I don't know how old your parents' Therm-a-Rest is, but I love mine. Much less prone to damage than the old Ridge Rest it replaced, and worth its weight in comfort. I simply strap it to the bottom of my pack and just go. At 3.5 lbs, definitely worth it.

I couldn't find a way to search the thread so forgive me if this has already been discussed.

How would these compare to a Coleman Sleeping bag? Are they pretty comparable to something you would get at Target or Wal-Mart for $20-30?

Love it...
now.. the big question:
Is that 75cm/50cm (top/bottom) measurement zipped or unzipped?
If unzipped, that's child sized.
if zipped, that's somewhat reasonable.

Keep in mind that is the stuffed size in their sack (not a compression sack) when put in a compression sack these get to about half that size. Also keep in mind it is a sleeping bag for $10. I could quote all the virtues of my Mountain Hardwear Ghost SL -40 Down Sleeping Bag and then every one would complain that it cost $570. So in the spirit of keeping it real - Its a $10 dollar bag that weighs 1.2 lbs and takes up a little more room than a $100 and up synthetic bag. Use a little logic and make an informed decision.

If you are looking for a performance bag, sir, then maybe a $10 a piece is a little lower than you ought to be shopping. ;-)

Size when packed is 28cm x 16cm, which is 11" x 6-1/4". That ought to fit in a internal framer. I know my wife's bag is MUCH larger and it fits in her 2600ci Kelty internal just fine.

I figure, best case, I have a new light bag to take backpacking. Worst case, my daughters get upgrades from the Strawberry Shortcake bags they're quickly outgrowing. Who knows, it might be interesting to open them and refill the shell with down.

Dang you woot!! I need to stop spending money for awhile after the last woot-off and other summer expenses. Oh well -- nabbed 6 so the kids can use them too. Will probably be nice for while we are driving this summer for vacation and have the a/c and they are wearing shorts and complaining it's cold in the car!

Keep in mind the fabrics used are not "downproof" so you will slowly loose down through the fabric. Other than that it is a great idea. If you have the skills to open it to fill with down you can open it to refill if the down levels get to low.

@WOOT

Can you please finally clarify if we're getting two bags that can be properly zipped together as the product description indicates???

(Or if someone never had to take one of those spatial thinking tests and failed to realize that unless you have a right and a left, you'll end up with a hood in your face??)

I bought one of these about 2 months through a daily deal with Ebay for $25 free shipping. My son used it on a Boy Scout campout in Wildwood, NJ. According to the Weather Channel it got down to about 41 degrees on the beach with a pretty strong wind. My son said he actually just kept his legs covered and that the sleeping bag did a good job. In for a pair in case he destroys the one he has now.

Since the dimensions printed on the screen are 210 centimeters, that translates to 6' 8" if my math is correct.

if any of this made sense, please help me

Yes, this bag should work great for MN summer nights. It's not the lightest, best compressing bag, but great for car camping or heaving packing.

BTW, 6" x 12" is not too bad for compression. Especially a CHEAP bag.

Since the inside and the outside are made of the same material, couldn't you just flip one inside-out and, "surprise", now you have a zipper on the opposite side! Does anyone think this would work?

scouter99

quality posts: 1 Private Messages scouter99

I read on buy.com that these are 2 way zippers for those of you who ask if one is right and one a left.... I figure as small as they roll up I can get 2 sets and keep em in the garage for when they kids have friends over or something and need to sleep on the living room floor (or in the yard).... cheap enough for that!!

Not only is it not bad 6" x 12" is the stuffed size not the compressed size. The sack it comes with is only a stuff sack. If you get a compression sack these get to about half that size.

99.9% chance that they do not. Typically the mummy style bags do not zip together. The ones that do are typically shaped like a perfect rectangle.

About whether or not these bags zip together, another classic question is begging to be asked: "Do you think I look fat in this sleeping bag"?

These are great for kids sleepovers. I also keep a cheap bag in the trunk as part of a safety kit also nice to slip into on a chilly evening if you are star gazing. Certainly not for serious camping-unless it is warm. Those high price bags I have are way to hot for summer camping, even on nights that get a little chillier
