Staff

At some point in the recent past, we asked you to create a futuristic battle-mobile from past and current Woot products. We learned one thing from this contest--you people are innovative, inspired, ingenious, inventive, and fertile. What? Fertile is another word for creative. You have fertile minds. But then, why wouldn't we say you're novative, spired, genious and ventive? Ever think of that? Huh? Well didja?

First Place - $100
taipan - Elvis-bot XVI

So this is how they are keeping him alive. Great balls 'o fire!

Second Place - $50
intaglio - Watch Out

Even the sources are neat to look at.

Third Place - $20
wonderstew - Scorpionbot

Yet another outpost was destroyed, all their water stolen by the Wondertruck.

Honorable Mentions:
toby8915 - Soapbox Derby

Don't give them ideas.

FedUpOldHag - Way Cool Bot Thing
We don't know what this is but we like. Get this thing in the derby, stat!

faithcoaching - Indifferent Tokyo
What? Give us a break...it's only the 23rd giant metal monster made out of wireless microphones and speaker parts we've seen on this street today.

SBCJester21 - Mad Max Beyond Gutterdome
Like the sign says, "Speed's just a question of money. How fast can you go?"

lockeroom - 12 Megapaddles Kayak
I guess he's battling mother nature?

Xexus - Battle Mobile
Thank you, Mr. Literal.

BDFresh - Monkey Autopsy
This machine must be defective. Beef? Well maybe it didn't have monkey meat programmed in. Anyway, it's what's for dinner!

Monkey Prize
ThatPoshGirl - Dogs v. Cats

Cats are so badass.

Money winners, please email your Paypal info to jtoon@woot.com. Monkey Prize winner, please email your shipping address to jtoon@woot.com. Then go order Sea-Monkeys. While you are waiting for them to arrive in the mail (they will arrive MUCH sooner than your Woot monkey), make 3 batches of monkey bread. When the Sea-Monkeys arrive, feed them the monkey bread and see if that helps them live any longer than normal. If they see their shadow, there will be 6 more weeks of waiting for your Woot monkey. Honorable Mentioneers may use coupon code HONMEN-FS for free shipping on a future order. Until next time remember: save up all those items you bought in the Woot-offs and your bags of koi, because one day you may need to build one of these things in order to survive the post-apocalyptic Earth after that comet hits in 2012.

Congrats winners....but I'm outta here. Two hours working on an awesome rig that gets beat by a pentax camera is too much. Sorry woot, you f.a.i.l. I'm movin on.

EDIT: It's April 30th 2009 and I still love the contests!

I also got back-to-back monkeys in 191+192. Anybody get three in a row?

Congrats to the winners, HM's and everybody who entered this one. It was a difficult contest -- too much work for a lazy bones like me.

after a two year hiatus, I return to the w00t-chop photo contests and after waiting a month for the results... I get an honorable mention! w00t!

Too bad I just ordered two Audiovox Digital PhotoFrames with Writing Board from sellout.woot.com

Come to think about it... can I use the HONMEN-FS coupon at sellout.woot.com or the other w00t sites?

which also brings up the question... how long are these coupons good for? I only avg about one w00t a year...

ack! another thought.... how does w00t know I have a HONMEN-FS coupon? What if someone just types it in and steals my coupon???

why w00t why do you make me think so much?? I need the 6 brain cells I have left to do these w00t-chop contests! Dang it. 5 now. Thanx w00t. I really shouldn't've drank so much in H.S.....

gotta chill, dude. I can't tell you how many chops I've submitted, convinced that there had never been a better chop in any contest, only to see them completely ignored.

This is a game of statistics, and of making your entry get noticed. you're reasonably good at the chopping, so the statistics ought to tell you that your entries will get noticed. I think this was only your second or third week playing- you have to give it time, you are NOT going to win every week. there are only a couple of people who were able to do that, and even they only got in there about half the time at their best.

I hope you come back, and best of luck whether you do or not.

Congratulations photochoppers! Nice work all--much fun, I look forward to giving you guys (and gals) more competition. §;D

Congrats to the money winners!

May I make a suggestion for a contest idea?

How about cartoon invasions (you may have already done one); but the idea is seeing how a character from one cartoon would interact being placed in the environment from a another cartoon (i.e. George Jetson living in Bed Rock, or Optimus Prime having a tea party with Rainbow Bright). Just a thought.

