What I did buy for myself today - new dishes! I got mine in 1971, I think it's time. Husband's going to freak out when he sees they're square.

I'm still using my Fiesta that I bought about 15 yrs ago. Pink & blue. Grandma had Fiestaware so it gives me warm fuzzies. I have some old collector pieces on the tops of my cabinets in the kitchen.

He hasn't said anything. I didn't ask him if he liked it. No point. I don't want him to tell me if he doesn't. I'm sticking with Corelle. I absolutely can't stand chipped dishes and I know I'd chip anything else quickly. And I need service for 12, so....

Knock on wood but I've never had a problem with chipped dishes. I'd throw one out immediately too because I remember a story on the germs & bacteria they can harbor. <shiver>

Weird stuff you can buy on Amazon.

When you look at these, look at the "Customers Who Bought Items Like this Also Bought." Some are pretty funny.

I saw that...and the rolling one...and the flying one...luckily, I am not that bad...

I have had this alarm clock a long time...and...the 9v battery thing doesn't work in power outages...hopefully new one will...just in case...the OCD coming out again!

Alarm clock and 9V battery given to me for Christmas.

What I want to buy myself in the new year...maybe...still researching the best prices...

1.) 1 year supply (8 boxes) of "Focus 1-2 week" contact lenses. Looking to spend $11.99-13.99/box.

4.) 17" Laptop, Core 2 Duo, 2.0-2.2 GHz, 2-3 GB Ram, 250-320GB HD, CD/DVD writer, Built-in Bluetooth capability, MS 2007 Word/Excel/Powerpoint, Transfer cable, Vista or XP, Nice Glossy Monitor...Looking to Spend $1,000-1,700.

5.) King size electric/warming blanket that is pet/claw safe. Looking to spend $40-120.

Did you see my comment in the other thread about using a warming mattress pad instead of a blanket? You wouldn't have to worry about claws that way. Some people swear by them.

Edit: I always put a comforter/blanket over my electric blanket. Wouldn't that be enough to protect it from claws? I never really worried about it to tell you the truth.

I did see your comment...however, one of the kitties "digs" with her claws to get under the covers while the other two stay on top of the covers. She digs plenty strong enough to rip my sheets at times, so a mattress pad might be unnerving, too.

I can go from covers on to covers off in a matter of hours. So, the comforter on top of the electric blanket would expose me to some risk...

I guess it is my paranoia about electric blankets. When I was very young, I was in bed when one from Sears caught on fire. It burnt through the top mattress, my blankets and comforter...while I was still in bed. It was literally inches from my feet.

Yikes. I can see your concern. I think they are a lot safer now though. Anything electrical is going to have wires though. The only alternative is warmer PJs or a hot water bottle. That'll be fun when the kittie claws it.

It's safe because of its construction, low voltage, and safeguards. It's still not going to be kittie proof if that is your major concern. It still has wires... smaller ones... but still wires.

In a quick glance around Google, the conern seems more about older (more than 10yrs) blankets and worn blankets than cats. So far I haven't found any concern with cats... other than the blankets are instant magnets and may turn your cat into a bed hog.

EDIT: Ok, I can find people asking about the concern but no answers saying it's a no-no or they've had problems.
