The positive and negative comments so far are, interestingly enough, all correct. This is indeed a good price and if you need an all-in-one printer, then go for it. But the poster who talked about decreased ink is also right--recently HP has greatly decreased the amount of ink it puts in carts, especially the ones included with the units. You'll be needing to buy new ink very shortly after you start using it. Then when you go to the store you'll find two levels of cart for sale--"Normal" and "High capacity" and as you can guess the latter is what they really used to sell as "normal" and costs more whereas the former is the price that most people will pay at the big box stores 'cos everyone is cheap nowadays. Best advice is to change the settings in your printer driver to always print in "Draft" quality; you'll save lots of ink and rarely will see a need to go back to "full quality".

Wow - an obvious reefurb and to think I can actually pay $5 more than thenerds dot net has it for an every day price. AND on top, with ownership of this printer I'll be blessed with the priveledge of buying $40-$50 refills. NO THANKS

I have a lot of respect for the guy(s) that do the witty verbage and write up each new woot product, but damn have some self-respect and instead of reselling carp (especially lately!) instead just tell us "well we got nothing today ..."

Stop selling overpriced reefurb bags o'krap, woot.

Not true! You can print full page photos just fine.

BTW, I originally got one of these to test with when I was developing software for HP. Even my pre-production model still runs great. I highly recommend this thing.

Cnet reviews for some reason are popular... they always make one of the first results on google's toplist. It's likely because they review a lot of stuff, and probably do it faster than other people.

I have to put in to question the level of rigor used in their reviews. They are usually a few paragraphs long - they rarely go deep into the product - and they never present the whole picture. They just say stuff like "poor quality" without commenting on other products for comparison.

You want the HP 56 cartridge. It holds double the ink per cartridge that the 27 does.

If you check the Newegg page for this product. The description says nothing about networking, HOWEVER, the photo pages indicate that there is only USB.

The only problem is, with this one, there is no "High Capacity" cartridge! The photo cartridge just takes the place of the black one, with black/light red/light blue...but you're still a slave to the 5ml tri-color thing.

I bought two of these from Amazon a year ago for EXACTLY $100. It was $100 for one, with a $50 rebate. This price is not bad, but wait a little while, "they" are coming out with faster and better printer. This one works great! No problem with it yet. Scans, copies, and print awesomely. Not as fast, but hassle-free. Ink is not use as much. Guess what? I bought black and color ink refills from INK-REFILL-INK website for $50 total. This stuff is so awesome, because I honestly print everyday because I am a hard-ass. working college student and the ink refills has lasted for a year now and it is half-full! I really saved like $200 on ink this year..maybe more. But those ink refills in Walmart and Office Max are expensive as hell. They're like $25 a piece. So thats $50 for 2 or 3 months. I talk too much...damn. Imma shut up now. Hope the review helped. Peace out bitches...llo. Sorry, my little brother wanted to add in that last comment.

digitalmonkeyman wrote:OK, I meant ink, ink is a form of toner?

Toner is micronfine particles of plastic. In order to use it, you need a fuser (hot rollers) at the end of the printing stream to melt and bind it to the paper.

Ink is water based.

I would say this printer is going to use as much ink as your standard HP inkjet style printer. If you look at this url http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/product_detail.do?product_code=Q7311A%23ABA&tab=accessories&aoid=5504&lang=en&cc=us you will find the HP price for an ink cartridge is $17.99. They are also selling the printer for $109.99.

For the price, this is a stunning deal. It's got a document feeder, fer cryin' out loud. AND a fax machine. And the software works great on a Mac.

Cons: a little bit slower than a pure printer for this price. Print quality is just a teeny bit worse. Paper tray doesn't hold much paper. No duplexer option. No card slots, if anyone cares (I don't). Oh yeah, it doesn't go to sleep and wake up when you print, like my HP 5550 does.

HPs are wonderful printers. I've never had a problem with them.

Just watch out for the cost of the ink.

You can get a brand new one at Sams Club for $78. Newegg has them for $89.99

I've always had good luck with HP printers. the cheep all-in-ones like this are outstanding for the Satellite of Love user who might only need to print off one thing a month and copy something every couple of months (when you need to copy something you f'ing need to copy it). With other brands I've always had problems with leaking carts and broken feeders.

Now, if you need to print/scan/copy something every day then things get a bit murky and you are better off in the long run with a higher quality one that costs over 200. With cheep printers the cost of ink becomes to high if you try to do too much
