Finally got ours today after waiting 3 1/2 weeks. I was going to give it to my nephew for Christmas, but thought it looked cheap, so I let my kids and hubby play with it. They put it around the tree and it works great.

Perfecto! Good thing they did not offer this any later in the year as it took a while for it to arrive. Two for the boys and one for my train-freak father-in-law.

I have the exact same problem as abram. This is a POS. It won't go around the tracks without falling off (on a flat surface) because the wheels on the engine have this massive wobble. Makes it 2/3 around the track and falls off.

What a waste, last time I buy any cheap item like this on woot.

Anyone have manufacturer contact number seriously they should not be selling junk like this.

I got three. The wheels fell off the first one after only circling half of the track. The tracks were cracked on the second one. Maybe with all 3, I will have a complete working set for the kids to enjoy for 5 minutes... or less.

Heck, my set hasn't even left the state and I still haven't gotten it. It's been down the street at the post office since Saturday.

This is rediculous.

Got mine yesterday... one is staying at home, one is going to Toys for Tots.

Thoughts? It's... not great... not horrible, but certainly not wonderful. I broke two of the tracks putting it together (although they weren't irreparable), but I haven't had any problems with the actual operation of the thing. I do hate that there's only enough track for a circle (and no straight track, so it's a circle or nothin').

I got mine a couple of days ago and set one up last night. For $5, it's an alright deal. It fascinated my 3.5 year old for a good 15 minutes (until I got tired of putting the thing back on its rails after my 11 month old knocked it over) , building various of his toys into tunnels for the train to go through.

The only one I opened (I got 3) worked fine, it stays on track, it runs, and none of the track broke while assembling it. All in all I'm pleased. I like the idea of donating the other two to toys for tots or maybe a local women's shelter that also takes toy donations. I had my fun, and I got a woot purchase towards the elusive black square. I got more fun out of this than the $30 remote controlled glider crap-toy from a woot-off last year.

[QUOTE}
My 3 sets finally arrived.
And who says you can't get quality from China?

Or, at least a quick review of your English skills?

To recap, for those of you who haven't seen the packaging,

'Handpick Play Set"

"Simulating
The True Styles And
Making Carefully"

"Battery Operated With Flashlight"
(I assume this is how they describe the engine headlight feature)

"Installation Way Of Batteries"

"Link of Rails"

"Link of Body"
(Picture described shows how cars link)

"The Universe of Classic Train"

(And these fine print instructions on the side of the box)

Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged. (always good advice)
Rechargeable batteries are to be removed from the item before being charged. (Hmmmmm...)
Rechargeable batteries are to be only to be charged under adult supervision.
Batteries are to be inserted with the correct polarity.
Exhausted batteries are to be removed from the item.
(I'm exhausted just reading this stuff!)
The supply terminals are not to be short circuited. (Aw, c'mon, let's have a little fun)

And finally, THE MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION,

" The packaging HAS to be kept since it contains important information."

Now, if that wasn't worth the wait, I can't imagine what else could top it!!!
[/QUOTE]
You left out my favorite part. On the side of the tanker, it say OIL CAN.

Christ, it's a $5 fu*kin trainset, you people spend more than that at $tarbuck$ for god's sake. Some people expect to be able to hand this thing down to their great grandchildren, it sounds. Yes it's made in China, yes it's cheap, yes there's some pretty scary engrish involved - what did you expect? Enjoy it, give it away, do something with it but for god's sake, let the great american past time of bitching about stuff that's dirt cheap take a break.

I got one for my AP Chem teacher, who is kind of obsessed with trains.

Who cares if it works? That alone was worth the $10 for the set and the shipping!

I got home, and there it was on the table!

What a magnificent piece of crap!

It feels like its made out of saltines, the engine barely puts down enough tractive effort to haul a cellphone in the gondola car.

Its awesome! I love it!

I did notice it stays on track if it runs counter clockwise, and derails like a CSX road train if it goes clockwise.

And yes, the Engrish and crappy packaging are worth $10!!!!!!!

WELL WORTH THE WAIT!!!!!!

Got mine the other day. After reading all the horror stories on woot I was expecting far worse than what I got.. purchased two... opened one. was bigger than I expected. Worked perfectly on my first try. Took a little time to position it on the track.

Mine finally came in today. <grumble>About time.</grumble>

To those who have been having problems with it staying on the track:

Check the plastic wheels. Two of my cars axles were set in the wrong holes on the "wheel holdy thingy" (proper term escapes me at the moment). They looked like they were angled for the track curve, counter-clockwise, as some have reported. Just move the axles into the correct axle holding holes so they are straight and make the wheels directly across from each other like on a normal train and it will stay on the track, even if the track is on an uneven surface. One of the plastic axles on the engine was incorrectly placed too, check the engine also.

Incorrect placement of the axles was the norm for all three sets I ordered.

