i'd be more concerned about the legal issues, though i think you may have just skirted them...

i was looking forward to this theme; i expected it would turn out a lot of nice designs, and it seems to have done so... hopefully there'll be a lot in this group that don't make the top 3 that woot decides to make anyway...

I don't think my shirt is even close to any legal issues- it is/was clearly a parody in more than one sense, and it doesn't even say CalvinBall- It says C4V1N8411. Even the number isn't related to C&H- its the numbers for leet 1337.

I'm pretty skeptical of all the ones with a single orange leaf- I think that's a tired old idea, and I bet there are a lot of shirts already out there just like those. I'm even wondering whether the backsplash tiles are really unknown- I bet you can buy similar ones.

I think you're underestimating how much the big media companies go after any perceived infringement of their IP (the law forces them into it, really). It is a little tricky in the case of C&H since Watterson got the [then unheard-of for an artist] rights to the C&H IP, but I beleive he has an arrangement with Andrews McMeel Universal to pursue infringements on his behalf, because someone's still going after the people who make those "Calvin peeing on some logo" stickers. And I could see a case being made that just because it's in leet doesn't mean that it doesn't say Calvinball. I'm not saying for sure it'd be successful, but were the shirt to reach a top spot, I could see Woot deciding they didn't want to find out.

well, yes, that is overdone... i don't know about the leaf tiles, but the ones i've really been liking are the end of summer/beach ones, especially Beach Closed. I also really liked Always check leaf piles for T-Rex.

Now most humans live in a world of stoplights and sidewalks, of storefronts and garbage trucks, cheek-by-jowl with millions of their closest friends. Not even the seductive quietude of suburbia could manage to kill off the city ideal - urbanity is hotter than ever and it's not going away. This week we're looking for designs that celebrate and criticize city living, that point out the striking or poignant or funny details in the urban environment, and that deal with subject matter unique to the city. Please don't try submitting a picture of a pizza or a pair of socks on the grounds that people in cities eat pizza and wear socks. Off-topic: a tree. On-topic: a tree growing through a sidewalk. Get the idea? Also, we will reject any re-submission from a past Derby unless significant changes have been made to it. And one more limitation: no words, or letters, or text of any kind. Yesterday when I commented on NO1's drawing of Poof. I said that I only had images in my mind of Tall and Terry...you said something like we don't even know who Terry is? I don't know who anyone is or what they look like on here except Cruzer I did see a grad. photo of him. Don't you have images in your mind of what you think people look like that you haven't seen on here? Take me for example, what do you think...brothers please refrain from putting me in stockings and garter belt, ty.
