Actually most of our IT department (the main one) walked out last year. I don't think it had as much to do with Active Directory as it did with HR and the IT administration group.

Most are running Windows XP. There may be some Macs (not sure what's happening on that side). The big issues will be network access to personal and shared network spaces. Then of course the password issue (always prevelant). Windows Vista is allowed on machines, but it is not supported.

Probably just this week. He gets to start Wednesday morning in the Dean's office and has to personally watch each person in the college login and make sure their network resources are accessable. Ya never know though....
