Shun makes fantastic knives. I don't know about this series in particular, but I've been building up a set of their Classic series at $60-120 a knife, and they're definitely worth it if you like to cook. (Of course, if you cook enough to even consider paying this much for knives, you probably already know what you're looking for.) And at least on the Classic series, you can ship the knives in for free sharpening.

ShannonToohey wrote:Not if you're clumsy! When I push hard chopping potatoes I have time to stop cutting before my finger goes. Not only that but it takes time to get used to it. I loved using them because yah they go through sooo quick and easy. But when I cut my finger so bad the problem was I'd gotten a good way through by the time I realized. Wouldn't have happened with a dull knife.

Maybe statistically they're safer, but not the best idea for accident prone people.

Don't get me wrong, I'll get some next year when I can afford them. But I'll probably lose a finger when I do.

i recommend you just stay with jello and save the fingers.

Purchased the "Alton's Angles" set of Shun knives in a previous woot-off. If these knives seem expensive, they're not for you! If you're the kind of person who might want some serious cutlery, Shun makes a great blade.

First woot:
11/16/2004 Gravis Eliminator Gamepad
Most recent woot:
11/19/2009 Shun Kai 3 Piece Carving Knife and Fork Set

I won't bother to post my thoughts on the knives, this post will be burried in 15 seconds tops.

These are some of the best knives on the market, it is a very good deal, however I live in Oregon and so I can go to the yearly over stock/overrun sale they have in fall and pick them up cheaper. These knives are worth every penny. The lifetime guarantee is no joke, they take it very seriously, they will replace the knife no questions, any problems, they will fix it with pleasure, one of the best knife companies out there.

I'm incredibly tempted by these - fantastic deal on what seem to be some incredible knives. Alton Brown (of the Food Network's Good Eats) had a hand in designing these, I believe.

I'd love to buy. However, the bottom line is that I can't afford to spend this kind of money in general, and I'm not sure I'm ready to invest in a set this expensive. If you grab a set, enjoy. I have little doubt they'll enhance your cooking experience.

■VG-10’s Rockwell Hardness rating of 61 ensures that it takes and holds its incredibly sharp edge longer

Ummm, that's the same as saying a lady's bra size is 38. You need a letter to have any meaning. There is a Rockwell A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. Like bra sizes, there is a big difference between A and C.
