I have a complaint.

The stupidly large button isn't stupidly large enough.

I survived the moving lips / shirt.woot launch tee server crash of 2007.

I don't like the new design. I have sent an email. I did not know it was being discussed here.

The color choices are poorer than before and I have to scroll to view the content on the right.

Well after 24 hours I have decided that you guys need more 3 inch by 3 inch ads about stuff that competes with your woots. I think thats a GREAT strategy. I mean the 3 that we have now just arent enough. Especially when they show competing products. (SARCASM)

Also there is nothing like going from a simple easy to read easy to navigate site to something like this. It's all over the place and there is no "flow" to speak of.

This is just an overall very unfriendly redesign in my opinion. Colors are not even being taken into account. I'm talking strictly design.

Argh...

It's bad. Really bad.

I typed out a post detailing my observations, opinions, and comments, and it kept crashing the server. The message said if I got the error consistently to click a certain link to report it. So, I clicked the link, and was given a box to explain what went wrong, and THAT crashed too.

So, I gave up.

Bad, bad move, guys. You took something that worked, albeit with warts, then applied pancake makeup with a puttyknife -- stretched it out wiiiiiiiiide -- and, instead of fixing the existing brokenstuff, broke some MORE stuff in the process.

Let's see if THIS one posts...

Well, this time it let me get as far as the preview screen -- so, one final observation: Is it my imagination, or is the text on the preview screen REALLY REALLY tiny?

Did you end up with stuff you can't use? Broken Sansa, non-working DVD recorder, oddball cables, misc. electronic parts, and so forth? Don't throw it away! PM me, and I might be interested in buying it from you.

Snot green color. Not good. Why go wide?

Your old color and layout was your calling card, it made your site recognizable and comfortable. We felt at home.

This is not an improvement.

The only way we recognize this as woot is the font of the logo!

The idea for a new look isn't bad, though the display is too wide and I don't like the color. (Colors on shirt.woot and sellout.woot were fine. Just the color here isn't the woot green we all know and love.)

Also the I Want Two and I Want Three Buttons should be larger. Everyone will thank you when the Baggy of Camomile's come along.

I love it you guys are trying. Way to work it!

What happened to the link to my PM box?

Mostly I don't mind it. Too colorblind to care about the color scheme (which by the way I hear is abysmal) but I do have one tiny weeny problem with it...

It's 1081 pixels wide.
1081?
What the fork is 1081?
Are you on drugs?
Did someone slip and hit their head?

It's a design that would fit absolutely perfectly in 1024.... but some genius prima donna arteest asshat designer decided that he or she (I bet it's a man) must have decided that his artistic integrity would be compromised unless he could use 57 more pixels... and to hell with all the folks with 1024 wide screens.

Please go get the person responsible for fighting to add the cretinous 57 extra pixels... (I know there had to have been a fight) drag his preening, puffed up, self congratulating, egocentric ass out into the parking lot and take turns kicking him in the grapenuts until he catches on fire.

Then send him back inside with and ice pack and a deadline of midnight to get 57 pixels shaved off of everything.

Jeebus. Do I have to explain everything to you people?

Sadly, you've rendered your brand into a look-alike image of your tackiest wannabe imitators (ThingFling, DailySteals, Yugster, Shnoop, Stootsi).

We w00ters welcome any technical improvements to the site, but was the change in format necessary?
Aside from the unanimous comments regarding the page being too epic, the color and layout are not ingratiating. They are, in fact, cold and repulsive.

I've always enjoyed turning people into new w00ters. But, this new format doesn't provide the arcane feel of the older...the sense of being among an elite corps of insiders. Now, the site just looks like so many of the others.

In its original form, w00t! was an icon. Why, oh why, did you feel you had to mess with it?

I have already commented on this change, but I just come to realize something.

The Woot shirts I have, the Baggy of Camomile shirt, the 1 year shirt, the monkeys, etc, I am now embarrassed to wear/show them in public.

I mean that too. I am not trying to be an ass, but this design makes me ashamed to tell people about Woot now.

Sorry Woot, I can not help it.

If anyone wants to buy my Baggy of Camomile or 1 Year shirt, PM me. They are 3x.

Apparently, based on many of the previous comments - plus one more (mine) - you guys must have assumed that most everyone had wide screen (16x9 format) monitors/laptops.

Not so, fellas!

Now, if you've got some spiffy deal coming up that will allow those of us with outdated CRT's to "move up" to a nice 17" or 19" or even 22" LCD for significant cheapness, maybe we'd be more inclined to 'accept' the new format (but not necessarily the color).

But for my money, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Send the interns back to their classrooms with a gentle pat on the back, and as soon as they're out the door, revert to what has worked so well for you up until ..... uh, yesterday.

The more I look at it, the more I dislike it. Its not so much the design, or the fact that I can only see the whole page on my widescreen monitor now. But the green is just a terribly bland and offsetting color. What was wrong with the joyful orange? Are you going to have Green Flashing Lights and Percent Sold Bars during woot-offs too? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!

