720p Sample video - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SBBCSJQE
"Video seems to be recorded at 1MB/sec, so this 26 sec clip is 26 megs. The quicktime mpeg4 seems to do a decent job at compressing the file. During movement there seems to be some macroblocking, but at 720p it's not too annoying. Zoom during recording is nice, makes a little noise that you can hear if it is quiet. Auto focus does a pretty good job, and it looks like white balance autoadjusts as well. I figured since the camera advertised digital stabiliation that it also applied to video, but apparently it does not. Odd thing is when recording it looks like it does have some stabilization, but playing the file back directly after it seems more jerky. Hopefully it's a feature they plan on adding in a later firmware upgrade. Battery time is pretty decent. The original non-rechargables they supplied lasted a day and a half, but I was fooling with the camera on and off all day. Rechargables seem to have a pretty decent life."

No IS so I'm going to hold off but 12MP + 720p for this price ain't too bad! Prices on ALL digicams have been dropping like crazy.

Review on Steve's Digicams was good, and that was last December when street price was around $229.

Getting it. I don't have a digital camera and I've needed one for the longest time. Time to get ANOTHER SD card. (I already have like 6 amongst all my devices)

Lack of viewfinder vacuums, but oh well. I have rechargeable AAs, too. Now to get a good camera case. (Or ask for one for my birthday)

The only reason I'm not getting this is because of the AA's....I had a camera a few years ago that took regular batteries and it was such a PITA to change them all the time. This looks like a solid camera though, and very cheap!

Changing AA's is easier than changing any other kind of battery you're going to have in a camera!!

For sample vids, go to vimeo.com and search for Z1275. Quite a few samples on there. Heck, I might buy it just for the video.

llo. I guess it was just because I was in H.S. and didn't have money to buy AAs all the time =P

I've been looking for a digicam to take with me to college this fall, and this is by far the best deal I've seen so far. In for one, thanks Woot!

- Good/cheap P&S
- Decent low-light pics
- Decent high-speed/high-light pics
- The 720p video sounds badass!
- high optical zoom (don't give a damn about digital zoom)
- I can survive with less than 12MP (4-6MP is all I really need)

Given these things, is this a decent camera? If not, what others around the $100 mark should I consider? I'm not in a huge rush as I still have an old 3.2MP camera laying around to use in the mean time (an old Fujifilm FinePix from like 10 years ago), so if the best recommendation is to keep watching Woot for another model, that's acceptable to me.

If you're looking for good low-light pictures, you're probably going to have to pay more than $100 for a camera. High ISO + lots of MPs = TONS of noise. They're cramming too many sensors on too small of a chip. Which means a decrease in quality. Even my $500 Canon G9 doesn't do too well over 400 ISO. And a lot of higher end cameras I looked at didn't do too well over 200 ISO even. So...if you don't care about the noise, you'll be fine. If you want a clear picture, you'll have to pay up.

What good is the ISO settings all the way up to 3200?
Are they really usable in low light that would be the reason for that?
On other cameras the picture gets too grainy and noisy even at ISO400.

I have this camera - pics come out really nice - especially outside shots and there is a children setting to capture my kids quickly which is nice. Write time is about average with the extreme 3 SD card - the fastest card I could find.
Cons: eats batteries very fast and the video at HD setting is choppy even with the fast extreme 3 SD card. Plus the image is very shaky. But then really who takes video with a digital camera and expects good quality.
Overall I think this is a good deal.

I bought this same model camera 4/7/2008 for $99. It was Dead On Arrival. I sent it back to Precision Camera, the official Kodak repair facility, at a cost of 9 bucks. I got it back 2 weeks later, and it died 3 days later (the lens extends all the way out, then the blue light goes out.) This time I insisted they pay for the shipping, which was another logistics nightmare - The shipper (DarnStupidLunkheads) admits their guy didn't show up when he was supposed to, then wants me to call Kodak's laughable "customer service" and go through phone tag hell to get another authorization number! Finally they pick it up and once again it goes to Precision Camera and just like clockwork, 2 weeks later I get it back. And of course it dies again in 3 days, same thing with the lens extending... This time, I tell them just give me my money back, but of course that's not an option. The only option is they will send me a different camera, still respiffied, but customer service says this one is different because it is really going to be checked out thoroughly! So, if you still decide to get one, keep all the paperwork, use the same email address all the time when you write to Kodak (and you WILL be writing to them), and keep your paperwork. By the way, the last time Kodak's repair website told me my camera was no longer under warranty, and I'm supposed to have the same 1 year warranty this one comes with!
Last, the pictures were nothing to write home about, either.

If you get a broken item from WOOT and are lucky enough to even get a response, you are luckier than I am. i tried for a month to return a broken item with NO REPLY EVER from woot. I finally had to dispute the charge with my credit card and got a refund. Wooters beware. This IS a discount site after all...

I've had a couple problems here that woot responded quickly to in the past.

But with the last problem that I had a couple weeks ago (broken connector on a refurbished GPS), I sent several e-mails to woot about it, but they all went ignored.

Sick deal, I'm in for one. I haven't Wooted anything for a while, but this deal seems pretty damn good. I've seen the complaints, but overall the reviews seem to be pretty good, and the HD video examples look pretty sweet too. The battery issue can be a pain in the ass, but to get this camera, at this discount price, with a 1yr warranty... I think I can tolerate the hassle.

I'm concerned about cameras like this that are advertised with 10-12 megapixels. I feel like there are more expensive cameras out there with fewer megapixels; I have to assume that the ratio of price to megapixels is not exactly 1:1.

I also bought this camera back when it was $99. Where it really shines is with video. For the price, it takes great video at 1280 x 720 at 30 fps, in a tiny, fit in your pocket form. I use it for snowboarding in the winter and the video is quite nice, much better than my old pocket sony W1. Also, at $79 you can afford to take it anywhere to capture those epic moments without fear of ruining your expensive digital SLR or nice still camera that you are afraid to get wet, dirty, sat on, broken, smashed, lost, or stolen. The still images are nothing to write home about (not nearly as nice as my 5 megapixel Sony W1 or 6 megapixel Fuji S7000) but are good enough for everyday shooting. Buy this if you want a decent, rugged little pocket camera to document how hard you play!
