Many of the w00t sidedeals still use the old brocolli and carrots graphics in their 'welcome' to their site.

I'm one of the one's who thinks that 1024 will be the maximum desired width forever. A few reasons.

1. As stated above, more and more devices are getting smaller, not larger.

2. Regardless of how wide monitors get, the fact is, it is more comfortable to view content in a column with a pleasing width than it is to view content across your entire monitor.

The most common sense comparison is that of a book. There is a reason why books are in the shape of a rectangle meant to be read vertically, and not horizontally.

I honestly think Woot is being stubborn for the sake of being stubborn--and this bothers me more than the stupid horizontal scroll bar. I can get over the scroll bar, but the obtuseness of the people in charge makes me not Like Woot anymore, and I find myself not talking it up amongst all my friends and co-workers like I use to.

It's not just Woot. I'm noticing it as a general trend across teh intertubes. It's as if a bunch of web designers collectively decided the new screen "standard" is a 24" widescreen with minimum dimensions of 1920x1080.

Nevermind that Netbooks are the hottest thing since the last hottest thing, and they are not easily identifiable through their browser agent string.

Seems the web has suddenly become an unfriendly place for non-desktop users.

Never thought of it that way, but it sounds reasonable. I also agree 100% of your last paragraph is spot-on.

And I'm glad people are still browsing this thread... I'm sure that phenomenon was not forecasted at the woot 3.0 lovefest meetings

You'd be mistaken there - I forecasted opinion here pre-launch and while I continue to monitor our decision with concern myself, the fact that others are still concerned about it is most definitely enjoyed.

here's an early snapshot of april to date in screen resolutions visiting woot (I'll update the shared 1024 spreadsheet after month concludes):

Screen Resolution contribution to total visits:

1. 1280x800 21.97%
2. 1024x768 19.45%
3. 1280x1024 14.36%
4. 1440x900 12.26%
5. 1680x1050 11.23%
6. 1920x1200 4.64%
7. 1152x864 2.31%
8. 1280x768 1.93%
9. 320x396 1.62%
10.1600x1200 1.39%

to date we've yet to see netbooks operating at any resolution alter the resolution pattern as users and corporations upgrade their desktops. of course it might be said that we're the cart driving the horse here with our wide design now.

in my opinion, netbooks will fairly quickly evolve to have iphone-like lcd density and 1280 wide resolution even on the low end. many do already. 1024 wide is the new old 800 - it's worthless. the design divide is and will continue to be mobile / desktop.

The search is weak, so maybe someone else has said something, but - where did "my account" go? I can only see my billing information, if I start to buy, and can't just go look, check history, etc..

At the top where you log in. Right under Welcome and your user name.

I just got a new mouse for my notebook, and it has a tilt scroll wheel for easy side scrolling (something no previous mouse of mine has had). The first thing I thought was, I gotta try this out on Woot!

# 1024×600 resolution allows you to view a single A4 page without the need to scroll left or right for easier reading and editing of documents

Dear Jerkface: Woot won it's awards and the business soared during the 2.0 site design. I never saw the purple until I went back to the Internet Archive I previously posted. I doubt there were over 1000 comments about the move from 1.0 -> 2.0, but I'm willing to look at that thread to compare. Say what you want... think what you want... I don't like your website anymore. And that's just me. I can't speak for anyone else, but I really don't feel like supporting your website anymore. That small twinge that sometimes pushes me to buy, just because I liked the site and the people and the references to MST3K is gone. I haven't been to shirt.woot or wine.woot in 2 weeks. I have no clout to call for a boycott of the woot sites... most wooters will probably move on, get decent deals, deal with the width and ignore the colors. Consider this a boycott of one. I know you're scared. but whatever.
