Damm Identity thieves.

If someone wants to share my identity, I think they should also be required to cut the lawn occasionally, pay part of my taxes, and clean up dog poop.

No kidding! The dust those things create!

An idea for when you have grandkids: We had a huge box (like washing machine or something) around Christmas time. We kept filling it with the styrofoam peanuts in packages we'd get. It made a great play thing for son. He could bury himself in it, dig, etc. Neighbor kids loved it too.

We save the huge boxes, too, if we get one. The little pigs are inside and I'm the big, bad wolf.

You won't be able to sleep tonight. Better have a drink first.

KT, have you checked your internet company's website? They usually offer free anti-virus software.

Both Road Runner & Comcast offer free Antivirus software - name brands. Check it out before you buy.

Norton is such a pain in the a** unless you're using the corporate edition... I use AVG. It is free and IMHO good enough for the home user who has good internet habits.

AVG (formerly Ewido) is great!

*hi-fives!*

Personally, Norton and McAffee have only ever served to cripple my computers. They stick their little fingers into every part of your computer and take over. Caused more problems than they ever prevented...

Realized I didn't put AVG back on after my Vista upgrade. It appears it doesn't have Vista support.

You need to uninstall you Norton before installing McAfee.

I will say that I had better luck with McAfee than Norton.

I got CA EZArmor from Road Runner. It seems ok and they had a fix for Vista.

Yea, Vista has only been available to developers for over 2 years. It's their fault.

Actually...

"GRISOFT announced today that AVG Anti-Virus has earned Checkmark certification from West Coast Labs on Windows Vista Business Edition. This is the first anti-virus program to successfully pass the certification requirements for anti-virus level 1 (detection), anti-virus level 2 (cleaning) and Trojan protection for the business edition of Windows Vista operating system."

http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1

Also, knowing Windows and Microsoft, I'm sure whatever they were presented with two years ago wasn't enough to come out with a passable program the day of Vista's release. Vista is different enough that you can't just revamp your software overnight and launch it.

Edit: That stuff takes serious time, especially when your customer base is still using XP and you have to devote yourself to them. They do offer a free program and updates, afterall.

F-Secure is actually the one Charter offers for free. Don't use it though... And most of what they are listing are features. Most programs will protect you fine. I'm concerned more about their impact on my system and you can only really learn that by trying them out.

I put that on my girlfriend's cousin's new laptop. It came as part of the software package Lenovo sent along. She's pretty dumb with computers and she hasn't said a word about having any problems with it, so I'm guessing it's as easy as they say.