I loved the old simple and unique design.

I like it, welcome to 2009, but the complete disregard for people with 1024x768 resolution is pretty ballsy, And what is with people talking about the orange? What was orange before, other than the logo and some minor other things. It was green, you don't remember yesterday?

Okay, I ran the site through Colorfilter and didn't see any glaring accessibility issues, so that's good. However it does look like there's at least some issues since people are complaining that the site is harder to read. I agree that the green-on-green isn't very easy to read. A lot of this would also depend on the monitor's gamma/other settings; I know sites that look perfectly fine on my PC laptop become unreadable on my Mac Mini, and vice versa. I'd listen to those comments.

I checked the site out on my Blackberry Curve, using its default browser. The Woot logo is stupidly large; it's taking up a third of the screen's real estate. The rest of the first screen is taken up by the login box, which isn't terribly bad. It's nice that you put quick links at the top, but as a result I don't see the product until the third screenfull, and the first thing I see is the product's image (which again looks stupidly large on my Blackberry) before I see the product name/price. I don't think it's necessarily bad to have the name/price below the image, but I would prefer the image to be smaller.

You have a MAJOR issue with the ordering of the page after this. What comes next is the discussion box. While discussion is great, the product description far outweighs the importance of the discussion box. You need to move the product description above the discussion box.

The next thing I see is the main content title and subheader. The title is rather large; it's important for it to grab attention so it does need to be larger than the rest of the text, but it felt TOO large to me. Your side deal placement totally fails, here. It's really hard to tell that it IS an ad and not part of the main content, so it's just throwing a bunch of confusion to the mix. This needs to be either moved, or delineated somehow so it's clear it's not part of the main content.

I didn't even notice on my Mac Mini that the "Welcome to Techluv" paragraph was in bold, as the effect was subtle. On the Blackberry it's glaringly obvious; having that much bold text is hard to read. The rest of the page looks okay, but I'd consider adding a second "I want one!" link at the bottom of the product description on your mobile CSS, so Blackberry users don't have to scroll back up to the top and find the link.

I also took a quick gander at it using Opera Mini on the Blackberry. Some of the objects didn't align properly, but otherwise it looks pretty much like it does on my Mac, so I don't think there'd be much accessibilty/usage problems there.

I don't have a screen reader or text-based browser on my Mac or PC, so I can't test other accessibility for you. I hope you took that into consideration, though; I'm strongly in favor of websites that are accessible to people with disabilities or who use mobile devices.

I've you've read this far on the forum, good job!

One thing I think is you should put sellout.woot.com along with the wine.woot.com and shirt.woot.com and visa versa with all three websites).

Also I think you chose the wrong color (green) for your flagship website (woot.com). I think if you would change the color (maybe shades of gray?) it may look better.

Oh, and one bug I saw was that when you preview your post, the text is very small.

It's too wide for those of us not using a wide screen monitor. I think woot should quickly sell us all a wide screen monitor for free or else shore it up.

Also, 1970's avocado green? Really, this is the color you wanted to go with? Seriously? I couldn't get rid of that fridge fast enough. Nasty puke color. Maybe a bit darker green?

Otherwise, the layout is good and the wooting is good.

Why have you made the site look so monochromatic and bland? Were you trying for a more professional look? Because, I don't visit WOOT for the professionalism... I visit for FUN. This new look is definitely NOT FUN.

Oh, and has anyone mentioned that the horizontal scroll is not cool????????????

I also don't like the new ads and the little comment preview. Makes everything too cluttered.

Cluttered, hard to navigate and boring. There's a combination you don't want to see in a website!

I don't really care. I'd be happy either way, as long as I don't have to scroll right on my relatively low resolution of 1064x768. Which means I'm politely not happy.

But hey, I don't come to the site for your snappy wit and wonderful web design.

looks like Woot has deleted two non-obscene but critical comments from me. Since the Moderator always goes to bed after about half an hour, leaving the site to the trolls posting obscene stuff, though, maybe this comment will get through...

It appears that Woot wants people with non-widescreen monitors to either go away or buy a widescreen monitor from them. I've been looking for a reason to stop being tempted by "refurbished" items that were never even examined for defects, much less fixed, and closeout items that seem to always have some nasty design defect that renders them worth just about what I paid for them, and it appears that I've found it. The nylon BeeOCee from xmas was a prod, but this is just the kick I needed to stop wasting my money on junk.

1) Too wide. Call me old school, but I (like most web denizens, if not [yet] Woot customers) am still at 1040 * 768. Maybe you should give us a good deal on a widescreen monitor as part of your upgrade....

2) Seems slower. Maybe due to increased traffic, but I had a hard time pulling this up successfully this evening. Can't even imagine what a Binge On Carbuncles would look like, let alone a really hoppin' Woot-Off.
