I don't think it has snowed here since my freshman year. There has been ice, but no snow that I know of.

we had some flakes early as i was driving in (could only see them with high-beams on), and it looked like it was heavier later on, but it'd transitioned to rain by sun-up... i was providing some support for the automated closing system, and was really tempted to give my school a longer delay, since i hadn't done my hw between working last night and again this morning...

By the way, how much support does an "automated" closing system require?

oh plenty for those PEBKAC and ID-10T errors... lots of people simply weren't calling the automated number, but we seemed to have a few ligitimate problems with people using cell phones. some decided to institute a delay at the last minute, but hadn't brought their code with them. then there were the people who decided they wanted the name of their business changed subtly (including one who saw a very similar school name and thought we'd messed her school's name up, something like Heritage Christian Academy vs. Heritage Christian Preschool, which were two separate entities). We even got a lady who effectively signs our paychecks calling in wanting us to change how we were identifying her daughter's preschool, because it wasn't what she expected. The guy in charge of the system effectively told her to go soak her head because she wasn't the school, in a way that wouldn't get him fired, of course.
I seemed to spend most of the time helping the other person who was working support, because we were actually working on an old Unix program from 1990... apparently the only reason that particular server still stays around. I think it was taking the guy in charge back to his old systems operator days, because he was instructing me to be less helpful and more obstructive, sorta.

Wasn't congress going to vote on this stuff- didn't Google get big time involved in it, because allowing them to charge more to people who use more bandwidth is unamerican or something?

raining here now too.everyone is home, so we don't have to worry about it until morning. Might close school, wouldn't be a surprise since they've had no snow days yet.

someone sent us a very angry email about how we'd made them take their kids out to the bus stop only to find out school was delayed, because when they watched from 5:10 to 5:20 they didn't see that school was delayed. that system being delayed ONLY happened to be the top story we mentioned (because they've got 120,000+ students), and I'm sorry they missed seeing it on the continuous ticker we ran during the 10 minutes that they deigned to watch the broadcast, given that at our peak we were running 260+ closings/delays. i'm sorry they couldn't be bothered to keep watching longer to make sure they hadn't missed it in the alphabetical order under "Public Schools", or check our website, or the school's website, or watched the previous night when we'd mentioned it... it's a good thing they don't let me reply to those emails

Well, then . . . grab a recipe, get in the kitchen, make some mistakes, learn from them, and then try the same recipe in two weeks . . . do that with a new dish once or twice a week . . . you'll learn!!

The school's phonetree called us at 5:20 this morning to tell us that there was a two hour delay. Scared us to death. Woke husband up. Oh hello everybody. It's Friday for me! And I'm taking Tuesday off also. If the weather and elderly parents cooperate, we're going to the beach.
