A friend of mine has also made this, and he says that using a quality dark soy sauce makes a huge difference. He used lighter stuff to give to his kids, and it was still good, but nowhere near as yummy as with the darker stuff. His looked much darker, and the sauce was more apparent.

Shouldn't, I don't think. It was one of the earlier ones, might have to check the archive for the first week of January--should be a drop down on the left-hand navigation.
If you can't find it, I'll send it to you this evening from the house (can't see blogs from work either).

Hmmm...neither. I'd forgotten about that. Cumin scented buffalo kebabs. Recipe called for beef, I swapped in buffalo instead.

pooflady wrote:Ground buffalo? And that doesn't fall off the skewers while you're grilling?
Wasn't ground. Sorry, I was thinking of something completely different.
The picture is of the kebabs, and it's buffalo steak tips.
The ground pork was in ants on a branch.

ants on a log is peanut butter on celery sticks with raisins on top. Learned that gem in Kindergarten.
And I still like it!
Ground pork, green beans, in a soy based ginger-garlic sauce. Modification of a recipe from someone's childhood, ants on a rope (noodle).
Ants on a branch
4 T peanut oil
1 1/4 pound green beans, rinsed, cleaned, trimmed, cut to 3/4-1 1/4 inch section
1 T minced fresh ginger
1 T minced garlic
1/2 t flakes crushed red pepper
1/2 pound ground pork
1/3 c chicken stock
2 T soy sauce
1 T rice vinegar
1 1/2 t corn starch
1/4 c thin sliced green onion
Rice
Heat the peanut oil in a large pan. Add ginger, garlic and pepper. Cook, stirring often, for 3 minutes. Add pork, brown fully, stirring to break into small pieces. Add green beans, cook for 5-7 minutes, until beans begin to soften, stirring occasionally. Combine stock, soy sauce, vinegar, and corn starch. Whisk to mix. Add to pan, stir, cook until thickened slightly. Serve over rice, top with sliced green onions.

Fennel Hash, fried egg and bacon.
For dinner.
The hash was the 'new', but this is also my third and fourth fried egg, ever--hubbin got the first two. Guess I should practice frying eggs!

Yeah--getting the eggs done over easy is the practice-needed part! :D

Butter pecan ice cream with hot caramel drizzled (poured) on top. And whipped cream too!

Made old fashioned Italian meat-a-balls like gramma's.
Ground sirloin and bulk Italian sausage, all the right seasonings.
When husband came home he said it smelled like my gramma's house, and I was so pleased.
Served them in home-canned tomato puree. Yeah, I'm old-school.

Leftover lentil soup. I like lentil soup, but forget how much it makes! 2 dinners, and at least 5 lunches...and there's still some in the fridge.

pooflady wrote:Just steamed some broccoli in a Zip'N Steam bag. Yum. Husband (not a broccoli fan) is complaining of the smell.
Broccoli is one of the crops that's grown locally. Driving around the fields when it's being harvested is STINKY! Not as bad as cauliflower or brussel sprouts, but still, pretty odiferous.
I like driving through the fields just before the sweet pea harvest--heady stuff!