I stress tested one set by letting my kids play with it (3 small humans aged 6,8,10, and one small adult cat, the large adult dog wasn't interested.) The train held up surprisingly well, even after they constructed a "tunnel" made up of plastic containers that kept falling on the train. The cat kept attacking the box car when the small humans kept putting his favorite cat-nip mouse toy in it. The only harm was the box car (HAU L) falling off the track, letting the engine and "OILC AN" car escape. I did have one coupler fall off (others have had this problem), it is simply a screw that holds it in, it wasn't tightened properly. A dab of superglue on the screw before putting it back in sets it in the plastic threads, it shouldn't come out again.

Verdict: I was going to keep one set for the small humans and drop the other two sets off in a toys-for-tots box, but since this is a *REALLY* cheap toy set, won't last more than a few weeks (maybe days) I am actually going to go to Target and just buy some true, time tested, metal Tonka trucks. For charity, those things rock as they can take a beating for years. My Tonkas lasted years when I was a kid, my kids Tonkas are still sitting in the backyard after 8 years in the weather and they still play with them. They hold up for a long time.

I got mine (3) Wednesday, but finally got around to opening one tonight.

The two threshold issues for me were figuring out where the batteries went and connecting the tracks. It wasn't eminently clear until I *really* scrutinized the packaging that the top of the engine came off and that I had to unscrew it. If I were a stressed-out parent assembling this on Christmas Eve to have ready in the morning, that would certainly be confusing.

In addition, my plan was to give at least one to Toys for Tots or some similar charity, but it's certainly not a given that a household has the kind of screwdriver to get that screw off (I needed a smaller one, and I know that when I was growing up not to long ago, that kind of screwdriver wasn't in the house). So to donate this, I think I'll need to remove the screw first and just leave it off when donating (alternatively, putting the batteries and then rescrewing, but the batteries could drain too much that way).

The other issue was that the track fitting was tough. If you weren't careful, someone who was stressed out could break the piece.

But otherwise, it worked very well, had no problems staying on the track if you were careful with placing it (it would run on a hardwood floor too), and the flashlight was nearly enough to read by! I certainly would have enjoyed this when I was younger, and have to force myself not to decide to keep all three of these for myself.

I agree. My post, just above yours, also goes into about NOT giving these to charity. Too much maintenance, high breakable factor, and all around just being cheap (workmanship and donor!) I am going to spend some more for some quality toys for charity, not this cheap crap.

It finally arrived today. It looks like this thing is a dud for most people, but mine works fine. Tracks snapped together perfectly and I don't even have them on a hard, flat surface. It's under my Christmas tree on the skirt and the train stays on the track like a champ. It looks like it could use more power but maybe it's the batteries in it. Hopefully it doesn't fall apart or anything because I love it under the tree and the box was worth the five bucks alone.

Got mine around 12/4 or 12/5. I just opened it tonight (12/7) and my issues are: the thing is incredibly noisy, too noisy in fact. Also, the engine seems rather weak. It will barely pull one car, and won't really move at all with both cars attached. I had mine going clock wise, so perhaps I'll try the other direction and see if that helps. It does seem to stay on the track once you position the engine wheels just so. Oh, and my track assembled fine. It seems like it came with one spare track piece.

At least it was only 10 bucks. I guess next year I will invest a bit more for a train that can go around the Xmas tree. Oh well. I may let my 3-year-old son play with it, cuz I'm sure he'll tear it up in a matter of minutes, then I won't have to worry about what to do with it.

At least I got a Wii today, so the toy factor today wasn't a total loss!! ;-)

Well as a rare wooter I am tickled by this one.

I bought 3 and thanks to those people who got theirs early and indicated they were suseptible to breakage St. Nick gave all 3 sets for the family [ 2 kids and a parts machine.

I have 2 that made it through the week end. I am really tempted to start reworking some track peices that are broken to make a different pattern.

note: 1 on the engines doesn't sounds so good. but when it dies I can use the drive wheels for the one that does not move.

-------------------------------------
thus I wish to wish you all a thanks for warning me what was coming... had I given just 2 to the kids I would have some serious esplainin to do!

Well, I took a close look at my engine drive wheels. On two of the three engines, one wheel is crooked. No wonder they kept leaving the track!

Luckily, the third's drive wheels are true. And it works like a champ. Pulls all six cars from the three sets. Hasn't fallen off the track yet.

What looked like a waste of $20 now looks like a sweet deal.

So, if yours is heading off the rails, see if you can't straighten the drive wheels.

I just setup mine. Total Garbage and probably laced with Lead paint. I just left my two AA's in the train and tossed the whole set in the trash. I'd be REALLY careful about letting a child near these. I joke about the lead paint but you have to be extremely careful with cheap toys from China.

I am always AMAZED at the people that think they are expecting some fine piece of craftsmanship with a five dollar purchase? My train set is under the tree and has been working better than expected. It also survived a 3 yr old playing with it. All in all I can honestly say that it was worth the money. = )
