Wow....lots of passionate posts on this thread, so I apologize if I'm bringing up an issue that's been reported over and over. Forgive me not reading 30+ pages of mostly complaints on the color. This is a minor issue, but should be addressed eventually.

I've noticed that since the 3.0 change the "Woot Tracking Bot" emails contain a broken link. For example, I purchased the "This Machine Kills Faxes" shirt the other day. My confirmation email arrived shortly after my order and no problems with that. But this morning, my shipment tracking email arrived with the following:

Tracking bot wrote:
Please check out the Product Forum at the following link:
http://shirt.woot.com/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2940144

The link above redirects me to a 404 page. It should be: http://shirt.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=2940144

Again, I apologize if Woot has already acknowledged this issue.

Just to add my insignificant view: I don't really care one way or the other. The green is fine, and it's not like the old style was so hot anyway.

It's just a CSS stylesheet. If you don't like it, change it on your own PC and use your own stylesheet.

I read some of the other comments, saw a lot of people complaining about the "wideness" and having to side scroll.

I have no problem with the wideness. That could be attributed to my screen resolution (1280 x 800), or maybe they fixed it after the complaints.

My one complaint is the position of the side deal. I liked where it was at the top of the screen, but I'd be satisfied as long as I don't have to scroll down to see it.

The redesign is perfectly fine. There's nothing wrong with the colors. If you can't handle change, perhaps the problem is with you, not the site.

I'm here to buy things when I can use them and amuse myself for a few minutes when I can't. There's nothing in the redesign that affects that.

All versions of the site (main, wine, shirt, sellout) take a long time (60+ seconds) to load on IE 6.0. The status bar will say that the page is "done" but it is not possible to interact with any widgets for up to 30 seconds beyond the "done" point. It's not my firewall or my computer, since other major websites are not showing the time lag before being able to interact.

IE 6.0 got you down? That's because it was released in 2001. You'll love the things they've done since then.
There is a public release for IE 8 now (if you just don't like 7 for some reason and you want to stick with IE), or try this or this.

The second thing is that regardless of whether or not the wiiiiiiiiiiide load will "fit on the screen" the fact remains that we're not in the Olden Days, in which we operated one app per screen. I remember coding for 80x25 screens. I didn't have to worry about how much of the screen I could use, because it was ALL mine, every blinkin' character cell of it.

But these aren't those days. Today, we have MULTIPLE windows open on a virtual desktop, with no *single* window -- at least not those which adhere to the conventions of common courtesy -- will lay claim to the entire display (or, *enough* of the display to render it essentially a single-app device)

As a full time multi-tasker and a part time multi-slacker I agree wholeheartedly. I hate having a window take up my whole screen.

The last time I did anything fullscreen on a regular basis besides gaming was on a vt1oo term logging into the mainframe back in the late 80's/early 90's. And I could at least put the current process in the background and do something else with just an ampersand.

My wife does the whole screen thing, and I hate it when I have to help her fix something on her computer.

But hey it is their site. Personally if I had bought a 1024 "low res" non-epic laptop from woot recently, I would be quite upset that the site that sold me the computer now basically considered it obsolescent.

There are workarounds and at least I have learned some CSS our of the deal.

Don't mess with the write-ups though woot!

Technically that's true, but it's still missing the point. There's also a logical flaw in assuming the posters in this forum represent any level of sentiment among the million or so registered users. And the choice of the word "moronic" wasn't mine.

deepspace12dotcom wrote:You are entitled to think what you will of course, but how about you save the smart comments for somewhere else?

Hey, I just followed a link asking me to let Woot! know what I thought of the redesign. It's fine. You might wonder if the guy who posted the link inviting people to this thread should be calling other people "moronic."

so i guess this goes here.... not that it matters anyways. i can't believe the horizontal scroll hasn't been fixed yet. unbelievable. i'm to the point where i dont even care about the color anymore.

