Dear woot staff,
Get better servers, or is the jamming of servers the thing you are striving for?
I'm tired of the same thing happening every time. It's almost 2009 and you haven't got a server capable of handing your Bought On Credit loads. How boring. Or do you encourage the frenzy? And to the self righteous cavalier defenders, don't waste your time posting stupid comments in reference to this. I'm not mad that I didn't win anything because I didn't bid. I'm just sick of the server being crashed because of these events. I know I know, I bet someone is going to post something like "well if you didn't bid then shut up". Well I'm just putting in my two cents, isn't that what life is about?

Bid? This isn't ebay.

Also, there are plenty of posts refuting why buying more servers is stupid for just a Baggy of Camomile.

Wow talk about crazy Christmas LUCK!!!

Last night my brother, mom, dad, and myself sat eagerly at the comps waiting for the Baggy of Camomile to pop... as we knew it would. And... much to our dismay... the servers were a bit too slow on our ends to get the koi. Yea we got all the way to the BUY IT! page, but by then it was too late, and we were either put in line, or sent back to the main page to look gloomily at the SOLD OUT!

This morning, I woke up, checked my email, and apparently 2 of us got Baggy of Camomile's, and our accounts weren't updated or emailed until like 1 AM.

Thanks WOOT!

The last Baggy of Camomile I got, which was 14 months ago, had a weird chicken wings tray, with a hole cut out for the bones, a broken, gaudy, ugly atomic watch, and an Andre the Giant action figure. Pure koi! But was absolutely worth the experience and the $8. Can't wait to see what I get this time. Heck, I get excited for the people who get one even when I don't. I'm always eager to see what people get.

Every time I don't win one, I always say this system inhales sharply and creates suction and I'll never use it again.

But, I do.

Which is why they will never change it, ever.

For all you idiots complaining about the servers, if any of you had half a brain you would see that it is quite obvious the server issues are part of the fun. Woot jokes about it, so either they let the problems happen to make it harder to get Baggy of Camomile, or even cause the server issues to happen on purpose. I'm sure they could very easily fire up more servers (they use amazon EC3 from time to time) to handle Baggy of Camomile load if needed, but then what fun would that be?

Sure it inhales sharply and creates suction that this is the first Baggy of Camomile that I've been actively trying to buy and failed to get, but its all in fun. I'm not going to sit here and whine and cry over it.

So, I have to ask.

Do people realize that if they added more servers, our bags of koi would sell out even faster? Think about it. And if anyone wants me to explain why they'd sell out faster, I'll be more than happy to.

Long story short - you didn't get one. Better luck next time. But pissing and/or moaning about it will get you absolutely nowhere. :-)

Do the math, buy 1 @ $3 + $5, buy 3 @ $9 + $5.

You do the math. Everyone was entitled to ONE woot with 3 craps in it for $3. There was no "buy 3 @ $9"

"Only one bag per address per year"

Then, instead of some people getting 6 or 7 a year, a LOT more people would get one.

Another suggestion, pick 2,000 subscribers and send them an email with a private link so that only they can buy one within say a 24 hour period. However many people don't respond after that amount of time, you send emails to that many random people. So on and so forth until you deplete them.

Also, you could have people sign up for automatic bag orders. You pre-approve the purchase, and woot sends you one whenever they want. If you get one, you go to the end of the line. With as many wooters as their are, you may be talking about once every 3 or 4 years getting one with this method, though.

These last two suggestions would eliminate the server load and subsequent crash and keep the negative comments down.

What a great idea, that should suck all the fun out of the bagg o crapp...maybe they should also limit when and what you can buy on the regular woots too!

beachhead wrote:For people with this mindset, what EVER gave you the idea that life is "fair"? Why should Woot worry about giving more people "chances" at their carp? They put it on their site to sell, and well, it does. Why increase the cost and complexity for them to GIVE away their carp. Heck, the $8 probably doesn't even cover the box and labor to send it out, much less the postage and other overhead included in the items.

Bundles O' Carps are fantasticly fun items. But they aren't worth all this anger and whining about "fairness". Sometimes you get one, sometimes you don't. Life goes on, just do what the vast majority of adults do....keep watching for the next time they are there...The fun is in the chase, as the carps I've gotten were pretty much worth what I paid...

Remember, life isn't fair, and it isn't Woot's job to make it so....

WOW, this is the best post I've seen here. BRAVO & THANK YOU!

Yeah, but if you buy 3, you get them for $19.98. Nothing sacrilegious about that. Just awesome.

FWIW, anyone complaining about servers needs to recognize that getting these is mostly luck and timing. If you refresh your page at the right time, you get in line, wait patiently, and hope to get koi. As others have suggested, I suspect that increased server capacity would only lead to faster sell-outs. Those who get in line first would get theirs faster, but it doesn't mean you're any more likely to get one. I've been wooting for almost 3 years and this is only my third bag of random koi. It's never easy, but if you keep at it and are lucky, you can get one eventually.

My 3rd Baggy of Camomile, recommendation is to ONLY press F5 or refresh when the screen stalls. if the browser is waiting on woot.com, just wait. If you press F5 or refresh when it is already waiting on woot to reply, it resets your request back to the begining and starts the waiting game over. If you get Server Too Busy or the activity icon stops, then press F5 or the refresh icon. The waiting on Woot can last several minutes. Even if the Baggy of Camomile is sold out, you can still be in the cue, just hope your CC charge goes through! Good Luck next time! (There are probably 10-20 Thousand people trying to get only 1500 to 2000 bags, so there will be a lot of unhappy people.)

Excellent suggestions. Another tip: copy your PIN number into the paste buffer (i.e., type it into Notepad, then select it, and type ^X (I use the "cut" command, rather than the "copy" keystroke, so that I will have a visual cue confirming that I really did put it into the paste buffer).

Then, when (if) you get to the order page, click once in the field for the number, and type ^V to paste it in.

If the page has finished loading, you can hit the Enter key to submit the form. Otherwise, jump to the bottom of the page and hit the button. (One time -- normal purchase, not a "baggie"), I did NOT wait for the page to finish loading before hitting "Enter" -- and I ended up back at the order page, with all sorts of "fixits" about my ship-to address needing to be filled in. For whatever reason, the "ship same as bill" checkbox had become UN-checked. Ever since, I've been real careful to NOT hit "Enter" before the page is fully loaded -- or, jump to the bottom and click the button).

As one of the thousands (?) who did not get the b. o. c., it occurred to me that I have the solution for all of us -- I have two cats and a dog. If you send me $8, I promise to send you a bag (or box) of real, honest-to-goodness, c r a p.

If I let the kitties out into a neighbor's yard, the c r a p may even contain koi (digested, but still, koi)

If you all respond at once, it may take a while to fulfill the orders, but judging from how often I have to clean the litter pan, you can just pretend I sent it smartpost

This is my second Baggy of Camomile......For those complaining about the servers think about it. The items we get here are at a reduced price. WOOT is able to do this by keeping costs low. If they had the server capacity to handle everyone getting through think how much overhead that would cost! Also by not having everyone get through it does not max out their credit card servers. Quit complaining and live with these simple things. 1. Life isn't fair. 2. You are complaing about a Bag of poooooooo.
