I want one, but can't use one with my setup. I have cable but no cable box, so I'm SOL. Grr.

I would say more, including twice (slightly different products) during the Woot-Off.

Is this the wireless version? My HD Cable Box is downstairs and my router is upstairs. How hard would it be to connect?

Be aware, I looked on amazon and this only has HD input, A/V input, S-Video input. So it seems THERE IS NO COAX TUNER IN THIS BOX.

It's the ultimate screen recorder!!
Why pay for a DVR box when you can record straight to your computer's hard drive?

I think this is a great product, and it can be a money saver in the:
short run (no DVR box)
long run (saving money with every use- no tapes/disks to record on)

You are only limited to the space on your hard drive.A 1 TB HDD is lookin' mighty fine right about now!

It's not hard at all to change channels as the Hava PC Player Software has a virtual remote. You just set the remote up for the device the HAVA is hooked up to and away you go.

Wow. God, I'm old enough to remember when a VCR cost $1000, and the lamer remote control was attached to the machine with a really short cable, making it useless. This product looks truly amazing. Streaming music and video live remotely to your cell phone? Wow.

No, they had the Monsoon HAVA Platinum HDTV Streamer on sellout.woot 9 days ago though.

I thought it was the same thing too, but just searched and that was what I found for within a couple months.

I bought one of these off Woot back in April, I think, but paid a lot more. The one I got had WiFi capabilities. It looks like this one does not have WiFi.

Like my HAVA but the only problem with it is the PC Player software sometimes loses it on the network. (My network is wired, don't know if that makes a difference.) All it takes to get it going again is to reboot the HAVA and switch it is connected to. This, of course, creates a problem if you're remote viewing it from somewhere else. It is cool to watch your local news from the U.S. when you're in Switzerland which I've done.

After looking at the description a bit more, I really want it.

Record my Playing from my xbox 360 to my Laptop. Stream movies/tv to my laptop, then I can download on disc.

Bought one of these off of Sellout last week.

Works fairly well. Some occasional lagginess, but still acceptable. It says that it works fully with Windows Media Center (to enable scheduled/oneclick recordings), but I haven't gotten that fully up yet, but it appears that it will work great.

Simple setup. The on-screen remote enables you to control the cable box like you were there.

If it had a built-in tuner, it would be a perfect box.

It is rare that woot! has a product that I can't imagine SOME use for. However, my house is extremely small, I don't watch television, I basically only use one monitor, and I definitely do not travel (for example, I become terribly claustrophobic on airplanes).

As a result, I can't quite see why streamers are so popular. I guess it is similar to my not watching television and then hearing people around me talking about advertisements they've seen - I'm simply NOT a part of the culture in which I live any more.

On the other hand, the Asus I picked up here not long ago (and arrived this last week) is cute as a bug (as the saying goes), particularly with a USB-connected wireless keyboard and mouse. Uh, given that I'm terminally lazy, I'll ask a question: what flavor of Linux does it run? (send a private message so as to not bore everyone else) In any case, since it is basically so slick that I don't think I'd want to alter it much given how much I'm enjoying it. Particularly because ALL of the other machines to which I have access are Vista-burdened. Sigh.

Actually, including woot-offs and sellout, this makes 7 times in 2 months for some type of Hava. Must be the new Sansa.

$64.99 for a tv tuner?

Granted, cheapest elsewhere is 79.99 + shipping, but you can't really get a decent feed to make it worthwhile.

Maybe, if you have a fiber connection, this could be worth it. For the other 95% of us, downloadable content is the future, not streaming.

On the other hand (what is that, 3 now), with fiber, even if you pay for HD content, you only get 9-12 mb max, which is ridiculous when you consider that you only watch 1 channel at a time. You should be getting a 100mb pipe for watching HD channels over the web and lose the channels you arent watching, but then you would actually be getting what you pay for.

I have this one. I think I had it for close to two years. Newer models have wi-fi built in and also USB for HD for DVR-like functionality. This one has NO TUNER so it has to be paired with a VCR or STB in order to use it as a remote viewing device. If you do have a digital tuner coupon you haven't used yet, then this model could be paired with that for an admittedly limited viewing options.

However, one decent use for this -- especially at this price point -- would be to hook up an old camcorder to this and use it as a view-anywhere home surveillance system. I got a hi-8 or something-or-other obsolete camcorder that has 24x optical zoom. If I hooked it up to this Hava, I could view it anywhere from home and away and even with my cellphone. Hava is pretty responsive in getting new remote codes out so you could use the included IR blaster to control the zoom function. Or use the learning capability in the new software.

This is not a tuner.. It streams from whatever source you use as an input.

From the description,

Connect any HD video source and watch TV on a Microsoft Media Center, XP or Vista PC without having a TV Tuner installed

So the purpose is equivalent, right?

I am still curious as to how this qualifies as an "HD" streamer considering it doesn't have HDMI nor DVI outputs. I know there are component cables, but that has the lowest HD signal output available, no?

You want this device if:

1. You are a little bit technical or VERY patient/methodical/anal/can RTFM

2. You like to watch tv on your computer or multiple computers, whether you're in the house, office or on the road

3. You have an extra cable box or converter

4. You want to be in control of your DVR and be able to export to iPod, DVD, etc without extra software

I have an earlier WiFi version (wifi is 100% useless but it can be disabled) and I absolutely love it. For what it does, it does it very, very well and for me that is 1.) remote television with remote IR control of the cable box and 2.) recording in a standard format that I can copy/distribute/burn as I wish.

I often wonder why this company isn't better known given the coolness of their product. Oh, I know, it's a niche market. Oh yeah.

No. You are still going to need a tuner that inputs to this device.

I am curious as to if there is a limit on the number of users that can connect to your streaming content via the web? Like for instance, if you purchase a pay per view show or something.

I have the WiFi model which I think is more versatile. But on the whole, these are terrific devices. It's fun to watch your own TiVo recordings on your cell phone, PDA or laptop.

Good product.

Component cables handle up to 1080i which is the most you are going to get from current cable/sat boxes. It is as HD as you can get without Blu-Ray over HDMI.

Hardly an "HD" product given that the ViXS Xcode 2105 is only capable of 720x480. Don't be fooled by weak branding attempts.
