The standard Roomba Red and the Roomba 400 both come with a standard charger that takes 7 hours to fully recharge the Roomba. All models above that come with the fast charger, which fully recharges the Roomba in less than 3 hours.

If you get a second, you could entertain friends with your very own roomba wars episode.

Keep getting this message.

"Your account has already purchased this sale."

open a new account and use another credit card, works that way. you can use the same Email address and the name on the credit card can be the same.

Is this thing so cheap simply because it's refurbzorzed? Seems like they're usually more expensive, no? Maybe those are more expensive models.

By everything I've read this should be able to climb the steep edge of my oriental rugs, but now I get to test it for myself! I hear there are issues with fringes, but mine are mostly gone now anyway...

Does anyone ever get one that looks like the picture? Mine (three) always look like the one called the Sage with the three buttons close together. I can't figure out if it's older than these or what.

For those of you that like to hack, check out

http://hackingroomba.com/

Lots of great ideas on what to do with a roomba besides vacuuming.
it is a pretty cheap robotics base for this price.

Ah f*** it.

I'll just buy one because my dorm room is always messy. I also don't have a roommate or a maid to clean up after me. (I live in a single.)

Thanks!

Vacuuming will extend the life of your carpet by lifting dirt and debris out of the fiber and bring it back to life. The longer dirt and debris sit, the fiber will be broken down. Hope that helps.

I own a 550 Roomba named Betty (as in Friedan) and a Scooba named Simone (as in de Beauvoir) and they're two of the best purchasing decisions I've ever made, hands down.

I have the Betty do two or three room/hallway combinations every other day, which covers my whole house more often than weekly. This involves a mix of long shag carpet, short pile carpet, linoleum, and tile, and it cleans them all better than I would with an upright -- give it a small enough area, and it will do literally dozens of passes over each part.

It's comparatively trivial to empty/clean, and while, yes, it doesn't do deep-down cleaning on my long shag carpeted areas, I run it often enough that I don't need anything more up to the full-on power steam cleaning I do twice a year anyways.

I recommend Roombas (and Scoobas) highly to any fencesitters. They're not gag or vanity items; they're increcibly convenient and do a good job that is more than worth the price.

Bottom line: as far as I'm concerned, I was not put on this earth to do stupid boring repetitive tasks better suited to inexpensive well-made automated machinery. Or feminist icons. Or inexpensive well-made automated machinery satirically named for feminist icons.

Because it is $99. It's not like anyone is buying a car here. Breaks, throw it away. Sadly, this is a disposable world.

klswoot wrote:Anyone really use the scheduling option. Or, do you just run it when you are there. Just curious.

The scheduling option seems useless because you would still need to empty the dust bin between cleanings. Other than that, the Roomba is great! I just bought the new generation and I have the Discovery. The new ones are a litlle better in design and they clean almost twice as long. I use them both.

I guess if it only lasts 90 days then it will cost about $1+ a day and so on and so on.

would this robot's charging system be compatible(i.e. not fry the moment you plug it in) with different electric currents in other countries, say 220 instead of 110?

psm321 wrote:Other than being remanufactured and the scheduler, how is this different from the DIscovery SE that was $120 or so during the woot-off? There's so many roomba models it's hard to figure out what the differences are. (Is this better? worse? better for certain things and worse for others?)

It is better because of the scheduler remote and the two scheduler virtual walls (but mainly the scheduler remote). However, for me the scheduler remote is just something I want but I probably won't actually use the scheduling feature to tell the truth. Mainly, it's an accessory upgrade form the one you mentioned. The remote is 40 bucks and now comes with some replacement brushes and filters on the irobot site.
The cleaner has all the features it seems. Between spot mode, max mode and the dirt detect feature I think that spot is most useful. That way if you make a localized mess you can just put the roomba on it and press spot clean and it won't waste time cleaning the whole room. The other features, max and dirt detect, well they're good to have but you probably wouldn't miss them if they were not included.

I think you would have to use a converter because the back of the charger syas 120V 60Hz.
Also, the plug would probably be different anyway and it wouldn't fit in the socket. Right? These are the regular three prong plugs found in the US.

It would have been nice if it supported 220 V @ 50 Hz. Damn it. Can't buy it

I'm getting one... My 14 year old son actually asked for one of these for Christmas, he keeps birds and his carpet is always littered with spilled seeds and husks. How big of an object can this pick up?

I think I'll get one for a spare roomba/parts and the schedular remote. My mom can have the cleaning tool, since hers didn't come with one even though it was supposed to come with one. (Do these really come with one WOOT?)

this will be my fourth roomba - four total - all came from Woot. One was supplied by them but purchased through another reseller. I haven't had any probs and one was a refurb (rox0rz!). However, the last one said the cleaning tool was included and it wasn't. No big deal. Scissors work better anyway.
