Okay, I got my blue ocean carp ordered, but it still bugs me...

Why do they warn me not to waste freight? Is there a looming freight shortage? What if we run out of freight before we run out of oil? These scary questions had me very freight'n'ed.

I tried to reassure myself that freight, being a service, not a comoddity, will not follow post-Keynesian patterns... Once freight is over utalized, more providers of this service will spring up!

And then I realized Woot is trying to bring down the whole economy by conserving freight and preventing freighteners job growth. More visas for freighteneraters! More visa for me to buy Woot! with!

This was the first Big Old Carp that I haven't been able to order since I first joined...I was on the site exactly at 10pm (Pacific), and placed my order all the way to the final page several times, hit refresh over and over for 1.5 hours...always got the server error...But, ya know what? This is just the luck of the draw...I've order three Beverage of Choice in the past, proud owner of 3 screaming monkeys, and more priority pucks than I can count, wireless key board and mouse, speakers etc...Everyone just calm down, some you win, some ya lose....

It depends how long it takes the monkey to crap in 1500 bags. If you're lucky, your crap will still be runny upon arrival.

For me, Beverage of Choice V was ordered on the 15th. It shipped on the 19th and was delivered on the 21st.

check your account page and click on the order number. It will say if your order doesn't show a shipped status in 5 days, to contact woot.

Below is my correspondence with woot regarding this issue. They have a more than apathetic tone, and seem to really not give a crap. Or maybe all the crap is in bags so they can't give me any. Whichever the case, I'm more than dissapointed. Hell at this point an automated email that said they were sorry would be better than this BS. I never got a reply to my last email. Oh well... maybe customer service is only availabe on a first come first serve basis starting at 12 midnight each night.

Well its not listed there. My screen-shot shows I was there, seems like 90% of people hit the Order button and nobody got any orders, how the heck did this thing sell out? Well obviously your server got slammed, I'm sympathetic to that, but I literally sat there for an hour last night trying to get one, and I know that you sold them during that time because of the site statistics. Are you saying my order didn't go through?!

ok "if the order went through there would be an order number for the item under the "your account" tab at our website." That seems fair. Now what happens when I press the "stupidly large 'buy it' button" when i'm ordering something?

I'm expecting a reply of "your order is placed" Now thats great, why didn't that happen?!

Saaweeet!

I'm STILL stoked about getting through on the Bag of Crap deal this time around...and i don't even care what's in the bag...hitting the "back" button 10,067 times on my browser for an hour in anxious anticipation of actually scoring the deal was worth it all.

Sorry to those folks who didn't score...been there, done that...your time will come.

lol seriously what do you want from woot... if they were to pay ppl who had bad experiences off or give discounts, etc it would make the Beverage of Choice a less rewarding marketing ploy because it would cost more. You whiners decided how you wanted to spend your time... I'm surprised they even do Beverage of Choice and woot-offs these days because the woot audience has increased so much since back in the day... basically any piece of crap item, even if theres a metric crap ton of them, sells out now. So there are little or no "spare change" items (ie 20 of these and 50 of those) so that its not worth an entire day's selling. I dont even know where they get the junk to throw in the crap bags these days, maybe they buy dollar store trash for the sole purpose of crap fodder?

Yeah, the Beverage of Choice is part of the marketing now. I'm sure a lot of us check right at midnight looking for it. If there was no chance of a Beverage of Choice, would you check as punctually? I wouldn't. Woot wants you to.

I accept that I did not get a Beverage of Choice, that is part of the attraction of Woot! You might not get that cool thing if you are not fast enough or dedicated enough to keep trying. What does upset me is that after trying for over an hour, I manage to open the front page only to see the "sold out" sign up. Dejected, I went to bed. The next moring I found out that they had not sold out, but in fact sold many, many more! I felt a little cheated, since I would have stayed up and tried another hour, had I known.

Quit your whining. I didn't get a confirm email right away so I keep doing it for 20 min but I decided to waste the 20 min, woot didn't force me to k. Do you email the lottery if you dont win too?

