They always say don't worry about buying a referb unit, the factory has gone over it with a fine tooth comb and fixed all the problems. Ok, if that is true, then why do they only give you a 90 day warranty? BECAUSE IT'S NOT TRUE. CHANCES ARE YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE PROBLEMS IN MONTHS 3-12 OR ELSE THEY WOULD WARRANTY THOSE MONTHS! Oops, was I shouting?

If the model is HP TX2525NR, then no - that model does *not* have Bluetooth. However, if the model is TX2510US, then yes, it does have bluetooth.

I ran Vista Ultimate x64 from beta until last month when I installed the Windows 7 x64 beta. The only thing that I could not get to work was the Microsoft (ironic) fingerprint reader. What can't you run?

I'm glad they put Vista on here. I'm really starting to like it because they have fixed all of my compatibility bugs (I had a lot). Its a little expensive though.

Does anyone have a comment on the width of the site? I thinks its awful! I hate scrolling left and right! I can't even up my res because 1280 X 1024 makes my icons and text too small!

Well, they just removed a bunch of comments about the "woot make over", maybe they're afraid that people notice the amount of complains they're having about it............

I HATE THIS NEW DESIGN, TO MANY ADDS, TO WIDE, TO GREEN.......

You can go to the woot blog and found the not so popular woot make over blog and read all the negative feed back ( just a few a favor ) about it here
What do you think about the new Woot design ??

Those saying that they don't want it because of Vista 6b-bit, I have yet to find a program that does not run on 64-bit. In fact, some of my programs (3ds max, ect) run BETTER in 64-bit mode. I have not had a problem with Vista since sp1. The only problem with 64-bit is that its SLIGHTLY less stable, and a very small number of programs are not compatible with it, but if they are not, they just run in 32-bit mode. The only problem I have ever had was with HL2, and once i switched it to 32-bit mode, it worked fine.

samwaltzjunk wrote:Does anyone have one of these running Linux? Which distros does it support? Which distros do you recommend?

I've got an HP tx1000 (the grandpappy of the tablet today) and I've mostly tried openSuse, PCLinuxOS, and Ubuntu and on each of them, I was able to get everything but the screen rotation and the media keys around the screen to work.

Other people have had some success with writing scripts that flip the screen orientation around, but I never gave it a shot.

The linux drivers for the touchscreen feel really fluid and responsive (moreso than in vista) but quirkiness will ensue.

I'd really recommend going with Ubuntu, just for ubuntuforums.org. That site is the most comprehensive and helpful for any linux distro and they've had 130+ page threads just for setting up Ubuntu on this series of HP tablet.

Hope this helps!

I have owned this laptop for over a year now, it's a great laptop, the tablet feature works great until I dropped the screen and the glass protective layer over the lcd screen cracked.

However, the lcd screen portion was fine! So they are built a bit rugged

Everyone complains about the grainyness of the screen, it's the capacitive touch layer on the glass, I know this because once my glass broke from me dropping my laptop, I removed the glass and the screen looks super clear.

I plan on replacing the glass with a piece of acrylic that I already purchased, just need to cut to size and install, then i'll be able to use the pen at least, but not the touch.

This laptop is not outside friendly, the sun glare is awful with the glass on the front.

These laptops to get a little hot if you use them for large file editing/photoshopping or gaming.

The graphics card is okay for graphics, WoW will play on low settings, Starcraft plays great (older game obviously), other games will run, just need to tweak them.

I have install the last 2 version of ubuntu on this and had the touch/pen portion working fairly easy just type "tx2000 ubuntu" in a google search and you'll find a lot of guides that can show you how to get it all working 100%.

Mac osx86 will work on this laptop as well with the pen function working out of the box, please make sure you have you're own copy of osx before downloading osx86. There are guides for install osx86 as well.

The laptop comes with a IR Remote which is awesome if you have Vista Ultimate installed with the Windows Media Center, you can sit back and have it hooked up to a tv and just surf all of your media like you would tv cable stations.

Hope I helped some people make their decisions

I called Square Trade this morning and had to send them a screen shot of the $80/deal then they gave me a coupon code to give me 20% off the $99 that the quote kept giving me.