--------

woot. i just want to show you what your site looks like to me, because you can't know or otherwise you wouldn't leave it like this.

really though. do you honestly not care about my opinion? do you not care that your site looks like it was designed by a 3rd grader? i'm not complaining for the hell of it. i'm being honest.

does no one care anymore that it is like this? it is painful to look at and makes me feel unappreciated. i don't read the descriptions anymore. i hardly look at the side deals. it just isn't the same. at least fix the wideness... i mean what the hell are you doing?

-------

and i'm viewing the site at 1024x768 on an lcd monitor. come on woot.

-------

and the HUGE, BRIGHT ORANGE "now hiring" advertisment... can you say tacky?

------

and what is with the quote box? i just realized it was a different shade of green. can you not put a frame around it?

WHAT ARE THE WORKAROUNDS PLEASE?
please PM me the answers! :-)

I'm writing again, I hope in the right place this time, to add my voice to the many who are having W I D E L O A D problems. I usually check woot on an ultraportable EEEPC (yes, it's a piece of junk that loses audio and wi-fi at the drop of a hat, but it fits in my *camera bag*, unlike any of the other portables). But wait a sec...

The site displays fine on my IPhONE! Ok, so this leads me to believe it's not totally a site design problem, but it is probably a browser compatibility problem.

The browser I'm running on the eeepc is Firefox 3.0.4 for Linux. I hope this helps and that the wide problem gets narrowed down.

Please do not increment my Quality Posts count. 69 is a good place to be. ;-)

As previously posted in this and another thread, if you're willing to use Firefox, this workaround will fix the width and colors (and a couple other items). Instructions are at the bottom of the page.

http://www.barnharts.net/bn/firefoxcssoverride.asp

iGGz wrote: why the hell is there a scroll bar in the signature?

Woot has a maximum height on the signature area. Funny that even some woot staff signatures gets the scroll bars. The above workaround removes that height limit.

Interesting. It only picked up the last bit of your post, after all the quoting of deepspace-whatsizname that you did. Pity.

Still, as the voice of reason, I'd say that there's been a lot of wasted emotion. Green, orange, who cares? When it initially started, it was difficult to navigate, and to read, but it has been improving over time. I wish that they'd offered a beta, and done a whole lot more testing, instead of just springing it on everyone, but there it is.

I'm waiting to see what happens during a woot-off, and wish they'd move the side deal thing up on the main page, but otherwise I think it's okay now. I can read stuff, I can make forum posts, and most of what's left is petty annoyances.

Wasting the right hand column while I'm editing a post is still pretty annoying. They could have that goofy bit at the top of the middle column, and let the editing be two columns wide. My guess is that who ever is building this just doesn't know how to do it.

Whatever. As I said, it's an annoyance, not a deal breaker. Every once in a while I use a more modern browser to look, just out of curiosity, but (excepting the crazy w.i.d.t.h) it's not any big deal.

On the other hand, there's a few folk that seem to have drawn a line in the sand, and want it put back no matter what. I'd say that the tempest in a teapot will calm down, and either they'll get used to it, or not, and life will go on.

Yeah, that's what I figure. I have all my browser windows set to 800 x 600 -- in fact in my Documents folder I keep a GIF of a white rectangle exactly that size so I can load it onto my desktop and verify the browser's height and width every so often -- and the redesigned Woot! works great at that size. I can't see the rightmost column, but that's a good thing; it's filled with noise and clutter that I don't care about and, even if I did, I'd need to see it only once. Anyone who's whining about the colors is just going to have to get over it, as you say, but anyone who's whiny about the width should try an 800 x 600 window.

I'm going to forego the usual custom of reading 34 pages of posts first.

The "new" site is hip, it's cool, and...nearly unreadable.

It's also slow, like if I try to scroll, I have to wait before I see it scroll, so it's probably Java-infested, too.

If I highlight some text, it promptly undoes the highlight! So no copying, or "search on..."

You even broke the "ShowPost" links, so I can't even revert to 2004. Sheesh.
