It's full Of carp and some nice things to.
Sometimes a camera sometimes a respiffied
sometimes a cheap plastic kazoo

Gotta be careful on "refurbished" items (until they "standardize" that term).

AGAIN, if it's a FACTORY "respiffied" or "recert," GO FOR IT!

I also am not sure the color is up to snuff. With my Panasonic Lumix LZ5, I shot normal pictures, and post-corrected them with a grey card (http://www.pictureflow.com), with slight differences in color. The Kodak has a lot of difference in color and tends to overexpose the grey card (doh!); to get quality prints, you have to color-correct even pictures taken outside in the daytime. The shots are OK, but once you use a grey card, it's amazing what the subtle difference in color can do for a picture.

Very nice post. FWIW, I'm a pro photog. You're better off using a white piece of paper for manual WB, that way the camera knows what white is. A (18%) gray card is used for setting exposure.

Yes Leica is superb glass, as is Zeiss, but Schneider is the best-of-the-best. However, this is probably a rebadged Panasonic lens. The Schneider name is only a license. A real Schneider lens would cost several times what a crate of these carppy cameras cost.

My second woot. I'm looking for a cheap SD card now, 2 gigs probably. Anyone got any good sites to buy it from? Just curious, how many vids and/or pix can be stored on the camera's own memory?

to those who have purchased woot products before,

how long does it take normally to receive an item u purchased from woot? it says 5 business days, but can it take longer? Have some received it sooner? And if the item has something wrong with it, are we allowed to return it and get our money back?? I bought the camera lastnight, but while reading all these comments, im getting scared it might not be so great.

I have received some items almost overnight and some items I ended up getting refunded cause it never showed up. Only problem is if they use smart post and smart post gets a wild hair up its butt and send it all over the country before you get it.

Me too! I can't wait. I've stolen some rechargeable batt's from my grocery store, and I'm ready to test drive this thing!

...I'm a compulsive shoplifter. :/
I'm just glad Woot! has deals good enough that I don't have to steal more!

Got mine tonight... it came with a box that says "factory reconditioned" so it is a factory respiffied job! I took a bunch of pics tonight just playing and it is going to be great for a point and shoot-type camera. Yeah, the delay after you take the pic is annoying, but for an inexpensive camera, I can't complain much. So far, so good (and for everyone that said it eats batteries... you understated it's appetite! oh, my goodness!! after 30 minutes, I needed new batteries!)

I'm really glad to hear that it's factory respiffed. Hopefully that'll lessen my chance of getting a lemon... as for the other two annoyances, I'm prepared! I hope this camera can make me happy.

If the after pic "lag" people are referring to here is the just taken pic remaining on the LCD, it's doing that to give you time to delete or mark it. All you have to do to skip this is push down the shutter switch again and release. The camera will then be ready to take another pic. Post processing/compression will still take place but the camera will place subsequent shots in buffer.

Huh. I'll have to try this trick once I get it, because this lag was giving me some worries.

Just got it and spent awhile taking lots of pictures. I'm using NiMH rechargeable batt's, but the "Kodak Digital Camera" battery that came with was completely dead.

I dig this camera! It takes great pictures; the focus in macro leaves something to be desired, but it'll be a great point-and-shoot.

I used 2650 mah rechargeable batteries. I was taking HD video, after 17 min, power was out. I don't know mine is normal or defective. It is battery eating monster. By the way, when I first turn it on using rechargeable, it just turn on and off immediately. However, when I use kodak alkaline battery which comes with the package, it was fine.

got mine, seemed to work fine but when i try to zoom the d*mn thing shuts off. Kodak will repair but you have to pay shipping. if you read woot policy, they say they rarely have replacement products, you have to accept refund only, but once again you have to pay to get it to them. with the number of defective item posts already being made, sounds like they sold as many broken as good. woot community needs to stand up and demand problem be taken care of on their dime!

I agree I just got mine today and was very excited only to open it up and have the damn thing not turn on for more than 10 seconds. Now it turns on and extends the lens orange light flashes and then the lens goes right back in. Every time, multiple batteries, regular AA's rechargeable NIMH's. I will be sending it to Kodak but from what I've been reading online it seems like this is a very prevalent issue and I don't really think Kodak will be able to fix this.

Is there a way to alert woots attention to this issue?

I emailed the service email a few minutes ago. Mine is stuck out for good now. I can't even get enough juice for it to retract the lens. I tried all included batteries, fresh rechargables, fresh non-rechargables, and all did the same thing. Blue light on top comes on for a second, I hear a noise in the camera, and then nothing.

Really frustrating stuff, I am moving from my current address in a week and a half too so I can just see this whole RMA thing being a major fiasco.

email, email, email!! return, return, return! let woot know that selling defective items is unacceptable! when this many items are shipped out fefective, woot should accept the cost of returns. granted the price was low, but $85 for a paper weight is high. Paying return shipping is additional money i did not agree to!! in my recent experience, more and more "deals" sites are shipping out junk banking on lazy consumers not returning items.

[FOr the battery, I tried to use Duracell NIMH 2650 today. Someone in previous discussion for this camera suggest to use DURACELL 2650 battery. It is a miracle. It is going very strong, I am taking at 1 hour 720P video now. I guess that it will take more. Thank you for letting me know. This battery is must have for this camera.

Arrived today, working OK, so far, so good. Some comments, and questions:

It came with two Kodak NiMH batteries, which I didn't see at first, so I installed a pair of Kodak NiMH batteries which we already had. It's working OK with them, fingers crossed.

Questions:

1: My wife says that the USB plug is NOT a standard size -- she says it's smaller than the one on her Olympus, which I had believed to be the smallest USB incarnation. Does anyone know the deal with this? If we need to replace the cord at some point, will we need to buy a "special" Kodak-only USB cord (at a "special" price)? Is there some *standard* USB cord with this size connector?

2: Does anyone know what kind of wall-wart this would take? (I didn't see anything about it in the manual, maybe I need to read it again? If it's there, can someone tell me what page it's on?)

3: Does the wall-wart charge the batteries, or only power the camera?

4: A biggie -- is there ANY way to use it in video mode WITHOUT having to constantly hold down the button on top of the camera? (Is there some secret sequence that puts it in "run until stopped" mode, or an electronic cable release that can do the trick?)

5: The camera came with a docking adapter. Does anyone know what else is needed to use this, and what benefits it would provide?

Thanks in advance for any help with these questions!

In all fairness, I think there are about a half-dozen people who got DOAs (I count "worked for a day and then died" as DOA) in this thread, out of over five *thousand* of the cameras sold (5,280), so I suspect that the vast majority of them are working fine.