A little slimy, I think. If you advertise $80, you should be able to get it for $80 without a lot of hassle. But, I see good reviews of their service, so I think I'll jump...

Wish I had seen that Costco had this same model before I bought here, though.

This is the model that BestBuy was selling. I bought one for my wife as an early Christmas present October last year. Had problems with the screen freezing up on us - screen becomes impossible to read - still have pictures on my cell phone to show BestBuy what the problem was. After more time in the shop with Best Buy and HP then she actually got to use it; we called it quits on the unit.

The first time the issue happened, the mother board got replaced, the second time after it being in HP service center (Chino, CA) HP says they can't fix it and the unit is being recalled.

From the HP rep at the service center, the problem with these is the solder on the motherboard, HP contracted with third party to manufacture and the solder type was wrong. They had no idea how long it would take to get the old supplies out of the inventory before the new motherboards, from a different manufacturer, would get into the unit repair system for units coming in with this problem.

A word of caution, be very careful if you purchase this; don't be suprised if you have screen problems. I paid almost $1100 at BestBuy for this exact model and nothing but problems. Ended up returning the unit to BestBuy and bought my wife a MacBook.

If anyone is interested in the desk stand for this unit let me know, I can give you a good deal on one. HP would not accept the return on the stand from me because it was outside of the thirty day return policy from HPShopping.com. The whole experience was very frustrating.

I had this laptop recently. It seemed very nice at first, but did not turn out to be so great.

Pros:
Small size
Tablet capability

Cons:
Gets INCREDIBLY hot
Very short battery life (maybe just over an hour or so)
My motherboard died after 1 year and 1 month (1 month out of warranty) and HP customer service isn't very good

Buyer beware. I'd only recommend this if you absolutely NEED a tablet at this price.

Great at the start, iffy in the long haul. My former roomates had this system, and let me tell you, this thing has some serious, serious cooling issues. The system would get so hot that it would literally burn you if you picked it up from the bottom or set it on your legs for a few moments. Eventually the heat took the internal wireless network adapter and fried it. Luckily, their system was still [under warranty, and when the network adapter and motherboard were replaced, the system ran fine on its repaired life.

Answers to some questions from somebody who's had one for a while.

Yes, it gets pretty hot, sometimes painfully hot if you like to keep the computer on your lap for long periods of time.

No, it doesn't have multitouch, the touch functionality isn't all that good either, you have to press really hard on the screen and it's not as accurate as I would like. If you think this will work just like a PDA would you are sadly mistaken.

Yes, there's a lot of screen glare when you're outside.

No, the picture quality isn't as good as it is on regular hp brightview screens, the colors are a little washed out and it looks interlaced all the time.

All in all though, it's a pretty good computer despite it's shortcomings and you can't beat that price on a touchscreen.

I'm actually really happy about the fact that it's got 64-bit Vista. I use it at work now, and I'm not planning on ever going back to XP for my personal computers.

It's a lot faster and a lot more stable than 32-bit XP was on the same computer. I have yet to find anything that doesn't run in 64-bit. I've heard anecdotally that some drivers for old hardware can be problematic though.

To inquire about the status of your order, the best thing to do is contact service@woot.com with your order number. Woots can take up to 5 business days to ship, but you should receive a tracking number when your order ships. Make sure to check any spam filtering you have in place.

Did you know shirt.woot ships internationally? Get you some!

I have the slightly upgraded version of this (4gb ram and better processor). I bought it in May for college and I absolutely love it. The computer itself works great and runs without a hitch. The touchscreen, it takes a little bit of getting used to, but it is WELL worth it.

The speakers are a little hit and miss from what I've seen(Mine work great, but I work at a computer help desk and the ones that are brought in tend to either be perfectly fine or a little on the quiet side).

I bought this one they're advertising today for my Parents and they can even use it without any problems. Honestly, the BEST PRODUCT I'VE EVER PURCHASED THAT WAS FROM HP.

I really don't know if this comes with MS Office--- kinda doubt it--- but give OpenOffice a try.