I appreciate the effort - but that page is the one I seldom got - I got MANY MANY pages other than that - server not found, various other error pages and this message that made me almost scream....

That all being said - I didn't give up and was one of the lucky one's that snagged my Bartles or Canes in the 'third wave' of orders - and yes I was clicking for hours. And just joking about the 'full experience' - lol.

I think next time woot should put up a page advertising "FREE SERVER ERRORS"

And then, in the fine print, explain that some limited number of visitors, chosen more or less randomly, will also get the opportunity to pay a few bucks for some random crap - after all, somthing's got to pay to host all these FREE SERVER ERRORS!

But more seriously - maybe what's really going on here is woot has figured out how to get masses of people excited about donating hours of their time contributing FREE LOAD TESTING. Think of the prestige a server vendor could attach to being the first ones to supply woot with a server farm capable of handling a Night of the Random Crap.

(hey, now ... Night of the Random Crap - wasn't that the unaired lost episode of the Wild, Wild, West?)

I like this idea... Someone at woot listening to this guy? Try and get IBM or Sun or someone to sponsor a Beverage of Choice night, and give them a chance to demo their stuff's capability to all the wooters that stop by... The free server error idea is good too, but I think that's been tried before (kinda) with the "buy the feet warmer and get free mystery speaker". I got my speakers that way, so I'm not complaining.. Anyways, that's my rambling for this early morning... Sleep is much needed..

I want them to say "due to our server getting slammed like a 2 dollar hooker, we were unable to serve loyal wooters in our usual fashion. We whole heartedly apologize for the server outages, and hope you will continue to be a woot! customer as we attempt to sort them out"

Thats what I'd like them to say, I even gave it their enjoyable tone, at least they acknoledge the problem and apologize for it. Customer Service is all about making the customer feel like he matters at all to the business he is frequenting.

I don't want a discount, I certainly don't want them to pay me for the bad experience. Like I said, even an automated reply would have worked.

What? You mean we get crap!? Gee, and I was just excited about the bag! I bought three simply because of the shipping shortage. Didn't want to waste shipping. I am actually one of the lucky few. I had registered at about 11:40 the night before, central time. Saw that I could order the following three items:
1: Beverage of Choice
2: Bag o'Crap,
3: Blue Oyster Cult,
and just had to have it! I had read so much about it. Plus I am that guy who buys the cheap grab bags when I go places. I think I got a total of 2 server errors before my order when through. Yea, most of the WOOT stuff has been either out of my range or something I don't need, but hey, somebody must want it, it sells. :) So, I keep coming back every day to check it out and woot it up, an looking forward for my next woot.

This is my theory of what happened that day.

Due to the massive amount of members in the WOOT community many people check everynight to see what the Woot of the day will be. Everyone was astonished and saw the BAG OF CRAP. Everyone except the totally new people knew this might be their only chance. Everyone clicked immediately causing the severs to overflood. Some lucky few who refreshed at the exact time got it right away. While others who were a couple of seconds and minutes off got hit with the server overflooding. Woot employies realized that very few people were actually buying the Bag of Crap. They knew something was wrong with their servers so to get rid of some people and delay the problem they did the unexpected. They put a phony "Sold Out!" sign. Everyone was all bummed and blamed the servers. Many people allmost killed themselves and went to sleep. Yet some dedicated few kept refreshing and refreshing hoping it would be for sale again. Woot employies figured that a lot of people left, so they started selling it again. They were wrong, so they put the "Sold Out!" sign back on. And then at around 2:30 AM CST 11/04/05 they started selling more. Many people had left by then and the servers had a break and many got their orders placed including me.

This explains what happened on 11/04/05. If you look at the order chart thingy it shows that most were in the last hour because of the servers not getting orders in the begining.

Depends how you look at it. Some got great items, most got so so, and a few got really crappy items. But in the past no one got ripped off. The BOKrap aka Randum Krap( before the last one) netted a nice HP laptop bag- well worth much more than $8. Not so sure about the last one- I missed out. But I'm in for this one.
