You don't know my wife very well. She buys clothes/jewelery/shoes/etc. for her self all year round. I can't pick that junk out. She specifically asked for it, so I ordered it.
I already have one of these and it rocks. Luv, luv, luv it. And we never say the "V" word anymore. I have a date with my Dyson. Although, I must admit it isn't used as much anymore now that I have my two Woot Roombas running around 3 times a week. But there is always a need for my Dyson: Curtains, cat/dog cushions, and my non-Rooba rooms. My fave thing about it is that it doesn't blow air out the sides of the unit to throw fur all over the room on hard surfaces. Those wooly fur orbs stay in place until Dyson downs 'em! But better than that? I LOVE the story description! Great read! Thanks Woot!
I used to work for a vacuum store. Trust me when I tell you, most consumers don't know what the hell they are talking about. Dyson has one thing most vacuums dont, and thats great marketing. That being said, this vacuum is terrible. Its no different than a cheap $50 vacuum except you don't have to use a bag.. hell ,you can get $50 vacuums now that have attachments and no bag. If you really care about the cleanliness of your house, you can buy a Kirby from Ebay for a few hundred more than this piece of junk. Kirbys in my opinion, are the only vacuums that actually do what we expect a vacuum to do, and thats pick up dirt.
Got one this AM. Hope our Roomba won't be jealous. Maybe they'll get together and give us some little ones.
nbod87 wrote:Ok, so you don't want a bag of "PUFF" dust. yet, when you remove the bag from your vacuume, it puffs some anyway. then you put the bag of dirt into your trash can...and anything you put in after it makes it puff more. the claim to fame for Dyson is "Never Loses Suction" not PUFF FREE DISPOSAL. The facts are there..Dyson doesn't lose suction, although bagged vacuums do. they are only good for about 1/4 of a bag before you see serious loss of suck. Vacuums SUCK the better the vacuum, the Higher the suck level. as far as i have heard. Dyson is the vacuum with uber suck qualities
The puff is much less than the mess you get when empyting a full bag. Just stick the cannister into the garbage can and close it immediatly and then you have no puff at all. Get a bin with a lid.

Probably already married - it'll be 20 years next May. I told my hubby I wanted a shop-vac for Christmas...did he get it?? No, he's allergic to Home Depot... I like the frilly stuff too, but when I have work to do, I want the tools to do it properly.

K, here's whatcha do: Use the Dyson for your regular vacuuming and then getchu an old vacuum from a yard sale for like 5 bucks. Then, when the Dyson ruins your carpet, just tell the company that the old Hoover did it. How the heck do they know what vacuum you are using, anyways? And what about those of us who buy new stuff every few years? What if we rotated in a Dyson at one point? This rumor makes me laugh every time, too.
hcramer56 wrote:Yes! It matters. I did not know this until I got a bagless vacuum. Do NOT get a bagless vacuum. Here's why: the bagless vacuums have two filters AFTER the initial cyclone drop area in the canister. These are normal filters that they do not tell you about exactly. One is the HEPA filter and there is usually another filter before the HEPA filter. So, when you go to empty the dirt, you drop it into the trash basket and PUFF a big cloud of dust arises. AND, you have not cleaned the other two filters yet. Also, that trash basket will go PUFF every time you drop anything else into it because it is full of PUFF dust. So, you clean the vacuum and then you get rid of the trash basket bag. So, you now have a "bag" of dirt which you could have had in the first place with a bag-vacuum. To clean the other two filters, you have to take it apart somewhat. This is usually not so easy to do. Then, if you have not done this often, the filter is stuck with dirt and it takes a tooth brush and about 20 minutes to get the dirt out of this and the 2nd filter because it is impregnated into the filter because you didn't clean these filters too each time. Or, you open your BAG vacuum, take out the bag, drop it into the trash and you're done. I like the bag because it is easy, clean and works and nothing more to do. hcramer
That is how Hoover bagless models work but with the Dyson you lower the canister into your trash can, pull a lever the bottom opens up and the dirt fall out of the bottom and does NOT create a PUFF of dirt. Regarding the filters, the Dyson filter only needs to be cleaned once every six months. The hover I had the filter needed to be cleaned constantly. Get this Dyson it is great!

that's a huge relief becuase I've got three major carpet warrenty claims pending! The one for my 2X8 runner could end up in litigation

He came to my Engineering Orientation class as a guest speaker. I was extremely impressed by the way they test their products/beat at them to find weak spots and constantly make an effort to improve their product. I don't think these vacuums are more likely to break. Dyson breaks alot of their vacuums through those tests(anything would through those tests) so I imagine they would then refurbish them. They also take customer's opinions more to heart than other companies do. I'm under the impression that when something is wrong with a customer's vacuum Dyson will actually replace it and refurbish the original unlike most companies that try to ignore the problem hence why there are so many refurbished dyson vacuums. What kind of customer service experiences have you guys had with dyson(good and bad)?

