Two sleeping bags for $20? Thats a great deal! Even cheap-o bags cost like $50 usually. I would be in for two if I really needed them, but alas I do not at the moment.

My MH ultra lamina is 84 inches long and is designed for someone up to 6'6". It has a footbox and I'm assuming this one does as well, so it should be good for pretty much anyone not over 6'5" or so.

apcray or not, it'll be nice to have a couple to stash on the boat.

Exactly... If people are going to get into serious camping, you'll want to look elsewhere and you probably already know that. BUT if you're looking for a few summer trips to the camp grounds, national parks, etc. they'll work fine.

But the picture shows two bags, each with a right-hand zipper. Ideally you want one to be right-hand and one to be left-hand. You can still zip two right-hand zippers together, but one of the bags will end up upside down.

So what's the real story? Is the picture accurate, or does one of the bags come with a right-hand zipper and the other with a left-hand one?

Very astute, Yumi, but I think the picture shows one olive and one black. Hopefully, you would get two olive, one right-zip and one left-zip (or two black). Or not. Maybe someone at Woot! central will take pity on you and find the answer in the next few hours. (Or maybe Heck will freeze over. Who knows? Could happen.)

I'm supposed to buy something? But we're having so much fun with things as they are, I don't want to ruin it!

To be fair it is -6 to 11 in Celsius which it was probably originally speced in... I would still be freezing my ass off at either temp in these bags...

Size: 210×75/50 cm
For the inch-inclined, that would be ~83" by 30"/17"

These are light gear- like the kind you would use in a tent on the beach in south Padre. Not really the type you use for rocky mountain trips.

75 and 80 in the day on the Mountain can turn into 20 at night in a flash.

Agreed but the camp is in Texas and it will probably be around 80 degrees at night here in June. I do agree that he will need something more durable for the trips to Colorado next year. Plus I am always needing one for my kids and their friends spending the night here at home.

That would be to -6C to 11C. Just like 98.6F is an exact conversion from the approximate average body temperature of the nice round number 37C.

The number of zippers doesn't matter--since these are mummy style unless you have a right-hand and left-hand pair, you'll end up with the hood in your face.

Agentbolt wrote:For everyone hammering these poor things for being cheap garbage that won't keep you warm, you don't know what you're talking about.

ALL sleeping bags, even Wal-Mart specials, will keep you warm. The better bags are just more compressible, keep their loft better, and are tougher. With a ground pad (which anyone sleeping outside should have regardless) I guarantee these things will work do to 35 or so degrees Farenheit. And who really goes camping in colder weather than that (who doesn't already have a l33t Mountain Hardwear bag)?

While these bags may prove to be a great value (price vs. quality), it is ridiculous to say that all sleeping bags have the same ability to insulate.

To imply that a high-fill down bag is no better than polyester at warming in cold weather is disingenuous at best.

I've encountered the same problem once or twice on some really hot summers. I'd suggest using a sleeping bag completely unzipped as a base and then some blankets so you can throw them off unconscionably when it gets hot, or you could get up at 8am and do the whole breakfast in the morning thing.

Nooooo! Don't skimp on his sleeping bag. For actual campouts these aren't going to do much. Kelty is good for BSA. Reasonably priced, and they'll last. I'm still using the one I bought 13 years ago for scouts (over 200 nights in it).

I also gotta say, if a sleeping bag weighs 1.5 lbs. and it's made of 100% polyester, it's a mighty thin bag. Most decent poly bags weigh 3-5 lbs. and it's hard to find even a down bag weighing only 1.5 lbs. So, it sounds like these will NOT have much protection from the ground and only minimal warmth. If you buy these, better get a foam ground pad or you'll feel every pebble under you the next morning!
