Below is my correspondence with woot regarding this issue. They have a more than apathetic tone, and seem to really not give a crap. Or maybe all the crap is in bags so they can't give me any. Whichever the case, I'm more than dissapointed. Hell at this point an automated email that said they were sorry would be better than this BS. I never got a reply to my last email. Oh well... maybe customer service is only availabe on a first come first serve basis starting at 12 midnight each night.

Here is a screenshot of my order from the 11/4/05 Woot.

Make it happen, I never got a confirmation (I sat there trying to input it for literally an hour)

Order status is always located in Your Account and clicking on the item ordered.

Well its not listed there. My screen-shot shows I was there, seems like 90% of people hit the Order button and nobody got any orders, how the heck did this thing sell out? Well obviously your server got slammed, I'm sympathetic to that, but I literally sat there for an hour last night trying to get one, and I know that you sold them during that time because of the site statistics. Are you saying my order didn't go through?!

if the order went through there would be an order number for the item under the "your account" tab at our website.

ok "if the order went through there would be an order number for the item under the "your account" tab at our website." That seems fair. Now what happens when I press the "stupidly large 'buy it' button" when i'm ordering something?

I'm expecting a reply of "your order is placed" Now thats great, why didn't that happen?!

Woot : Service <servicewoot@woot.com> Fri, Nov 4, 2005 at 11:06 AM

im guessing because server overload caused many folks to have 100 attempts before the order was accepted.

are you guys sorry that happened? do you care?

If it were me, I'd quickly fulfill every one of these type of complaints by just processing $8 orders.

Throw two pens and a stick of gum in a brown paper bag and take the profit!

You bitch about as well at Terrell Owens...he has been suspended indefinately...

I enjoy your two seemingly unrelated statements. Seriously what do these have to do with each other?

Terrell Owens gets paid millions of dollars to play a game. He should shut the F*#K up and play.

Should I be suspended? From Life?! ahhhhhhhh /em hangs himself.

This is my theory of what happened that day.

Due to the massive amount of members in the WOOT community many people check everynight to see what the Woot of the day will be. Everyone was astonished and saw the BAG OF CRAP. Everyone except the totally new people knew this might be their only chance. Everyone clicked immediately causing the severs to overflood. Some lucky few who refreshed at the exact time got it right away. While others who were a couple of seconds and minutes off got hit with the server overflooding. Woot employies realized that very few people were actually buying the Bag of Crap. They knew something was wrong with their servers so to get rid of some people and delay the problem they did the unexpected. They put a phony "Sold Out!" sign. Everyone was all bummed and blamed the servers. Many people allmost killed themselves and went to sleep. Yet some dedicated few kept refreshing and refreshing hoping it would be for sale again. Woot employies figured that a lot of people left, so they started selling it again. They were wrong, so they put the "Sold Out!" sign back on. And then at around 2:30 AM CST 11/04/05 they started selling more. Many people had left by then and the servers had a break and many got their orders placed including me.

This explains what happened on 11/04/05. If you look at the order chart thingy it shows that most were in the last hour because of the servers not getting orders in the begining.

Um, OK. Interesting theory, but I'll take Snapster's word for what really happened.

mini-update 11:44am - not that it matters now, but our codeslaves reported (once they woke up today) encountering and fixing an address change problem in the order process that was causing 30 second database hang ups (stacked on top of each other) last night. These would pile up while we were getting 1200 requests a second to the server. Once this code was streamlined, a final reboot and re-release allowed us to speed through remaining 600 orders in about 90 seconds.

Read for yourself in the wootbot post at the beginning of the thread. Code tweak and reboot totally explains the behavior we saw.

Now, who wants to track down where our tracking numbers are :)

4.5 lbs. seems to be the popular weight........mine due 11/11 in upstate NY. Isn't it the case that often the weights are the same just to facilitate shipping? I seem to remember this being true for other Bags O' C.

Exact same for me in NC. We can only hope that good things can come in small, lightweight packages.

Btw, 1200 requests per second is freaking amazing. That should be enough to alleviate the angst for any thoughtful person.

Same for me - 4.5 lbs, but due on 11/9/05 by Fedex. (Fedex has an amazing ability to get my packages to me one day before the scheduled day, however - usually. Hopefully this will be true for this Beverage of Choice.) I'll be glad to let you know what I get when I get it... (I'm in GA, btw, reason for 1 day earlier than everyone else, I assume.)

4.5 lb, 069537841061660 . Estimated delivery is 11/9.

MY experience on the 4th: I refreshed at the right time, I guess. Right after midnight (CST), I checked the site, saw it was the bag, and sped through the order without any errors. I started getting them, though, immediately after confirmation.

I'm glad to see that everyone is getting the 4.5 lb'er. In the early days of the Bag of Crap, they used to give us actual shipping weights, and everyone could guess. I saw my 4.5 lbs, and I was a little depressed, thinking that all I got was the standard crap, and nothing special. But, now that everyone is getting 4.5 lbs, my dim hope is rekindled. Now, I get to be let down twice by this crap. Yes!

I dont know how well you can tell what you have gotten from the weight. This is my lightest out of 3 Beverage of Choice and the last one i got had a shirt, puck, car magnets and it weighted in at 7.5lbs!

If woot would be kind enough to explain the shipping weight and how it works that would be great.
