on another note, did anyone NOT have any problems getting the big old cootie? by reading all the comments, i would think everyone had problems. personally, neither my wife nor i had problems. my wife's purchase sat on the processing page for some undetermined amount of time (at least 10 min, but then we went out to eat). but when we got back, she had the confirmation email and it shows in her account. my purchase in the first round went through in less than 10 min.

I woke up today with that small hope that a crap confirmation would appear in my email. Sadly not this time.

I did win my first Box of Coca-Cola on my first attempt during my first wootoff a little over a month ago so I was very lucky...and I scored a roomba which made me very happy. Yesterday was just not my day, but a HUGE CONGRATS to those who won their Boxes of Crayons yesterday.

Just remember that the anticipation is one of the best parts and make sure to check back on posts to see what others receive in their boxes. I honestly think that took the Bag of Caca to a whole new fun level for me.

There will be another woot-off, and I shall be victorious!

My wish list:

A telephone headset that uses a cushioned earset, not an earbud

An HDTV, no larger than 42", anything bigger won't fit our entertainment center

A screaming Woot monkey with a red cape (got all the other colors)

An anvil would make a nice door stop (or toe stop when it's dark)

The cats would like wind up mice or toonas

Camera cases are always welcome

Packing peanuts and bags of Texas air are okay, I'll recycle them

Got some ideas from : http://www.bagsofcrap.com/boc_items/

The funnest part is the anticipation. For the last three years, I've tried. I've cried on husband's shoulder when I never been successful. Well, I get p!ssy more than I cry. I tell him about this wonderful, mythical, legendary bag I could/might get some day, so that I'll be special, too. I rave about the things people get, even the broken pieces of porcelain. I thought he understood, I truly believed he grokked the wonderful package of goodies or badies.

So, he says to me last night as we're clearing the table. "When will it get here?" When it gets here. "When will you know what you got?" When it gets here.

He must have asked me the same thing five different ways and each time he got the same answer. "When it gets here."

I think he's as excited as I am.

The first 3 or so times I saw the Brown Orangatang Crackers I never had a chance... always sold out before I could hit any button....

Since then I have gotten 3 BOCs and each one seemed to go smoothly but I missed out on a Friday night and had to stay up early on Christmas morning to do so... yesterday was really smooth. I woke up at 1AM. Signed on expecting to get a Baiting other consumers.. missed the first one because I fell back asleep. Got the 2nd round from work.

Went to the dentist... found out I need a root canal. Went home and my gf scored her first Baiting other consumers (though we only selected I want 2 - clicked too fast) but two is better than none. That took a while but, no lines, went smooth.

Funny.. I got my first bag last month, and I was doing the crap dance all over the house... The wife didn't understand.. My 12 year old hid under her bed. My 5 year old laughed and laughed.. When I explained to them what it was all about, their anticipation was greater than mine. Then, one day my cell rings at my office, and it's my wife and daughter - breathless - calling to tell me the box from wwot! arrived, and can they open it.... I gave in, but told them to re-seal it so i could enjoy opening it as well.

I got home, and opened a box filled with nothing but a camera bag and 49 bags of Texas air.... My wife snagged the Roomba, my daughter grabbed all the other goodies... I was really bummed, but laughed anyway... Then they told me that they had emptied the box prior to my arrival...

It seems to me that the fact that I completely missed the first three attempts at the Baiting other consumers(was away from my desk for 2 and 3, and sleeping during the first) contributed to my First success. I was mildly shocked at how easy it seemed by comparison to every other time, where pretty much my computer shut down and started laughing at me.

I'm just frigging stoked, because every other attempt I've made in the past 7 months have yeilded nothing but despair, and I've been put on the damn list several times as well.

I'm sorry that there were issues, but I'm sure that had everything been normal, i'd still be Baiting other consumers-less.

Sellout times seemed awfully long for the bags, and that was a clue that something was amiss.

In a normal wootoff, you'd be getting a Hubert Humphrey bust, or maybe a Roomba...

Me thinks you'll be seeing some B&D batteries in your bag this time out.... :-)

You're probably right. But I had planned on buying some to give out in Christmas stockings, but missed them! Can you believe it? watched the damn things all day long, and when I was ready to buy, they were sold out. sheesh.