I bought a Dyson Root (the hand held) from the BX and the charge wasn't lasting very long in the battery. I called them up, explained the problem, they had me do a couple things with the machine and then sent me a new charging station. Sure enough that was the problem and it works just fine now. AND they even had a prepaid return box with a little note that said their engineering department would like to review the charger for defects and I sent it back to them. So, do I know if it went to their engineering department and not the "warranty bin" nope, but either way I had no problems with getting my issue resolved.
We got our Dyson about 2 years ago. It cost $450.00, and we love it. I'll never go with a different brand again, but I may shop around next time hoping for a better deal like this one.

DonaldWilliams wrote:Rubbish! I read their warranty. It says nothing of the kind.
all the shaw warranty says is follow the Shaw “Carpet Care and Maintenance” instructions. these state
Vacuum frequently for long-term beauty The most important step in caring for your carpet is vacuuming it thoroughly and frequently, particularly in high-traffic areas. Walking on soiled carpet allows the soil particles to work their way below the surface of the pile where they are far more difficult to remove and can damage the carpet fibers. Frequent vacuuming removes these particles from the surface before problems occur. For rooms with light traffic, vacuum the carpet traffic lanes twice weekly and the entire area once weekly. In areas with heavy traffic, vacuum the carpet traffic lanes daily and the entire area twice weekly. Up to three passes of the machine will suffice for light soiling, but five to seven passes are necessary for heavily soiled areas. Change the vacuuming direction occasionally to help stand the pile upright and reduce matting. Extend the life of your carpet with a quality vacuum An inexpensive machine may remove surface dirt but will not effectively remove the hidden dirt and particles embedded in the pile. Invest in a good vacuum cleaner to get the dirt you can't see and prolong the beauty and life of your carpet. To ensure that your vacuum will conform to the highest industry standards, make sure that your vacuum cleaner is certified through the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Seal of Approval/Green Label Vacuum Cleaner Program. Visit www.carpet-rug.org for details and listings. Select the best vacuum for your type of carpet Shaw recommends using vacuums with a rotating brush or combination beater/brush bar that agitates the carpet pile and mechanically loosens soil for removal. Carpet with thick loop pile construction, particularly wool and wool-blend styles, may be sensitive to brushing or rubbing of the pile surface and may become fuzzy. In addition, shag (or cabled) styles with long pile yarns tend to wrap around the rotating brushes causing damage to the yarn. For these products, Shaw recommends a suction-only vacuum or a vacuum with an adjustable brush lifted away from the carpet so it does not agitate the pile. Be sure to test a vacuum with a beater/brush bar in an inconspicuous location before regular use, to make sure it doesnt produce excessive fuzzing.
well you see, my three maids don't really get along so I have to buy each of them their own equipment and label it with little gold silver and green stars and glitter glue pens.
Pretty good for me. When I got my Dyson from Woot it had one piece busted on the hose attachment. I called them up, gave them my serial number and they sent me out the part. This is my second DC07 as I lost the first one in a divorce. I loved the old one and figure I'll love this one. I would really like to know the difference between the DC07 and DC14 though besides how they look.

