When the derby was announced, I said that this stipulation would be the one that got most people rejected. It's extremely broad and ambiguous and it really depends on interpretation. That's why I was extremely specific in the description of my entry.

Many of the rejections were probably made because the rejectionator didn't see the theme clearly and the description supplied wasn't very helpful. There are still plenty of unrejected designs that I'd say are rejection worthy, but they must have done some good explaining in their description.

Edit: On the flip side, there are some rejected entries that I think fit the theme fine, but they must not have given a very good description at all.

I read the rules just fine.

yes. there were some rejected that seemed to be completely on the green theme, and then others that stayed where I can't find a green theme anywhere.

meanwhile, I am far too annoyed by the whole thing with warholbot recycling woot shirts into threadless and threadless shirts into woot. the guy clearly has talent, he should be using it appropriately rather than breaking rules.

gah.

it's also obscenely hot here and I have a fever. that might be making me more grouchy than usual. maybe. I'm glad there are some fun shirts and comments to make me crack a smile. When it's too hot to wear a woot shirt, methinks there's a problem

Hi folks,

No I'm not gone for good, but I did think about it.
I'm bummed that eHalcyon didn't make it
I'm bummed that rejection depends on who you are and how much they like you
I'm bummed that jimiyo is gone.
I'm bummed that I have this hand issue that is preventing me from typing well or designing good shirts.

I'm happy that I have friends here
I'm happy that my designs are well received, and that I can occasionally do something great
I'm happy that we have dodgeball, puppies, puckers, Manhattans, fish, monkeys, and chops to share
I'm happy that I have a good chance of getting a grant if I can just make the deadline
I'm happy that I hacked off the cast 2 weeks early and now can use my hand again.

..so yes, I left because I had work to do, and was unable to post. Also, I was a bit bummed out at the time. But as you can see, the happies beat the bums, so I can't stay away

Keep the CyberPub warm until I return

yay! there is much rejoicing. puppies are the bestest.

I'm not sure I want to think about someone hacking off their cast early.

as a fellow north-easterner, I am happy for air conditioning during the heat wave.

I found our backup camera, so I'll entertain everyone with a puppy pic of my own soon. he's getting big tho.

in the mean time I was Inspired by Bluchez's off-the-cuff idea for pictographs to explain the Derby rules, so here's my do and don't instructions for the Green derby:

Thanks! Yeah, in the middle of big job. Taking 10 minutes off to check on my shirt design (tanking). Fair enough. Thinking of two others, but not having the time: the first was the animal design, and I just didn't think it was good enough. THe other was an old fish design I had, but with a goldfish wiping a hole in the algae with his fin and peering out (he'd be orange, everything else would be shades of algae green). I dunno...

oooh, I totally want to see the goldfish with algae. very green, and sounds like a perfect design from you. I voted and commented on the batteries - love the audience

I know you'll pull through- but you got my support. Part of the negative on a self-imposed exile is you can't commune with others having just a rough time as you... sigh...

I'll see if I can get that other submitted tonight and get some votes as a late entry.

Haven't begged for votes for a while, let's see if it still sucketh to beg.

=======================================================

Rookie Dads are so much fun!

Webster's Online Dictionary includes a definition for green: "deficient in training, knowledge, or experience (b) deficient in sophistication and savoir faire : naive (c) not fully qualified for or experienced in a particular function" In this case, because of his inexperience, Dad has inadvertently let Baby run off before getting dressed. Green Dads are so much fun to play with!

@Andy - Eep. I did not mean to imply what I implied. Bah, foot in my mouth. I apologize, and if I may clarify, all I really wanted to say was that I think the rejections are based on the descriptions provided by the artist when they submit and the rejectionator's interpretation of each piece, which obviously does not match our own.

@mia - Hope that fever comes down. Maybe it's because I'm Canadian, but I prefer the extreme cold to the extreme heat. We get both here, but the summer heat hasn't arrived just yet... Also, I really like the multiple green concepts in your flower design, and I'm digging the way you wove the leaves around the treehouse. You're getting better every week!

@Skek - I'm not too bummed about being beaten by three great designs. Maybe I'm not as jaded as the rest of you (yet), but I think the rejections depend on the descriptions given when submitting, which we don't get to read. I AM bummed that jimiyo is gone, and that schrobble is mostly gone, and that you can't design like you usually do. I'm happy that you are happy. I'm not going to win this week. Lost momentum and I'm not even in the fog now. C'est la vie. Your goldfish reminds me of the pocket fish... I really like the way you put together the piece though. It took just a second to click.

@no1 - naked brocolli isn't pg-13. You get a vote though.

That's ok, I'll be bummed for you. And thanks for making the connection between the pocket fish and this week's design. Yes, it's supposed to be the same fish. The original design I used as a basis for this one was called "The Fish Is Free"... it was the "out of the bag and in the tank" post-design I never submitted but showed around a week after the pocket one got reckoned.

I wasn't around back then.

Also, is it just me, or is there a lot more drama in the forums this week compared to other weeks? I mean, there's always drama, but this week seems just a bit excessive.
