The part that has me skeptical is the implication that they can find out who got screwed, so there's no need to e-mail them or post anything. They'll be "proactive" about straighening things out and will "communicate" with those people.

The cynic in me wonders of they're just trying to limit the e-mails from the apparently large number of people who feel they've been screwed. As someone who finally got to click the "golden button" for a Baiting other consumers, only to have to deal with a bunch of frustration and apparently not getting an order through, I'm eagerly waiting for the communication.

One can see how brilliant woot's marketing is when so many people treat this as if it were actually important, and feel that they've been "screwed" by merely being denied the opportunity to buy a bunch of crud.

My suggestion is to forget all about it; then, if you hear from them, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Type it out once, then copy it. When you get to the Baiting other consumers, you'll be able to paste it in. It probably won't be too much faster, but every millisecond helps.

We're constantly tweaking and recoding the order allocation process to allow for features of each woot site. We definitely like pushing the envelope -- we know features and events such as this are important to our members. Several things popped up here at once due to recent evolutions of the site. The "ordered already" messaging was indeed a main process glitch - a normal woot sale rule that we expected to be dropped from the multi-part release code apparently did execute as planned. That combined with a very unexpected bottleneck in the reservation system on releases 2 and 3 allowed for an unprecedented number of members to have both been in queue before and then subsequently stopped from getting in line for release 4.

A few minor points to make: The total sum of units awarded didn't change due to these glitches - the misfortune of some very early in the process led to the success of others also very early but who otherwise would have been too late. Remember, receiving the 'already ordered' message did not indicate that you would have been positioned in the queue to "win" but that you were stopped from entering this queue for a chance to "win".

So to boil it down we're aware of some unfairness in the outcome and we will be investigating what data we have on who was affected (and of course what the problems were so we can fix them). I believe that we will have data sources tied to your account that will enable us to see the scope of the issue and communicate with those affected proactively (there should be no need to email member services or post here). I and other staff will be exploring some hopefully fun solutions.

After 4 years of expansion and evolution, we have made a lot of mistakes as well as a lot of progress. While it's certainly frustrating when we backslide or I am an un-original person to recognize new issues before they happen, we intend to continue applying our resources to best bring you entertaining events. We're often at our best coming up with creative solutions to challenging problems.