Thanks, I do enjoy it, but it takes me too long in PS to make this a steady thing. To be honest, I was trying to generate a little revenue for myself, times aint what they used to be. I think Woot should adopt a public voting system for this contest, perhaps not as demanding as the Derby, but something. I do get the feeling that they come in, pull up the contest and nonchalantly grab a few to call "winners." Anywho...no hate to the players (ya'll er some clever folks), just to the system.

BTW, I think Intaligo got the shaft as well, that was a "benjamin" worthy effort!

The problem with that is that most people hanging round the photoshop contest don't seem to care about an entry other than how hard it makes them laugh. Not that the "photoshop" contest hasn't already turned into a "make you laugh" contest. Just my humble opinion...

btw congrats winners!

Woot does come in and put up a new contest on Mondays, but Josephus and I are the judges. We take it seriously and we definitely don't nonchalantly grab a few to call winners. We have discussions about the entries each and every week and we do try to do a decent job. Having entered the contest ourselves many times in the past, we know how it feels to put a lot of work into your entries some weeks, and not a lot in other weeks. I remember trying to figure out the previous judges' likes and dislikes, and I could never do it. We do like entries that are clever, yes, but to be money-worthy, it has to have good photoshopping skills to go along with it. I know you didn't mean to imply anything about our judging abilities, and usually every week we do receive positive comments about our picks or at least gratitude from the people who entered. That continues to surprise me and I know most of the Wooters around the contest are genuinely nice people and someone I'd like to have a beer with

Anyway I just wanted to make sure you knew who did the judging and that we definitely take notice of all the entries in the contest. I hope you do stick around and keep entering. I remember when I first started the contests--somewhere around #38 I think?--I spent a lot of time on my entries, and I had to really try to limit the amount of time I spent on them. But trust me there were plenty of times I put a lot of work into my entries only to not find my name in the winners' list. Weeks would go by when I was in a drought. Anyone remember those U.S. quarters I did with Woot products in that currency contest, I remember doing about 9 of them...I was really going for the money that week and ended up with an HM. Sigh..oh well...good times, good times. At least I can say I learned a ton about Photoshop in the meantime! So I know I'm rambling but the point is to hang in there, you do have good ideas, we'd hate to have you leave because of one bad week.

Congrats guys! I definitely didn't expect to win anything, but it was a learning experience to say the least and a fun way to pass some time.

Xexus really should have snagged the monkey prize for taking the contest so literally. ;) Can't wait to see the results for contest #209. Every submission in that thread is a winner!

Congrats to winners.

I admit to using performance enhancing graphics for contests 98-106. I apologize and hope to get the monkey (prize) off of my shoulders.

Also, please keep in mind this is all in fun and game. "Woot!" could stop the photoshop contest and save their money, but they grant us with an awesome outlet to get away from our everyday routines to have a little fun. I'm surprise to see the photoshop contest make it into the 200+, because the hate every Monday was pretty strong--the judges would get pounded from the non-winners...

I think the difference between Taipan taking first place or Intaglio taking first is that Taipan entry went a little further with the design. Taipan's creation was integrated into a scene, although Intaglio's entry had a higher degree of difficulty, it was just placed on a white, empty background--therefore the judges may have thought the entry was great, but only deserved 2nd place.

I can remember in the past when it seem the same top three people were taking home the moolah, but I agree with the judges that yes, the photoshop should be good, but the entry should also have a creative aspect too.

So, before you post, look over your entry and ask yourself if the chop is strong and if it relates to the theme... Try to be funny, it's seems to help.

Congrats winners and all, and thanks for the nice comments I've received and I appreciate the HM, considering the number of other entries that were more deserving.

When you look back over past contests, you see some people complaining that chopping skills were being weighed too heavily, and other times you see other people saying that the funny ones were being overly favoured. So that says to me that the truth lies somewhere in between, which is right where I think it should be.

my HONMEN-FS coupon doesn't work. I've written to "service" and hope they'll credit me the $5 on today's 3-fur bookmark tuesday w00t. Anyone with "insider" knowledge, know why the coupon code won't work?

It doesn't seem to work most of the time due to the comments I've seen (and a few times myself).

When it doesn't work, just continue on, but be sure to drop them a email with your order number (and it would probably help to let them know the contest number where you won the HONMEN-FS).

Each time I've experienced that, the shipping fee was refunded quickly.
