btw...for anyone having problems with it I have a few suggestions.

1) set it down for 10 seconds. The instructions say five but some of us tend to rush a little on the count (esp during a presentation).

2) lock your wrist and move your forearm...makes for much smoother movements (esp with high resolutions)

3) back up a bit from your screen until you get used to it

4) it's not a mouse! stop treating it like one!

I got one of these for my Mac (PowerBook G4) and got no response whatsoever. Took the battery door off, checked the battery, and after that was never able to get the battery door to go back on right; it always sticks out on the top or the bottom. It's currently sitting at home waiting for me to get frustrated with it again.

A quick Google search reveals that pretty much nobody owns this, but everybody wants to sell it to you.

This information is useless to me.

I'm looking for a presenter remote with backwards and forwards buttons, without needing to load fragile Windows with yet another third-party binary, so this won't work for me. Also, the manufacturer's web site is horribly unclear and uses Flash for navigation. Ugh.

Yer hurtin' my brain. First, you use this through walls. Why? More interestingly, how? Second, two times two equals 6?

Too late! I already ordered 2. Thanks for posting the link though. I just hate mail-in-rebates. They take too damn long, and sometimes they run scams and they don't send your money back. WOOT woot!

Just keep your order. Don't Cancel! It will take you probably 2 to 3 months to get your $99.99 back (if you get it back). Save your self the hassle and the aggravation of the Mail-In-Rebate. Good luck.

http://www.google.com/products/reviews?q=mail+in+rebate&fq=thenerds.net&cid=1291e44afefd45e6&sort=1

Quotes from TheNerds.com reviews:

"I am still waiting info on the $100 rebate. There was no rebate mail-in card included with my TomTom. Does that mean you are handling the rebate for me? If not, I need the $100 rebate card. The rebate offered through your firm was the final reason I bought from you. This is my second inquiry about the missing rebate."

"I bought a GPS unit from them because they advertised and promised a $ 100.00 rebate. Turned out that the rebate was not actually available. I did not learn this for a couple of months after the purchase. The Nerds were uncaring. They finally offered an in-store credit only ,for half of the originally promised rebate. This was not acceptable. One should not believe what is told or promised by The Nerds. Buyer Beware! Check with other companies before purchasing."

"I would have liked to have received a receipt or packing slip with the item to use for the mail-in rebate"

NOT WORTH IT! I know that this sounds like a good deal, I bought one a few months ago from woot for $36.95 or something like that and was really excited to get it... When I recieved it I quickly opened it with a huge smile on my face and after spending a ton of time trying to make it work like it should I felt the urge to flush it down the toilet. It is almost impossible to control (and I have used other gyro mice without trouble) this think is horrible. I wish Woot would buy mine back! It has been sitting in my computer case untouched since the first week I got it! Not even worth this price for 2!

bought the 512mb on 02-07-2008 for $35+shipping. quite satisfied, getting 2 more. drifting of cursor went away, and ease of use came b/c use of wii-motes and natural movement. does not work like a 2-d mouse, just use naturally and it's easy.

I bought this the last time it was on Woot. I really tried to like it, I had a Gyration air mouse before. This one is a little too finnicky for me. If I could inject some Ritalin in it so it would behave, I would enjoy it more, otherwise this is just a novelty.

edit: Please, people, if you want one or several of these, do your business with woot. Even "smartpost" should not daunt you. woot's deal is about the best you are going to ever get for these unless they are being handed out at a trade show or something.

dasarp wrote:YOU CAN GET THESE FOR FREE (THE 2GB VERSION!):

(puts on flame-retardant clothing)

You aren't getting them for "free", <epithet removed>.

Worse yet, their deal is for one device at $99 minus secret code (oh dear, I mentioned the 'secret code') and $9.99 for the S&H (are they going to rebate THAT??? I don't -think- so). That's right, just one device. At least woot is selling you TWO devices (again, please don't bug me about the difference in memory capacity) for $29.99 and $5 for shipping. Not merely one device and the hassle and "costs" as are noted below.

First off, you have to give this other company $99 (etc., etc., good and bad) per device.
They've got your money and you don't. In fact, you don't have anything.
It is likely that they will put it into an interest-bearing account and accrue perhaps even a small amount of money on your payment until you receive back whatever you get as "tender" for the rebate.

You have to print out the rebate - let's presume you are honest because the number of dishonest ways to do this are far too numerous and boring to state. In any case, you use your own paper, you use your printer' ink or toner, you put wear on your printer, and you use your time (it -is- worth something to you, isn't it?) which, in sum, are not free.

You have to put the rebate that you've printed in your envelope, put postage on it, put the address on the envelope, and have it entered into the USPS system (the latter is only used as an example). These entail either direct costs for materials or cost as related to the time you've spent doing this action.

You obtain the device (just one, remember) - who knows when? At this point, you've given them more than $99 dollars all told and all you've got is one thing-a-ma-jig. You've mucked around with the initiation of rebate process and have mailed it in. That doesn't appear to be "free" as far as I can see. This appears to be a purchase (in effect) of a device for $99 plus $&H minus "secret code" plus a huge amount of hassle - and you haven't been given the rebate's value yet, have you? Merely the device.

You have to wait (apparently a -long- time) until they return whatever "tender" is due you - read a U.S. Federal Reserve Note (dollar bill, five dollar bill, etc.) some time: "This note is legal tender for all debts public and private" if you aren't sure what "tender" means. You still don't have the original money you poneyed up in the first place and you will never recover the costs of conveying the rebate form to them or the S&H. You certainly cannot, by any means, accrue interest on the money you didn't have for a while, can you?

Finally, if they actually decide that you've done everything to their specifications, they probably return to you a check for $99. At this point, you have to cash the check - again, taking your own time to do so (and I'm still presuming that the saying "time is money" applies to you).

All told, the $99 plus S&H minus "secret code" goes forth, and but only $99 and ONE device comes back.

By no means whatsoever have you received anything for "free". Furthermore, as noted above, you only have one device, not two.

Dig?

<considers removing flame retardant clothing, but decides that reticence is the best policy until people quit crabbing at me for being too strident.>

Yeah mail-in rebates really aren't fun. You throw down 100 dollars, and then you have to wait a long time to get it back. Hopefully you filled out everything right and they actually sent it. If you're lucky enough to get it, better hope you don't throw it away since they often look like junk mail.

The last mail-in rebate i did took me 3 months to receive.

This woot looks pretty cool, I can't decide if this thing work work well for surfing the web on the couch or not. I hate the trackpad on my laptop. Can anyone shed some light on this idea?

I loved the old Gyration stuff: looked like a infatuated gourd or something. I had a terrible problem with my leg and had to stay in bed. Obtaining a useful, stable, flat surface under those conditions is difficult.

Doing the "keep your wrist locked, only move your fore-arm" is absolutely the way to go. No risk of carpal tunnel syndrome there.

My biggest problem was putting it down and losing it in the blankets.

The product being sold tonight is, as someone noted, not a mouse. They were absolutely correct that they should not be used as such. In my opinion, the situation is far worse than that because - as pointers - they are massively badly designed with regard to ergonomics. Fifteen minutes using it and your hand and wrist will hurt terribly.

Nonetheless, woot's price on these and the foreknowledge of what you -ought- to do with them make this a rather good deal.

Is all

Why do you want to use through a wall? It should be good enough for at least 50 feet of unobstructed view though. Maybe up to 100 feet according to the specs.
