I love Hackers! Here's some nerd trivia you may or may not know: One of the Tokyo hackers is played by Naoko Mori, who went on to be one of the stars of Torchwood (it's a Dr Who spin-off, where she plays Toshiko).

Also, there's an olympic sized pool on the roof, you should go up and check it out.

Still under 30, but I get the sense very few people on this site are as old or older. Still, when I was reading Goblet of Fire my friends were drinking beer at 1:00pm on a monday. My wife is more like me so spending an entire Sunday reading the seventh book didn't feel as dorky.

<------31 yr old Harry Potter fan. As each book came out I'd read 'em on teh bus on my way to work. Saw lots of other "older professional" peeps reading them too. We'd all catch each other's eyes and grin conspiratorially.

On Demand is the best..that's what I'm watching it one now. Hacker's is just one of those movies that I'll watch over and over. Like Ocean's 11 and Silverado and Aliens.

Apparently there is quite a history of this in India. Snopes has several incidents listed, over several years, I think, and this latest one has been in the news here in DC several times over the past couple of weeks. My image was drawn several months ago, though, and this is the first derby that it was appropriate for.

It is pretty cool. I voted for it. I thought it was extra appropriate considering that it is real, and really scary. Did you see the sewn up people on that article? That was messed up!

I saw. And ELS suggested I post my sketch. She probably didn't believe I had one. So I posted it. On one hand I'm really upset and shocked it's so close to the original. On the other I'm kind of proud of it because that means I've improved my sketch-to-mouse skills. I also tattled on it and explained everything and said that yes, I used it as a guide, linked my sketch, and said if it's still too close then please reject it because I didn't actually think it ended up that close since I didn't check. Oh well. I'm happy enough with my work. I'm not happy that people don't believe me now but there's not much I can do about it. I know and anyone in the field will know I'm telling the truth.

C'est la vie.

I have yet another idea for a shirt for this derby, but it may be too late to have a chance. Before I spend time I don't really have I want some opinions. I got the idea this morning after thinking that surely Jimiyo's entry will get rejected for being off topic and possibly copyrighted, but cute animals could get votes. This may be rejected too, so I need any sort of opinion you have.

This is a very rough sketch with contour lines to guide myself in photoshop later that I just drew during my lunch (I don't have photoshop at work). It is a boston terrier in carbonite.

My opinion? It's cute. It also won't get enough votes to merit submitting at this point. I'd say start working on it but don't finish it completely. Later if you find a theme it fits you can finish it. Or you can incorporate it into another design. *Or* you could finish it and save it for whatever. ^_^

good advice. probably won't be useful but I will still have some satisfaction if I ever make it. It would actually be way more fun to try and make it photorealistic, but then have no chance of winning money, at least not on this website.

Edit: the DESIGN probably won't be useful, not the advice.