grimor wrote:wow, a kirby salesman that bought their own hype
True, Why would I buy something that I can only get if invite a high-pressure sales person to my house? I actually went through the Kirby salesperson orientation years ago and had to quit when they told us that we had to generate our own leads (pressure everyone you know). The ones on Ebay are probably from relatives of salespeople who were pressured into buying a Kirby.
I have great difficulty believing this. Here's why: I did a lot of research, I mean a *lot* of research when I bought my last vacuum. I didn't *want* to believe that Dyson was significantly better than any other bagless vacuum. I was sure I could find a cheap vac at Wally-World that would do just as well. But here's the thing; I looked at literally dozens and dozens of reviews for every type of vacuum, and not once did I see someone who owned both a Kirby and a Dyson say the Kirby was better. I saw many, many people express remorse over the money they had spent on the Kirby, but never did I see a person say "I wish I had my Kirby back" or "after using a Kirby, I'll never consider another Dyson." It was virtually always the other way around. Call it expert marketing if you will, but I will tell you that I'm one who scoffed at their marketing. I'm the first to be skeptical about any product's marketing claims. Nope, it was those testimonials from those consumers you discount that made me actually look at this product and consider spending what is for me an outrageous amount of money for a product of this type. And I did. And they were right. I've never seen anything clean like this.
Kirby's are the most absurd over-price vacuums on the market. I used one for 3 weeks and would take my dc07 over it any day.
By the way, she's bouncing, so if any of y'all are still on the fence, I'd say make yer choice soon.
I bought a reconditioned Dyson D-15 from Woot last year. It arrived broken and smelled horrible when used. I had to ship it to Dyson twice (at their expense) to get it fixed. Dyson did eventually fix the problem but only after a lot of hassle and having them explain to me that they ship some of their reconditioned units still broken. I wouldn't do it again.
can anyone tell me, reconditioned scares the heck out of me! i have been wanting one of these for a long time,is there a return policy ? i have 3 dogs and i really need alot of suction power,is this it? thanks for any advise..........................
greezyg wrote:consumr reports says these arent so great
Consumer Reports is full of $%&*. We went by their report and bought the recommended Hoover. It was junk and was forever "hopelessly clogged". And the real test was after purchasing a Dyson "Animal" and vacuuming the same carpet that the Hoover "clean" indicator said was clean. We filled half of the dust bin of the Dyson of the "Hoover Clean" rug. Consumer Reports is all about consumer surveys that are suspect and based on people who pay for the publication or access to their website. BUY THIS VACUUM!!
WOW....does anyone even go to a Vacuum Store these days? Are there Vacuum Stores? I tried the one on the web (http://www.vacuum.com)....It sucked.
mail4lisa wrote:can anyone tell me, reconditioned scares the heck out of me! i have been wanting one of these for a long time,is there a return policy ? i have 3 dogs and i really need alot of suction power,is this it? thanks for any advise..........................
I've ordered 3 of these from woot (well DC07's anyway, would of rather had one of these) and all of them arrived in perfect condition, no signs of use at all. Only way you could tell it was recon'd is that it said it on the box.
If reconditioned really scares you, pay the extra $350 and get a new one. Otherwise, it has a six month warranty, and even the one person who complained about having to get theirs fixed did end up with a working unit. By the way, many these sold today will be reselling on e-Bay for $75 - $150 more plus 30 or 40 bucks shipping as soon as certain wooters get their hands on them.
If you check out "what is woot" on the top of the page, most questions are answered. This product has a 6 month manufacturer warranty, Woot is pretty hands-off. Here is the Woot return policy: How do I return a defective product? Unless we specifically tell you not to, call the manufacturer of the product you bought. You will likely get a replacement of a new model or better item from them. If we still haven't dissuaded you, email rma@woot.com with your woot order number, the name of the product you are returning, and the detailed problem with the item. We will respond with return authorization by the next business day. Because we aren't likely to have a replacement in stock, you should be prepared for a refund-only option if that's all we can do. Know that return freight will be at your expense. Again, you will probably get a better deal from the manufacturer, or whoever else handling member service for that product.

Yay first post!! I've got the DC14 Animal. Best vacuum I've ever had, and I've owned a Kirby.
I've had my DC07 for just over 5 years now and I love it. Very tempting although I'd very much like to try out some of the Dyson's rivals these days. 5 years ago the Dyson kicked everyone's butt, but it's been mega catch up time for many of the other companies.
in the "I vacuumed with _blank and then used _blank and look at all the dirt it missed" type of tests, they are mostly used as a marketing gimmick. No vacuum that I have ever seen will get all of the dirt from a carpet that has been installed for any length of time. So whichever vacuum you use last will most always seem to be the winner. Dirt sifts into the carpet and actually through it into the padding and floor underneath. Apart from pulling up the carpet there is very little that can be done to completely clean a carpet. Also, each vacuum pass breaks more fibers loose in the carpet and kicks up a bit more dust and dirt buried inside. This is not to say that some vacuums don't actually clean better than others, but this type of test is generally not a good way of proving the effectiveness of one over the other. If you want to test it, vacuum your carpet with the dyson, clean it out completely and then go over the same carpet again. Look how much it missed! the Dyson is obviously superior to the Dyson lol
