stabbing myself with a spoon now... I bought a tablet for my wife just a couple of months ago during a Woot-off. Not half as spiffy and $100 MORE than this one!

The extended battery lasts 6 hours for me. I've owned this for 6 months and I have never regretted it. I can fit all of my notes for class in one convenient, easy to use place. Great for college.

i would never buy anything refurbished or breakable from woot again. see the discussions on the last dvd recorders... they poorly pack the items and then redirect you to phillips or that company from problems with item, when really the poor qaulity control of packing is the cause. then prior to that, i bought the coleman solar panel chargers.... put to heavy chargers in a big box with two plastic four inch air bags....yes broken and wanted me to spend costly money to return broken items that went into the trash...they were shards of glass!!!! cant get picture proof instead!? not happy.

Camoli wrote:Where can I buy a fully released version (not Beta) version of Windows 7?

My God, I'm not ready to upgrade to a new version of the OS after figuring out Vista.

My next purchase will probably be a Mac where I can put an end to all this MS hype and bloat ware.

Case closed...

I've been using Beta 7 since the New Year and I've put it through its paces. Driver support is insanely awesome (automatically recognized my dual monitors, put them in proper resolution *with spanning* - all before the initial OS install was complete).

The beta is the only thing available right now from MS... and its free until end of January. I'm not sure when it'll go gold/retail, but I'm seriously thinking of snagging this tablet and throwing Win7 on it.

I agree. I will probably never buy an HP laptop again, ever after my wife's HP went down two years ago (under warranty). HP handled the repair VERY unprofessionally. They diagnosed the problem but the part was "not in sock" so they held onto it for over a month before repairing/returning it. They made no accommodations for her loss of use of the unit and did not offer her anything for her inconvenience (like extending the warranty).

As for this tablet PC ... when you buy a laptop you also buy an OS. It's sad when you refuse (like myself) to purchase a laptop because of the operating system installed on it. I refuse to knowingly pay MS a red cent for that joke-of-an-OS, Vista and I refuse to go out and buy an OS that I prefer to make up for it.

I will not even consider this deal because it is an HP ... with Vista.

STAY AWAY FROM HP ! ! !

I had a horrible experience with a HP notebook and the subsequent "customer service"--basically I ended up buying a Mac and taking the loss on the HP koi.

Can anyone compare this to the Fujitsu Lifebook T2010? You can get either retinker at about the same price. And the 2010 is a couple of lbs lighter.

This is an active digitizer (will sense the pen when it is not pressing/touching the screen).

If you get this, I would highly recommend getting a warranty for it. I have the TX2510, and went through 2 of them in 1 week a month and a half ago, returning both for replacements. The third lasted 1 month before it too failed, and I had to send it in for warranty service. They replaced the motherboard on it. All had the same problem, failing to recognize any disk drive.

I really like the design and size (the last laptop I had was the TX1000 series, which is nearly identical, but with passive tablet, and it lasted a little over 1 year before it failed, boy I wish I got the extended warranty...), but I will probably not get another HP if this repaired one I have just gotten back gives me any more problems.

Anyone else notice the original woot on the tablet's screen?

Be careful with these motherboards if you buy one. The series of HP tablets has had a problem with the fans not being set to a high enough speed which will burn out your wireless card, graphics card, and eventually even your CPU. I'm still waiting for mine to be fixed from HP. Might be why these our retinker's in the first place

Multi-touch and capacitive touch on a tablet would not necessarily be a good thing. How would you rest your hand on it? In general, I rest my hand on the tablet like a notebook and take notes. It wouldn't be a good thing if it thought my hand was an input. ;-)

If I'm not mistaken, free upgrades to Windows 7 upon its release are in the works for "Premium" versions of Vista bought now.

You are mistaken, this is based on manufacturer and does not start until around July 2009 at the earliest, but once again, that is only based on the manufacturer, it has nothing to do with Microsoft. Unless it says free upgrade to Windows 7, you are not going to get it.

Multitouch capability isn't just an OS thing, it also depends on the type of touchscreen. Most displays, including this one, use a resistive touchscreen, which allows you to use a stylus on it. The other type, which is used for the iPhone and Ipod touch, is the capacitive display. You can only use fingers on that kind, but it is also the only one that allows multitouch capability. In other words, if you can use a stylus, you can't do multitouch. =)

What's with the big manufacturers making all-in-one pcs (i.e. looks like an imac, but only runs windows) with a touch screen? Do most people put the monitor that close, so that they can muck up the screen with their nacho cheese-laden fingertips instead of using a mouse in a more civilized manner? Do we really need digital ink so we can store poorly digitized line art from important business meetings? Can't most people touch type?

Oh, and it's an "Entertainment Tablet". Why- because it can play the latest movie releases that you downloaded via bittorrent? Any old garden variety laptop can do that.

I just don't see the point of this feature set.

Have you ever used an iPhone? I've got to disagree with you on the idea that a mouse is more civilized than a touch screen. What could be more intuitive than just touching what you want?

However, I would never use this to scribble notes. That seems slower than just using a laptop to type.

I want something like this because I'm a digital artist and the ability to draw on the screen is far, far easier than trying to use a normal pen tablet. It's in that capacity that I think these are most valuable.

So is this a touch screen, or a wacom-style tablet screen (only works with special pens)?

Or is it both, in the style of a few Lenovo tablets and a few others?

Is there a way to disable touch and only use the stylus, so your wrist doesn't tap stuff while drawing?

I bought new and love it as a demonstration platform. I create 3D models using Catia of buildings and structures. With the pen you can manipulate with ease. The only problem is when in tablet mode the launch DVD button gets hit all the time.

Tempted... but shouldn't I just wait for big bad Windows 7? I am still running XP, which may seem nylon, but my little computer I currently have is so very, very weak. It's getting dark now... theres a bright light... oh no... it's a... blue.... screen.... ugh.

I just hate buying stuff that will appear nylon and out dated in 6 months. But the prices seems right for everything this HP is trying to offer.

Just don't know if now is the right time or not... any suggestions? It seems like a lot of people have been giving this comp. great reviews.

I have a similar laptop, mine is the tx1000 series and the battery that came with the laptop, not the upgraded battery, really isn't that great. Mine runs out of juice after about 2 hours of web browsing. But I love my laptop all the same. It's small and lightweight.

My wife has an older model of this line, and the battery life actually seems par with the 17" non-touch laptop I got about the same time (2-4 hours, depending on CPU load and brightness).

Pros: She loves the touch screen. It's funny to watch her switch to using my laptop because she frequently taps the screen to follow web links, close and bring up windows, etc.

Cons: After a year she needed to get it serviced by HP for overheating, and they had to pretty much replace the guts completely because plastic parts of the motherboard, hard drive and internal case had melted. It's less a problem of the touchscreen and more a design problem of the small form factor coupled with the smaller fan and vents.

All I have to say is this computer is AMAZING. I just bought it a few weeks ago directly from hp.com but I only paid 800 for the same computer new. I would recommend! Battery life is pretty decent and I love the stylus pen and the remote control it comes with and the computer has built in slots for both. Very nice and fast computer!
