Amazing. I had this on my Christmas list for myself and went out to their website so I could forward the link to my son to buy it for me. The Cliquemart site was down or timed out so I wondered if they were still in business. Then for some strange reason I decided to click on my Woot! bookmark to see what today's deal was - and WHOA, they had 2 HUE HD webcams for half the price of just one. So... I did my first WOOT! today and my own Christmas shopping. Plus I'll give the second one to my 14 year old and we can iChat from upstairs to downstairs.

Though, being as you're new, you'd have no way of knowing where the other stuff ships from. Let me re-phrase: Woot is based out of Texas. They actually have the stuff there when they list it (it doesn't ship from the manufacturer). So, stuff ships out of Texas.

The "iPods" on the site are cheap knock offs, but they don't mind branding it as an Apple iPod Nano... I wonder if the webcams are the same.

These are usually hit or miss type deals. OFten a production went wrong and you might see crazy deals out of China. I bought a HT820 bluetooth stereo headset this way (uber cheap) and it had issues like no firmware upgrade - making it worthless.

With something like this webcam, I probably steer away. With something like a USB mini fan, it might be worth it - heh heh. Just my 3 cents.

Hmm, was concerned with other posts about not being able to download drivers from website. I could not even link to either website "cliquemart.com" or "hue.hd.com" Are they out of business?? Seems a little fishy . . . . Was considering buying, but don't think I will now.

*** Mac User Info***

I was excited to see that this was a mac compatible peripheral. I found a review of this webcam on Amazon from a mac user that wrote a pretty detailed review of this webcam. Here's a link to the amazon page with the review. You'll need to scroll down to read the actual review. I'd recommend any mac user read the review before deciding to make purchase.

The overall review was positive, but this webcam does have one major shortcoming. It's not natively compatible with iChat, but there is an app out there, ichatusbcam, that allows you to use a USB webcam with iChat. If you don't use iChat, then this probably isn't a problem.

Don't think I want to trade my isight in for this quite yet

kpk021 wrote:Are you sure on that? As far as I can tell, the frame rate is a separate spec. Besides, cinema frame rate is 24fps. In PAL countries, it's shown as 25fps. In NTSC countries, 3:2 pulldown is used to convert it to 30fps. 720p is an HDTV spec yet can be at 24, 25, 30, 50, or 60 fps.

15fps is certainly low, but I don't believe as of yet the frame rate is specifically a requirement of HDTV specs. Either that or almost none of us are really watching true HDTV.

Yeah, I would agree that 15 is low but apparantly everyone can call their WebCams HD. Most of them out there seem to just be bragging about the resolution. In fact, I did not see any that were over 30 fps and with some the specs say 'up to 30 fps' which I take to mean 30 fps is probably not what you get at the highest resolution.

Woot linked this under the "Oprah" link in the description. This is also why the site is not working, just like how woot has trouble during a wootoff, a small "manufacturer" has trouble handling 5% percent of the traffic woot gets.

Server Error
The following error occurred:

[code=CANT_CONNECT] Could not connect because of networking problems. Contact your system administrator.
Please contact the administrator.

This means the web server cannot connect to the database server, which is probably running their content management system. It simply crashed under the load and continues to crash when they try to restart it due to the load (you guys) not going away. It has almost no indication of the level of support you can get from the company or how good their drivers are. I can basically guarantee you this site will be up tomorrow.

jeremymahoney wrote:Techgage review

Good idea; you can't trust Oprah any more than you can trust Regis and Kelly on such matters as quality electronics.

Use this code 15450...and you will also get 5% off your first purchase, because the site is run by my good friend from his bedroom.
They sell on ioffer.com as well and you can use Paypal for absolutely no extra insurance from them.

These have the definite air of being fenced stolen goods. Sometimes you can trust the fencer to actually give you the product after payment, sometimes you can't.

Pandawill is selling on their own site and on ioffer; ioffer is based in California and might actually be able to be held more accountable than pandawill. On their own site, pandawill lists their contact as a gmail address, even though any domain host should give you email at your own domain name, and in a pinch gmail can be configured to read email from that account. Also google sells business level access to google apps allowing the setup to be done even more smoothly for say service@pandawill.com.

You will notice that the domain name pandawill.com disappears from the URL on other pages to be replaced with the IP 208.109.124.160. This indicates poor server configuration, or a very cheap setup without support. I wouldn't really trust a very cheaply put together website with prices 4x below the next lowest cost offering free shipping from somewhere that is likely china to anywhere else air mail; that said I got an airmailed circuit board from Hong Kong that seemed to cost the sender 15 cents in USD.

You probably don't want to trade in an iSight; Apple makes iChat free to sell Apple hardware like the iSight and all products with one built in. No manufacturer can make an iSight compatible webcam without paying Apple, and even then, they are likely to shoot down the proposal.

So call Apple and tell them iChat is broken and you want it fixed while it's still under warranty. Record this call and post it on a comedy site. You could become internet famous. Please note I will bill you for 10% of the profits from this idea.

MICROPHONE

It supports audio and video; that means something about having a built in microphone. Its probably not a good microphone.

Not HD... rage

HD isn't an industry standard term. HD doesn't specify the image quality of a webcam nor it's frame rate. It's a term for marketers to foist on suckers.
There's HD audio, HD radio, HD television sets, HD broadcast standards, HD production cameras (like the Red), HD camcorders using tape or memory or hardrives, HD still cameras with video, HD still cameras without video, HD cellphone cameras, HD web cams, HD printers even. It really only means it's better than what we tried selling you last week.

You decide:

Above is a non-defective unit's quality level at 640x480

Above is a defective unit's quality level at 640x480