I really hope, though, that this Baiting other consumers is in all crappiness what I hope it will be.

p.s. I already have a roomba, so don't need that--love it, too.

In my case, nearly 4 years worth, and no Baiting other consumers's so far...luck of the draw, and thats fine. In yesterday's case, I was too late on the first one (so whats new?), got queued on the 2nd and 3rd ones, then got the dreaded glitch on the 4rd one; which I hopped on as soon as Wootalyzer picked it up since it got it before my F5 did.

Had it been yet another "too late, we're sold out", that would have been fine...hasn't been the first time, as I already said.

I like the anology about the airplane tickets that was given earlier...pretty much sums it up for me.

I'm replying to myself just to keep continuity here in what I'm talking about going. I'm admittedly not 100% caught up on the conversation since this with logistics and other happenings taking some attention.

As some of you have guessed, we're indeed having a hell of a time trying to find the right log analysis to identify the total number of users affected by the "already ordered" glitch. By nature of the error, we don't have orders on file and unfortunately the "already ordered" flag in question was already resolving itself at the actual time of the 4th sale. Developers are breaking for lunch to try and discuss it some more. The core issue is that if we can't narrow down who was effected to a correct number, we're going to be dealing with such a large "potentially affected" group that it will dilute our solution capabilities.

Snapster wrote:Hello Woot Members - it's been a long day for everyone so I'm going to make a fairly basic acknowledgement here and then follow up as facts and options become clearer (presumably tomorrow.) Many thanks to those of you who enjoyed most of the days events and my apologies for the temporary staff intrusion in this future celebratory thread.

We're constantly tweaking and recoding the order allocation process to allow for features of each woot site. We definitely like pushing the envelope -- we know features and events such as this are important to our members. Several things popped up here at once due to recent evolutions of the site. The "ordered already" messaging was indeed a main process glitch - a normal woot sale rule that we expected to be dropped from the multi-part release code apparently did not execute as planned. That combined with a very unexpected bottleneck in the reservation system on releases 2 and 3 allowed for an unprecedented number of members to have both been in queue before and then subsequently stopped from getting in line for release 4.

A few minor points to make: The total sum of units awarded didn't change due to these glitches - the misfortune of some very early in the process led to the success of others also very early but who otherwise would have been too late. Remember, receiving the 'already ordered' message did not indicate that you would have been positioned in the queue to "win" but that you were stopped from entering this queue for a chance to "win".

So to boil it down we're aware of some unfairness in the outcome and we will be investigating what data we have on who was affected (and of course what the problems were so we can fix them). I believe that we will have data sources tied to your account that will enable us to see the scope of the issue and communicate with those affected proactively (there should be no need to email member services or post here). I and other staff will be exploring some hopefully fun solutions.

After 4 years of expansion and evolution, we have made a lot of mistakes as well as a lot of progress. While it's certainly frustrating when we backslide or fai l to recognize new issues before they happen, we intend to continue applying our resources to best bring you entertaining events. We're often at our best coming up with creative solutions to challenging problems.

Thanks - and sorry again for the staff interjection - if necessary I'll announce and create a new thread to resolve the split interests here.

Let the wild rumpus resume.

Thanks for chiming in. I (and probably many others) appreciate the proactive position you are taking, and keeping us "in the loop".

I suppose one way to identify some of the affected would be to manually comb the forums from yesterday. I think that's where you'll find the bulk of us... Next is in the emails you received (you got mine, right? That's the one where I pissed and moaned, and then grovelled and begged.)

I don't envy you guys right now....

I think the problem with that is that some people may have had that glitch but they would have been too late to get one anyway... What they need to figure out is who would have gotten a B O C if the glitch would not have prevented them from doing so... Sounds like a tough thing to do. I am thinking a "Sorry our bad and better luck next time!" would be the best ending to this.

I was "in the queue" after the 2nd one. Never got anything other than the note about "if someone else gets denied...". I managed to (or tried to) get in on the next one, but it just hung on the processing page. Nothing ever happened - no "you already ordered" message, nothing. The fact that all 4 segments were considered 1 Woot makes me wonder - how in all fairness can someone get the 3rd or 4th one if I was still "in the queue" for the 2nd? If people were still in the queue, they should have been serviced from the balance of the 6000 bags offered...
