactly what I wanted the pocket edge to be.

Easy as Cake. Factory Reset. And it kept the 1.5 update. bangarang!

If anyone wants to perform the update BEFORE gifting, you can do so, then reset it back to factory restore status where the user is promtped to enter theit info and experience the tutorial on how to use the device.

Apparently it stops rooting, as it doesnt even change the revision number on the system settings. If you dont intend to root your device, I wouldn't worry about it.

Got mine today. While it is for my mom, I opened it to make sure it works and such before she gets it. Does anyone know if the "charging" icon has any sort of animation to show it is charging? It seems to have been charging for about 45 mins with no change to the battery image.

EDIT:
NEVER MIND! It has changed to "yellow" from "red" so I suppose it is charging

[quote postid="4767213" user="mick66"]Got mine a couple of hours ago. It seemed DOA, but after it was plugged in for a good 20 minutes it came on and the setup started. The battery icon showed that it was drained at the time. Slowly but surely, it's charging. Did I miss something in the setup? my clock is off by 2 hours. How can I get that corrected?[/quo

Go into the settings and choose time/date. Mine came setup for PT.

Mine came dead also. After 20 minutes of being plugged in and a big empty battery with a red blinking line across the bottom on the screen, it came on by itself as asked to be setup. after another 30 minutes I had one yellow bar on the battery icon at the top right hand corner of the screen. I turned it off and plugged it in to charge and had no icon at all, left it for 3.5 hours, turned it back on and I now only have 2 blue bars (not quit halfway). We will see. Many of these may just have bad batteries. Anybody know if they can be sent in for new ones and if it would be expensive?? Did we get ripped?

RE the battery:

It may not be that we have faulty units, the battery may just take that long to charge. It seemed like a common complaint on the Vizio website.

I'm not saying I like it, I'm just saying that might just be the way it is.

Question for Philhead (or anyone else):

I will have my vtab waiting for me when I get back from christmas break. As an aside though, how long would it REALLY take to root this device? I have some basic experience with installing software, setting up a wireless network (stuff almost anyone can do), but I have NEVER rooted a device before. Total Baby New Year here.

Does the XDA forum provide instructions for newbies?

I think he means the UPDATE to the Vizio tab is 1.5. Not the O/S that's running it (Android 2.3 or "Gingerbread").

In order to root the device (and perhaps upgrade to Android 3.0 or "Honeycomb") - the update (ver 1.4 to 1.5) must NOT be installed.

This is what I got from reading the XDA forums.
