If someone could really confirm that this is a V1 (rockbox-compatible) e260, I'd be in for at least one.

No good. This charges and transfers via the Proprietary USB cable. It's a flat multipin connector (on the sansa side)
You can buy wall-chargers/car-chargers online.

Sure wish I would have known that before Christmas when I bought them for my 4 year olds. These are perfect, otherwise, for long car trips, airplanes...I just have to make sure the players get powered off when my kids lose interest.

hmmmm, tempting but you can still get the brown 30gb ZUNE people are flooding online auction sites with. they were selling for like 90 bucks just before the holidays. but everyone thought they'd make a killing re-selling them but there's so many out there you can get them very easily for a 110 or so.

not from what I've seen. It's usually the same size and approximate price. You can get a better deal if it ends up in a wootoff, but this is approximately the same price every time it's offered.

I myself have a Philips Go Gear... love the thing. I just wish I wasn't so afraid of everyone potentially scratching the face. I keep that puppy in it's neoprene-like cover all the time.

I bought this exact one last time it was available here and I must say that I like it. As you could expect, the headphones weren't the greatest, but the money I saved on the unit paid for a good set. The batteries are charged via USB port which I like as well. You don't even have to install the software that comes with it, just use Media Player in Windows and your done. The unit itself is easy to navigate but my only complaint is that if you pause it and leave for more than one minute, the unit turns itself off and it is a slow booting process. Other than that, I love this product. WELL, worth it to me.

It's flash based memory, which is far better than the HD based crap you see in the big MP3 players.

Yeah whatever you do, dont buy the wall charger that has the USB outlet.
I plugged in one of my other MP3 players to it and it got super hot and wouldnt work when i tried to turn it on.
i Opened it up and noticed all the circuits and stuff[[im no technology buff]] was completely obliterated.
it was tainted black in some areas, and parts melted off completely.
So word to the wise.
stay away from these demons unless you want to Do MP3 shopping[[Again]]

Got this player last time. It is very impressive. Big prob was trying to use Rhapsody. While online with them had many hang ups and reloads. Aggravating. Player wound up with several "double entries." Finally gave up on them!! But, they still charged me 89 cent per song in my "free trial period." Setting up play list was a nightmare. Didn't work!!

in for one. my cousin mentioned earlier today that an MP3 player he had gotten for christmas crapped out already so this would be a nice surprise for the kid.

I certainly hope the refurb (rox0rz!) will not cause a problem cause he really would need to use this while taking the bus to work and stuff.

Note: the following is based on a single model e260 I bought a couple weeks ago the last time this was wooted. YMMV, but I'm betting the hardware is consistent enough to assume the following is across the board on these.

I didn't mess with the Rhapsody features but if you go into USB settings on these it only shows MTP and MSC options, no REAL option, which is supposed to indicate that these are not the e260-R versions. I don't know for sure, and i wonder if the option is not visible in the menu if you don't install the rhapsody options or if these are simply the plain vanilla e260 versions.

In either case these have the V1 hardware, not the V2. Rockbox works on the V1 hardware only. The difference is not firmware, it is the actual chipset and bus so you can't change from one to the other. In other words, rockbox should work.

For the curous, the one I have has firmware version 01.02.18A

If these are e260-R versions there is a not-to-tedious extra step required to load rockbox.

The original firmware from sandisk does not support SDHC memory. Don't assume that these will support that bitchin boss 16 gig memory card you stole from your wife's camara. However, rockbox is supposed to support SDHC now, so you shouldn't be limited to just a 2G SD card.

The internal flash memory itself can be swapped if you are careful and handy with small tools. The rockbox site has good info in it. But don't assume you can just go buy a daughter card and swap it, it isn't that simple. If you have a 6G or 8G model that has a broken screen, this might be worth getting for parts, but again, you need to be confident in your toothpick and razorblade skills. Me, I would just get one of these and look for a buyer for my larger broken model and let them play electro-surgeon.

As for some of the other problems mentioned in these posts, the rockbox site has good links for those too. Things like how to get into restore mode, how to reformat it, running a scandisk via windows, cleaning up/converting album art, and what folder to delete if it keeps giving you the "needs to be synced" message.

All in all I am happy with mine and if I can swipe mama's plastic from her purse I'll get another one. Pound for pound this is about the best deal you can get on an MP3 player right now.

I bought this for my daughter for her birthday in Sept. from CC and less than 30 days later it wouldn't work right. They replaced it with a new one and two months later it is not working again. I hope the rest of you have better luck. I went online about the problems she was having and seems like numerous people have had the same problem with it. It will not sync any more with the to go music sites like Napster and Rhapsody. It works for awhile and then it won't sync so it just keeps saying you need to sync it. I haven't called their customer service yet but am told they aren't that great. Good Luck!!

Switch to MSC mode and then browse to \SYSTEM\WMDRMPD and delete or rename STORE.HDS. That did the trick on mine. Don't forget to put it back in MTP mode when finished.

I like my 2GB model. It is great for traveling (I do for work). I have videos and photos of the kids and a bunch of music for the boring plane rides. At this price, if it gets wercked, I'm not out a lot. I think the Sansa is a pretty good deal.

It depends on the model Macintosh you have. Some will work, most won't. Apple isn't exactly consistent in that respect. Never has been. They chose to solve the issue by staying proprietary, while the common business model is to set a standard for third party stuff and let the market sort it out.

Kind of like a constitutional democracy versus a fascist dictatorship. They all serve kool-aid, its just a matter of whether you get to choose the flavor or not ;)

I bought this from best buy last week for $119.99. I love that it plays video and shows pictures, but I was really disappointed in it as a music player. For some reason, the rhapsody program interfered with all the songs I've purchased from wal mart.com and would not play them at all. It was very frustrating. Other than that and the fact that 4 GB was not enough to hold my library, I was pleased.
Yesterday I exchanged it for an 8 GB model. We'll see how that goes.

I have this and love it. I bought it the last time it was on here, and yes, it is refurb (rox0rz!), but like everything on woot, you could never tell-except for the refurb (rox0rz!) thing stamped on back . The year warranty still stands. Its controls are very user friendly and when I am in a fast run I can easily change the song or whatever on the fly. This is a deal for four gigs. My husband's Ipod is 4 G and he likes mine just as much as his.

No, it will not do anything automatic with POD casts. However, there are planty of POD casts that are MP3 format and they can be loaded to the SANSA as easy as drag and drop.

Got this for my fiance for xmas, and he loves the hell out of it. I had a smaller, not-as-spiffy 2 gig sansa, which is battery-dead and buried in my purse. I had such sansa envy when I saw the one I got him, I've been hoping it would show up again.

He put all the Aqua Teen Hunger Force episodes on his and we watch them together when we're taking a train trip; we got the radio syncing-thingie too, so it just beams it to the radio frequency for wireless connection. Very cool, pics show up great on it too.

I bought the 2GB one from an earlier woot. It was great until it stopped working 2-3 weeks after receiving it. When turning it on the navigation ring lights but nothing else happens. Skip it!

The video playback isn't great. When I converted a 21 min divx TV show the filesize actually went up while the quality went waaaay down!
