According to the French, a man should marry a woman half his age plus seven years. Know any 32 year olds??

Of course I am!

just not so young of a babe...
1974, when I was starting high school. just after the war ended.

see, I remember that war. I remember watching the news and at the end, after Walter Cronkite said his thing (not "goodnight, and have a pleasant tomorrow", but something else), they'd scroll the names of all the soldiers who'd died that day. We always looked really hard for names of people we knew, but never saw any of them. Thank goodness. Of course, we did know people that got killed, though. My 2 oldest brothers were athletes, and no way they wouldn't get drafted, but they put in a draft lottery, and they got high numbers somehow. lucky, lucky, and never got called.

I remember President Kennedy's funeral vividly. I sat in my dad's lap on the floor in my older sister's room, where we had a TV, and watched the horses, probably going down Pennsylvania Avenue, with his shoes or something on the horse's saddle. I mustabeen about 3.

You can't name a baby a name that hasn't previously been used in your family in France. I knew a post-doc in Mobile who was French, and he and his wife named their daughter Daphne, after the town of Daphne, Alabama, just because it was a way to get a new name into the family, plus they liked the name.

weird, the French.

More like by days. The way I remember it, there were still some class-of-73 folks drafted. You were probably young among your classmates. Born in late summer or fall?

Hmmm. Okay.
As we get older, the memory gets fuzzier. Wasn't exactly fun stuff at the time.

Maybe some day, I'll forget that I used to have an excellent memory.
That'll be a good day. Of course, I'll have no idea.

I love fractals.

I was trying to find some more photos to hang in here. There was a PBS program about creatures of the deep that are even unnamed & unstudied. There was this really fantastic red & purple creature (a cross between a jelly fish and an octopus/squid) that is located in the warmer waters near Asia, I wish I could find a photo of it.

Give me a nature program anyday...that and reality TV.

I had done a koi pond two years ago...I could not keep those suckers alive. Finally, after 3 koi and about a dozen goldfish later, I decided it wasn't a good idea.

Those ponds are a pain to clean. I would scoop out the fish which were tricky buggers. I would pump the water out of the pond. Put new water in...use one of those testing kits -acid vs. neutral. Add the skin conditioner stuff. Put them back in. I even had a little fountain for them to go under and little castles. I think I didn't put the pond in a good location - direct sun. But I don't have anything other than direct sun.
